glad you qualified it with 'touches'. -

He was referred to in the media as a 'boom recruit', (from a friend's scrapbook) i just mixed him up with Burston. too young and too long ago! alright wj, what's your files say on vearing, catlin and dowsing, and ricky gervais wants to know whether you can throw a shoe over a house. -
just quietly, how many Brownlow votes did TS add to his CV in his two event-filled years with the Dees?

Maybe the 'boom recruit' ref. was attributed to Hugh Bromell. -

George Lakes got front page on a new football publication about '69 and got favourable reviews as our new recruit. Spoke with former demon Neville Stone last year about it, said, from memory that he got a bad leg injury and that finished him. -
look if he memorises everyone of kev's premierships they will get on fine.

Ed Burston was slightly before my time but I used to always see him referred to as 'the boom recruit' around the time Barassi defected. i think he may have broken his leg. -
Ed Burston, George Lakes, Tom Scully, Kelvin Templeton and John Tilbrook. Good on the guy, whatever happens now, he has made it in life. Money buys just about everything. Having watched him last two years it is plain enough that he possesses nothing freakish at the highest level with kicks and handballs frequently ending in turnovers. Good on the MFC, we have signed everyone else and can now hope for a revivalist coach and a big attack on 2012. Possible apologies to most of the above who either had chronic injuries, broke down over a chronic injury or changed clubs with a chronic injury.

Thomas the tank engine pulls in to Sydney Central. Who paid his wages in the second half season when he couldn't get a kick? Barely showed enough to warrant selection, let alone what the afl is paying him to play for the annoying mr. oranges.

You should send your comments into The Age, Letters, it is that good. Unfortunately for us Demon supporters we are having to eat Norm Smith's legendary humble pie and suffer its bitter taste, again.

could someone enlighten me as to the origins of the melbourne storm team? are they a team of tom scullys and gary abletts? are there any victorians, or are they essentially tran$planted northener$?
-
c'mon tom, overly drawn-out departure. we want to get our club back in the game. we got five million off our back, you got six million in your back pocket.

didn't mind it in '56, '60 and '64!

yes, i will "plus one" that one. another one is where posters "really rate" a player, as though their opinion has some kind of official status, or any status.

Graham Chapman: I think all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. All: Yes, yes... Graham Chapman: I'm certainly not! And I'm sick and tired of being told that I am. Not Sure?: Mrs. Havoc-Jones. Mrs. Havoc-Jones: Well, I meet a lot of people and I'm convinced that the vast majority of wrongthinking people are right. Not Sure?: There seems like a consensus there. Could we have the next question, please? Woman: I would like to ask the team what changes they would make if they were Hitler? Graham Chapman: Well, speaking personally, I would annex the Sudetenland. Not Sure?: Norman? Norman: I think I'd pay some Dutchmen to set fire to Lord Snowdon.

concur with above comments about 1976. i was at that game and the dees were on a huge roll, bad luck we didn't make the finals would have won a game or more i'm sure, just like '87. also disagree about '65 and '67. we won 10 out of 18 that year and many losses were by small margins. in '67 we climbed back up the ladder after a disastrous '66, think we fnished 7th. having re-read the above it is all a bit depressing.

"Taking him on his word" must be the new afl buzz-words: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/the-trouble-with-ross-lyon-20110906-1jvy6.html Ross Lyon's statements about his coaching position sound totally unconvincing; I think he is on his way to the Mighty Demons.

Anyone who follows "English" soccer will know that massive transfer$ is all that is talked about. This is where Australian Fox Rules Football is heading, the Scully thing is the preamble. IN coming years the mighty dees will have to fend off their prime players from all and sundry, notably the top four or five clubs. Expecting to win a premiership under this regime is fanciful, all we can hope for in this brave new world is occasional bottom eight appearances. if we get to the bottom eight, then we can dream. having said that, i am optimistic about our rising up the table, we just have to hang tough. it is not like the 90's, when fitzroy were destroyed by the afl and players defectd. there is a safety net (national draft, salary cap) which ensures confidence in the club sufficient to maintain sponsorships and signings. the fact that most of our playing group is happy to re-sign amidst the gloom of our rotten 13th placement is enough reason for supporters to maintain faith and renew memberships. when tom makes his teary gws speech on thursday we should contact the club and renew memberships. after all it is not the first time no 31 has been torn off kids backs.

Looking through rose coloured glasses at our season
bush demon replied to Bobby McKenzie's topic in Melbourne Demons
This little clutch of years (2007-2010) returns us to the badlands of 1965-1986. At least up until recently we wouldn't go more than three years without making the finals and giving our supporters hope. We haven't recovered from the retirement of David Neitz, having no gorilla forward to channel our mids. Now we have 'system failure' where blokes chase kicks and results are based on individual effort. With most of the other teams, esp. the higher ones you can almost see a hidden hand directing movement on the playing field. with us it is just kick and hope. Having followed Melbourne this long I am happy to say that my support is in no way diminished and I will renew membership again for 2012. -
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - 2011 Season Wrap Edition
bush demon replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
he looks tortured lining up the goals, like he is carrying the weight of the world. -
as a veteran aussie rules fanatic i would say 'nfl' or gridiron in the old money is a dementia-inducing, brain-wasting waste of time. there, i've started a nice little fireside chat now that the demons fell short for my 48th year of supportership. as for cricket, give me two hours of 1 for 45 any day of the week.

urgent update, james strauss reckons he will stay. (from the telly)

i just fed this into the Langley supercomputer, and you have omitted Norm Smith's six premierships.
