  1. On second thoughts, the 1970 Aussie tourists should be awarded a National Street parade. Well done, Ian Redpath, Paul Sheahan, Douggie Walters, Garth, you wouldn't have laid down like these professional hamsters.
  2. Slightly off-topic here Chook but does that Pollos thing have anything to do with the Breaking Bad series or is that just a bird-like reference?
  3. I don't know why, but Australia's cricket fortunes really affect me, so much that I can't sleep when the pathetic "9/21" is broadcast into the ether in the early hours of the morning, the on-going management of the flannelised sportsmen has been ludicrous and unaccountable for years now. The ongoing debacle of selection decisions read Andrew Hilditch, and the wax-like preservation of non-performers, read Ponting, mitchell sling em anywhere Johnson and not-to-mention Phillip Hughes incredulous promotion over Katich (who should forthwith receive a Federal Government Apology for all preceding dummy-spitting and tantrums. mighty demons, you are now officially forgiven for your kardinia park transgressions in season 2011, these aussie cricketers and their minders have cast you as true australian sporting heroes forevermore.
  4. love the axe dragging debauchery of Breaking Bad,,,, that show freaks me out totally, i love the characters and storyline, though i feel Season 4 is being stretched out a bit and that Skyla's character sometimes unconvincing. am currently stranded on episode 6. the hank / walt thing is the big teaser.
  5. We got into the ground a few minutes late and Dees already had 7 goals on the board. Amazing stuff.
  6. The first game I can remember was the match highlights of Melbourne v Richmond when World Of Sport replayed Barassi allegedly hitting Roger Dean prior to the '63 finals, resulting in a costly four week suspension. I can also remember a snippet of a Melbourne player, John Lord I think, handballing over a Magpie player's head to a team-mate in the goal square who popped it through in the '64 second semi. The first game I went to was in 1970 (Form One) when we caught the Springvale- Richmond train in to the G. Used to love that train trip. We would make up games like taking turns to remember cigarette brands, or cars . The game would start with a tin of koolmints and the last quarter of the reserves. Parke and Dillon were my early legends. League Teams on Thu. night on the radio was always a highlight with the teams being read out, "Alves, Wells, Clarke" etc
  7. Yes but we would have taken the last round game against Footscray more seriously if this were the situation.
  8. 'Arm' wasn't it, because the other one had been re-arranged by dipper.
  9. Hassa Mann's shocker post-Gabbo run in the 1964 Grand Final (from directly in front) which could have put us back in front with a few minutes remaining. We finally strung some 'beautiful football' together courtesy Barassi and Bourke only to see Hassa miss. Fortunately Neil Crompton stepped into history shortly after.
  10. Think he was a magnificent drop-kick from memory. Thought that team would do better than they did ie Biffen, Dillon, Parke, Alves...
  11. Confucious say, "The seagull follow the chip".
  12. I hope your not referring to "Breaking Bad", currently in 4th season (USA) and a year behind here. Hopefully next season will be better.
  13. http://www.heraldsun...f-1226176663053 described by the HS sports writer as a 'marquee match'. This blockbuster will be lucky to get 12,000. Whoops, "2012".
  14. Robert Campbell was on that 6.00pm post-game show on ABC 774 mid-season and sounded like one top bloke; he painted a great picture of the club. This was around the time when some mal-contents were saying that Tom Sipper was leaving the club because of its poor culture. Best wishes to RC if he is moved on.
  15. Clark to Melbourne: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/melbourne-demons/surprise-as-clark-takes-up-demon-offer-20111015-1lqxx.html
  16. i too wouuld love aussie rules (not 'afl') to conquer the unruly rugby boguns as much as the next person, but the afl's nose must be bloodied on this one. they wipe their feet on the tassie welcome mat and trash south australian football, two homes of football if ever there were. they create a tailor-made tv market for select victorian teams and they kill off two victorian teams. what happened to fitzroy was unforgivable. we now have an ugly 18 team mongrel which is only propped up by the good times of the australian economy and the white shoe brigade which runs the competition.
  17. 'Our' Tom will be on the extended interchange bench at that rate.
  18. http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/articles/2011/09/30/brown-could-coach-at-melbourne/
  19. Maybe it's the boorish attitude of many Collwd supporters that should be called to account, especially the booing of Geelong (Hawkins?) when the players were on the dais. That was very very poor and reflects badly on Australian sporting culture.
  20. how much the cost of the buckley/ malthouse fiasco? the coming weeks and possible recriminations will be interesting. collingwood, esp. eddie got ahead of themselves.
  21. Couldn't watch it after woeful beginning. Why can't the indigenous code have an Australian musician/s.
  22. Burgin didn't mention this one: 7 Grand Finals betw. Melbourne and Collingwood, all except 1958 play-off won by Dees. 1926 Win 1939 Win 1955 Win 1956 Win 1958 Loss. 1960 Win 1964 Win
  23. The holy trinity: 1. Gary's 'shopfront' role on the Footy Show; 2. Gary's on-going role reviving the club as MFC's "No.2"; 3. Gary continuing to maintain that he doesn't want the job on a long-term basis.
  24. "Maloney"? Baloney.
  25. Perhaps this has been mentioned already, but Jack Grimes' leadership award at the B & F raises questions about the on-field brigade, esp. the captain. Having said that, Green has been courageous with the Dees, often having to punch way above his weight. Is there a better contested pack-marker on our forward line? Not at present.
