I'm warming to him a lot. Crazy high agility level and one of those 'fight in the dog' little players. Work rate and defensive pressure sound amazing. I haven't seen a lot of his field kicking ie. the 20-30m passes into 50 but it generally looks good. Most small forwards are tied to clubs so I wouldn't be surprised if he surges up the order. My doubts are his size - 178cm and does look slightly built and I guess as a result of that accumulation - will he get the ball enough to make serious impact? There's a few good examples of small forwards with this stature succeeding lately but we do see a lot of them get on the AFL park and struggle to get higher than 5 possessions a game. If that were the case, he'd want to be nailing every chance and half chance he gets. I'm sorry but from a family of architects and designers it's hardwired to think critically. 38 goals from a kid who isn't even a stay at home forward is damn impressive though, could even make a great tag team with Kozzie rotating through the middle. All for him.

Well he's just not going to have that kind of time with the ball in his hands at senior level. So adjustments will be needed. I think he's got tremendous upside and he seems to be able to hit targets on the run very well. He does seem like a bit of an energizer bunny though and I'd wonder if he is able to go into slow composed mode when needed. Other than that I'd be excited to land him but I agree he'd need some work.

Welcome to Demonland: Xavier Taylor
Would not pass on him if available, I just don't see it. True competitor.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
A lot of people have also completely forgotten that he was at the peak of his powers before the injury and likely heading to another AA guernsey. That night against Carlton where he almost single handedly pulled us back from the death and kicked 5 goals was for me possibly his finest hour. Yet 2024 is now just written off as a bad year for Trac. I supported the decision to part ways but we shouldn't pretend like this transition will be easy.

I'd be good with Taylor. We get so bogged down in drafts about skill, pace, running ability etc. It's never glamourous to talk about a defence first guy but we've needed one for a while. Lindsay would open up the ground with skill and Taylor can carry and draw defenders to him before getting handball off. Bit of a lightening and thunder duo (even though that doesn't make sense).

Josh Lindsay not might be, he is the best kick in the draft.

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
And this is the thing. I remember at the time people asking if we really would have been happy to hang onto the win or even the draw considering the drop off was the real problem. Of course I agree, it would have been a garbage win but I do think in this particular case scraping through for the win would have been infinitly better than the result we got. The difference between a poor last quarter win and now being the butt of every joke imaginable is wide. People were talking about this for weeks after, the moment a team trailing by 40 points in the last quarter kicked a few goals this game got a mention and will continue to into next season. Avoiding defeat was very much preferable and a rare time where you couldn't take use what-about-ery or we didnt deserve to win-ery to make yourself feel better. We needed to hang on at all costs. As quickly as I felt Max's goal after the siren (after our own comeback) lept us out of mediocreville, this game brought us back there. If we hang on to win this, the Wanganeen-Milera debacle on Browlow night isnt even a thing either. At least it got him his pay day.

Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
Excellent article. Personally I got a lot more out of this than the letter the other day. That was some up front and transparent leadership communication. I was pleased to hear more about the dialogue with Steven May and I think this is exactly how this kind of scenario should go. He has been told he probably won't feature in King's plans so his job is now to get back, train his backside off, set a good example for the youngsters and force the coach to change his mind. If your form is good it doesn't matter what your age is.

Farewell Clayton Oliver
I care to the point that it will show the world that it wasn't simply an MFC problem. Most of the media lauded the trade for GWS claiming it a 'bargain' and reeling off his past accolades. I don't mind people waking up and starting to see why the price to get him was so cheap. Is this the ready made midfielder that can take you to the next level or is there much more of a project required to get that desired result? While we're at it, let's not forget that this Giants team hasn't achieved the ultimate success yet. With an acquisition like Oliver, you would be hoping for someone bringing intellectual capital and know-how. The benefits could be amazing but it isn't going to be plug and play.

RIP Amber Whalan
Tragic news. My heart goes out to those 3 kids, I can't even begin to understand. A family member is dealing with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma right now. Treatment is going as planned for now but still very hard to wrap your head around. If there is any sort of page where we can make show support in way of a contribution I'd be keen to know.

Congrats on the result @roy11, they dug in and deserved their victory. League positions and form lines just don't mean much when it comes to Liverpool v United.

Farewell Clayton Oliver
Is he still going to America? Considering how tough it is for anyone to get in there right now I wonder how he'll go.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
He hasn't been a problem child his whole career. He'll be fine. Beggars can't be choosers, if we want to take the arrogant approach then sure play him at Casey all year. Otherwise we might as well give him a shot.
