3 shots on goal out on the full in the last. We lost due to player stupidity.
-
A completely ineffective forward line v a very efficient forward line. We are cooked
-
They want it more, the ball just comes straight out of our forwardline with no pressure
-
Spargo more if it does rain and we are struggling to mark the footy up forward. He is clean and skilful the type of player you need in the wet
-
Good call Tommy in, I reckon Spargo will be the Sub. Start with 3 tall forwards, Smith can go back if Turner struggles. Wouldn't surprise me if Hibberd took Turners spot
-
For clubs outside of Qld and NSW, NGA is a complete waste of time. Clubs in other states did but some effort in prior to the rules being changed, now it is a couple of training runs not much more. Lucky for us we have a father son in the GCS academy, hopefully they are developing him for the 2025 draft.
-
I hope it isn't an ACL and wish him well. On the flip side I don't think having him and Fritsch in same forward line works.
-
The issue isn't Grundy or Max. We need that mobile CHF hitting up at the ball, a B Brown hitting up from deep inside 50m then the resting ruck is your third tall forward closer to goal from the long dump kick. Issue is, TMac has been injured again, B Brown being asked to play way to high and JVR still learning leaning his craft. Grundy nor Max are key forwards, neither was Luke Jackson but as third option tall forward they will be effective as long as we get the right structure around them. We also need to note that both aren't young anymore there will be a lot of games where one isn't available or managed.

2023 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The clubs aren't going to let GC walk away with their Academy players and another top 6 pick. I don't think the club will go after the no 1 pick, we have options to do so if they want to but I reckon we would be happy with 2 top 10 picks plus Brown later in the draft -
2023 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pick 15 and 24 straight to Gold Coast for pick 6, then decide whether pick 5 and 6 go to West Coast for 1 and 19, add in second round pick as well. Gold Coast needs points not early picks. Pick 1, 19 and Brown be a pretty good get -
It is the same problem we have had for many years, we can't kick. We play a game style that suits our players skill level. Put the ball long to a contest get numbers to the contest win the ball with numbers. Issue is every team knows where we are kicking the footy, they are getting numbers to the contest. We are predictable and unfortunately don't have enough players that can hit that low hard 30 to 35m kick to a dangerous lead or into the middle of the ground.
-
You can't have B Brown and the resting ruck in same forward line. Our small forwards work so high up the ground that they can't get back at the feet of our forwards. Pickett is looking for easy goals out the back. I would give Grundy a spell this week, bring in JVR, have Brown, Smith, JVR. Bring in Laurie or debut Sestan.

Choco Williams is the New Goal Kicking Coach
drdrake replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
His ball drop last year was terrible, so high and the more stressed he got about missing he tensed up and just shanked it. He focused so hard that it actually made his ball drop higher and worse. Sometimes you need to stop tinkering and let it flow. If Oliver and Petracca kick 35 goals, don't worry about brownlow, we are walking away with premiership -
Choco Williams is the New Goal Kicking Coach

You cant compare the game back 20 to 30 years. Plugger, Lyon, Dunstall may at tops had to compete with 1 player and maybe some one sitting in the hole in from of them. I would dare to say they had a lot more shots from 35m out directly in front or on a slight angle. I'm not overly concerned about our set shots, outside Petracca. Our field kicking is our biggest issue, we couldn't hit targets which lead to a no risk down the line and then long bomb to a pocket. Safe football worse case we force a stoppage and set up again. Boring predictable football, the which the cause of the straight sets exit. Hopefully, we get confidence in our kicking to go back to taking risks, that was the difference from 21 to 22, not goal kicking -
With the new Sub rule, I think we might start tall, 2 key forwards plus resting ruck, then Fritsch, Kosi, high small forward mid role. Have a small mid size as your sub
-
I think a few a discounting B Brown, terrible year last year but was asked to play a role that he struggled with. Bring in another tall to do the work further up the ground and get him back closer to goal and he is still capable of kicking 40 plus goals for a season
-
Add in FS selection that will most likely fall outside our first 4 picks, we have a strong hand to trade and draft
-
If Schache starts round 1 we are in serious injury trouble for the start of the season. Same with Melksham.

No question he made his mind up at some stage through the year. I don't think he was every coached to leave, in fact he was given a lot more ruck time in the back half of the year. Max was injured and struggled after queens birthday, Luke was having little impact as a forward mainly due to Tmac being injured and B Brown completely out of form, Luke couldn't be that third tall option. With Grundy and Max, I think the club is thinking we might only get 15 games home and away where they both play, we can rest one knowing the other can have the same impact. We can manage the 2 to ensure they are flying together for finals, I reckon that was the reference to Geelong, player management.

Ben Cousins lands coaching role at Demons
drdrake replied to Rodney (Balls) Grinter's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Perth Demons story is very similar to the Melbourne Demons. A once powerful club, that completely lost its way and has continue to do so since the mid 70s. This is either going to go completely pear shaped or make the club half relevant again. The club has always found a way to lose its way. There board looks to be very strong now, a few ex players, would be worried about CEO though -
You are now seeing girls drafted that have played juniors for a number of years, been in u18 programs, they are conditoned to play football at this level. They have been doing knee programs like netball and basketball to strenghten muscle to support the knee. The game itself isn't like it was for the first few years, it was like the players went extra hard to prove they can play the game, now we are seeing more skillful players and very Athletic.

I think it is Available but geelong don't want to play there until the stands completed, more money more money, that is what fixture is all about.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pretty handy year to hold 4 picks in the top 36 and a father son that we mostly likely fall after that. From memory Yze and White sons will be 2024 eligible. Gives us real opportunity at trade time and drafting to create a real long period of success. -
I know media is all about content and filling the paper each day but these assessments on clubs drafting these young players mean little. Walking away with Grundy and Hunter plus adding the others around the fringe, then add in the 2 kpp, the 2 rucks and the unknown forward mid, plus having 4 picks in the first 36 in the 2023 draft and really only losing Jackson we have done pretty well.

Get in front of Geelong, steal the player they want.
