  1. We have had some good crowds this year at the G: v Richmond 63K? one of the best of all time; v Collingwood 73K? It's a bit like groundhog day seeing hawthorn players spin out of tackles and deliver lace out to their forwards season after season...
  2. Yes we have no gorilla forward to straighten us up. therefore we spend all our cash trying to set something up = turnovers. t Last three games (at least) how many times have Hawthorn mid-fielders broken away from tackles with pirouettes? we just can't lay hands on them.
  3. What still confounds me is why the greater wobblies are pushing for Tom anyway? It reeks of Sheedy and his desire to inflict damage on the Dees after being spurned for the coaching job. Why, for example didn't gws offer the huge bucks to a much higher credentialled player, did they all knock him back?
  4. Yes, and invite Collingwood to out-money us and offer a billion-squillion for Trengove.
  5. Because GWS are feeding the frenzy until they cut Tom loose. Then they will start putting out the Daisy's plucked stories.
  6. They will be managing his knee injury any second now. In fact, I think it's being managed right now.
  7. Barassi himself referred to the Scully situation earlier in the year, likening his own move in the '60's to the current day moves to make NSW a strong AFL state. He even gave a partial blessing to such a move.
  8. Well put. It is also important to acknowledge that the 'realists' on this thread are not anti-Melbourne, anti-Tom or anti-anyone-with-opposing-viewpoints. The club is bigger than the individual, and the post is bigger than the posters.
  9. It cut both ways. Ron has always said that he didn't want the perception that it was Norm Smith pulling the strings in the background if he (Barassi) coached the Demons.
  10. What the AFL have now is television money, this is not football money and its continuation cannot be guaranteed. It's like the housing market in Aus. with everyone walking round thinking they are millionaires. What we have now is several clubs - Port Adelaide, Richmond, Footscray, North Melbourne, Brisbane - millions in debt, (more so than the 80's) or with playing lists beyond the help of the compromised drafts. Whilst we have now 18 teams in a 'national' competition, in effect we have about six, with the rest just catching planes and delaying contract negotiations.
  11. One of the main reasons Barassi gave for leaving Melbourne was the perception that any success he had would be credited to Smith. Same with Malthouse and Buckley. Seems like Collingwood have made a monumental blunder with this one. On the cusp of a truly great era, they have two stalking bulls competing for the reins. If Malthouse goes back-to-back then the heat will be on Buckley next year; any failures and the critics will come out of the woodworks. Come on 'woods, do a '65! http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/malthouse-and-buckley-in-2012-cant-work/story-fn7shz1t-1226097088770
  12. Yes us greedy supporters who donate hundreds per year to follow their club. How dare they question teenage millionaires. PS I actually don't think this saga is bothering the playing group at all, this is the culture live and work in. Based on the last two games maybe the same can't be said for TS.
  13. Round 18, 2004, we got to the top of the ladder, Tiddles Ridley was saying this was the best Demons team in forty years. Went downhill after this. Melbne 15.17 def Hawthorn 9.9
  14. Gubby Allen's arrogance may come back to haunt him and he may "have to get used to it" when the tide starts rolling the other way and players want to escape his Vegas paradise in 5-6 years time.
  15. I think it was Dermot that said this morning that Stef was the most improved player in the competition.
  16. The fact that Frawley was elevated last year means he has incumbency in his favour. Selectors seem to like keeping players in once they have established their quality.
  17. The manager, Blucher has said that the decision will be made shortly after the home and aways. He has also inferred in the same interview that the decision may be based on who is coaching next season. Now everyone knows that the coaching decision would not be made that quickly (esp with MM as a possibility) so there is a lack of plain-speak here.
  18. Bruising on the knee for Scully, acc. to Channel 7.
  19. the people criticising Scully's game tonight (or last week for that matter) and his non-appearance for the song may still love the guy, they are just making an observation, and are entitled to do so. I expect him to do an air-guitar solo if we beat Hawthorn.
  20. the runner almost collided with a melbourne player on his way off the ground...
  21. "It's a great old... oops, grand old flag... PS The fade-out wasn't as bad as last time when Port nearly came over the top of us.
  22. it's quite ok to bag players like morton incessantly, but scully has a very average night and nobody is allowed to go near him! be realistic, we are allowed to say it as we see it.
  23. Scully subbed, can you believe it!
  24. tom having a shocker, i.m.o
  25. why is liam allowed to those kicks? he is regularly costing us goals.
