Barassi Way
The local council, (supported by a mix of federal and state funding) could also consider an underground off-ramp, allowing commuters an express alternative access to Princes Park. It may take years to reach fruition, but could definitely be done in the dead of night.

Next Captain? (in a few years)
He would have ground control sorted out.

Barassi Way
For example, Punt Road could be renamed "The Bill Lawry Drive".

From the vault
Amazing. I still remember all the coodabeen champions Norm Smith had amassed at the start of '66 season who were going to bring the Dees back to glory, inc. Sid Catlin, Ed Burston, Kerry Rattray, Vearing, Ken Jungwirth. Alas, decades of despair were to follow!

What We Are Competing Against
I did a quick AI search on 'minnows', and I believe this description may be apt: A minnow is a small, freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprinidae family, often used as bait and known for schooling behavior in rivers, lakes, and streams. Typically under 4 inches long, these fish feed on insects and crustaceans. They are not a single species, but a broad group of over 3,000 species related to carp and goldfish. That's not to say we can't do good things this year, or into the future. But when we look at the investment portfolios of even the straggler interstate combos we can see what we are up against: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/this-afl-club-was-described-as-a-carcass-now-it-s-investing-millions-to-build-a-new-suburb-and-secure-its-future-20260224-p5o4x4.html

POSTGAME: Practice Match vs North Melbourne
It was unnecessary what he did. Come on AFL, protect the head.

Farewell James Harmes
I liken James Harmes' clever gather and lace-out to Fritsch a bit like the end of the '64 grand final, which had become a rolling maul by the last quarter, when Barry Bourke got on the end of some quick hands by Townsend and Barassi. The ball then went coast to coast, and although Hassa missed the sitter, the ball would rebound to Crompton and the rest was history.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 4th February 2026
Achilles Jones ("And The Big Men Fly") at Springvale High School seems such a long time ago now. That's how long it has taken my achilles to heel.

I have a distinct feeling that Frosty Miller trialled for The Dees around this time.

State of Origin is Back
Big V v Sandgropers, what's not to like. This was always footy played at its highest standard, a world above 'catchy', AKA rugby.
-
Hassa Mann
This is a truly legendary post. Hassa Mann was The Man after Barassi left the club.
-
Hassa Mann
Well we probably would have pulled our finger out against Footscray, in that case.
-
What Now?
The magic of two "bros" working together in the forward lines adds a little magic to the mix. Brodie Mihocek may get that silver service after all.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Well spoken. Ie Greg Williams, a famous dawdler from the past. If you do happen to be a bit slow opening the jam jar, a set of beady eyes and bullet hand passing are essentials ..

Big Cox
"Good fit" should be banned from reputable journalistic organs. Unless, of course there is somewhere it can fit.

Tassie Devils Possible Extinction
This is another bread and circuses fiasco. Meanwhile, crackheads and kitchen weaponry starting up a breakaway competition.

State of Origin is Back
Early re-union of the/Melbourne midfield.

Farewell Christian Petracca
BTW the way, l wish him well but he is definitely a different version to '21. It was on the news.
-
Farewell Christian Petracca
After seeing him kitted out today in Sergio Silvagni's old shorts l think he could now fairly be labelled "Traccta".
-
Farewell Christian Petracca
So many parallels with Barassi, who left without saying goodbye. Fortunately it only took 57 years to snag our next flag.
-
Bailey Humphrey
It's a load dice to get the rugby states on the mcg in September.
-
Bailey Humphrey
Nah.... The '21 flag was sublime, especially the part after Bontempelli's victory goal. There is no entitlement to follow-up premierships, just ask StKilda. We are living in times where AFL head office are trying to force-feed a flag into franchise rugby states. At least there is the fig-leaf of compensation, not like the old days when Barassi, Alves, Wells, Keenan etc could just walk out the door.
