  1. Fair enough, it has inspired me to re-watch Buster Douglas v Mike Tyson. My father was a fight fanatic, and we grew up watching Kahu Mahunga, Bobby Dunlop, TV Ringside, Famechon, Lionel Rose etc don't even mention walking out of VFL Park in the 1970s...
  2. that goes with "putting his head over the ball", which goes with post-football brain trauma and AFL players association/NFL class action...
  3. Anytime something has to be discussed betw. management/ coach and a player they are going to "sit down and have a chat". ie they never talk standing: "I guess it all came to a head after they (the Blues) got knocked out by Sydney in the final. Andrew and Brett sat down and had a chat and both parties were pretty open to each other." (Today's Age) Also, "Front and square"
  4. Amended Press Statement (if this is true) "Grant Thomas will be the first to know, caro will be the second to know, and MFC will be third to know." On a serious note, this is a big roll of the dice by the powers that be, cos if gw (cradle) snatchers and gc sunset don't get flags with their first window the tide which comes in will surely go out, and the careerist footballers will get mopped up by free agency down the track, right back to the states they came from.
  5. Don't worry, The club will be the first to know.
  6. It's not unlike the speccy rule though. if you hold the mark you can apply as much force to a player's back as you like, if you misjudge the mark it is 'in the back'.
  7. There is growing speculation that i am sick of this issue railroading Melbourne's season: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/ward-to-keep-spot-no-matter-what/story-e6frf9io-1226086864559
  8. In Friday night'ss tackle, Trengove did not have a grip on the player's hand, allowing the player to protect his fall. The suspension tackle was more of a whiplash, far more likely to cause head damage. then again what would i know i am not the umpire's head honcho. ps trengove did a beautiful job on channel 7 just now, appoint him to the captaincy A . S . A... P....
  9. I was at the game. three hour round trip, home at 2.00am so disgusted. 1. the win/loss dynamic. we are definitely better than this. atm a win is setting us up for a loss and a loss is setting us up for a win. 2. etihad is a totally different game. in the confined spaces it's like indoor soccer. we persist with our 'mcg game' where we whip handballs around and push through like a roman legion. meanwhile footscray are laser passing over distances and using angles to their advantage. meanwhile we are gridlocked into our heritage team syndrome whereby we are periodically unveiled at the mcg (like a classic 60's Vauxhall) and periodically win for the benefit of our nostalgic masses. 3. the scully thing is corrosive, i don't care what anyone says. at least callum ward has his cards on the table. 4. if one of carlton collingwood hawthorn geelong or essendon (or swans for that matter) had the cattle we have they would be scary. 5. we have the mentality that high draft choices are automatically going to push us up the ladder. imagine colin sylvia at geelong. 6. captaincy is messing with brad green's mind, last season is messing with liam jurrah's mind. 7. scully is vastly over-rated ATM, if gw futurama want to give him $1m per annum plus page 103 in the sunday telegraph we are better off pumping funds into a similarly over-priced coach. 8. DB is a hell of a good bloke and has had a good run, it may be time to give someone else a turn. the coaching position is a cruel and unforgiving world, no harder gig in football. 9. get off cale morton's back. it's no point flagellating our non performing players we are only revealing ourselves as embittered perennial losers. 10. Sean Wight would have turned that game round in the second half.

yes, bravo the swans and i applaud them. but did they need the massive concessions thrown at the new franchises? i know this is not a black and white issue and that mistakes were made re swans, but the largesse thrown at the new 'teams' comes at the expense of the health of the overall competition.

yes i resent the national competition - in the format in which it has been introduced. Shafted = S.A, W.A and Tas. football competitions. Plastic premiership cups to Brisbane + Sydney Swans. The cynical killing off of traditional football team, Fitzroy. The destruction of state of origin football. A competition embracing the state competitions having an F.A cup play off post grand final week - like the old days - could have presented the best of both worlds. There were memorable playoffs in the 70's, check utube. also look at old sanfl and wafl finals matches on utube with the crowds, the atmosphere and excitement, ditto vfl. now we have manufactured clubs, plastic grass teams like brisbane, gcfl, greater western eagles, west coast eagles (what does that mean?). in the meantime, millions bleeding to keep these desert states allive, all in the name of warding off soccer and rugby. look at port adelaide, proud club, shafted the way it was brought in, now on a lifeline. each week we have numerous 'dead rubbers' with teams making up the numbers + boring meaningless matches. the whole thing stinks. come september we have an overcooked finals system with teams playing over and over to justify a placing they already earned in the home and aways. the system stinks.
  12. i must say, sitting through footy show and the slimy allen makes me feel like i have just reached into my wheelie bin for a fifty cent piece. what a propaganda victory for the stay-at-home footballer he is!

putting those two (G.A, K.S) in charge will be seen in years to come as a massive mis-judgement. their arrogance is exactly the last thing this demetriou-club needs to win good will. if vic. clubs and s.a can be stripped of players by gws by coin, how will gws hang on to their blossoming guns when their poaching window closes?
  14. From the Footy show, Damian Barrett: $7m over six years for TS!
  15. yes we were dead and buried in that game and he turned it around with courageous pack marks. what a hero of our club.
  16. Greg Parke was a hero of mine i was hoping someone better than Brad Miller could be slotted in at this late stage. ie Did Greg Parke have a stunnning g/f?
  17. Greg Parke used to take huge pack marks, Brad Miller can't do that.
  18. Hey, I was at that game too! v South Melbourne? We used to walk from Springvale and often crawled under the cyclone fence to get in. Tilbrook charged in for his first possession and the ball bounced awkwardly over him... embarrassing start, but was a beautiful kick.
  19. The real question is, who is the better out of Jack Watts and Bernard Tomic.
  20. Grant Thomas' opinioni was VERY soft and had nothing to back it up, nor was he prepared to argue in favour of it. Just a gut feeling in other words.
  21. They asked shwarta on Sunday Channel 7 if he wanted to say any more about Scully and he replied, "nuh", and they moved on. I think I have already said this but feel like repeating it.
  22. my brother used to say, "had of". I wish I had of whacked him.
  23. Nicholson is the match for Jackson, Diamond Jim Tilbrook for Tapscott (apologies to Luke!)
  24. HOA = heads of agreement, who is the other head, Tom?
  25. Barassi - Colin Sylvia: 1. longs arms, big reach in packs excellent overhead, plays tall, loves to run with the ball. Kicks match-winning goals. Ricky Jackson - Nicholson. Nippy, breaks the lines with kamikaze runs.
