SEN now
There seems to be an industry gaining momentum "Old players suffering deprivation syndrome "so they join the media : Lloyd, Cornes, Newman , McClure . Some of these people forget that they were lucky to be born with a lot of physical attributes. However that does not neccessarily translate to mental ability. Give me the Coodabeens ant day of the week. (Or the Front Bar)

Farewell Mitch Hannan
Daisy is right again ,still . Have to agree with the analysis of Footscray's game style. It also makes our victory against Richmond so good, because at the 15m mark of 1st Q I thought we were going to get slogged all over the park. I think I can wear all the "........but its Melbourne: after our win over Richmond. (Having said that ,the "Toiges " really bared their teeth on Friday night.)

Is Gawn the best player we have ever had?
I was very young when I saw Barrassi play thought it was a real highlight). Loved Robbie Flower ( he was the reason to come to the footy) . Stynes was what Jackson could become. Gary Lyon was "special" . Gawny is unique and would seriously have dominated older ruckamn ,mainly because he is about a foot taller and more mobile so in that category he has got to be up there.

Chunky
I am absolutely disgusted at this thread. If anybody apart from Robby Flower deserved to play his 300 th game it is this bloke. And the reward he gets from it is slagging of the first order. Can we please enjoy the moment !!!

Farewell Oscar McDonald
Some people simply cannot let the bloke leave the Club gracefully, because he didn't bucket the Club in his interview. However some simply have to have a cheap shot at the bloke as he leaves the building. So what,if he has limited ability. He was draft pick 51 so knew he had to work his bum off to at least play a few games. Credit to his attitude and efforts !!!!!!

TMac on the Trade Table?
TMAc could provide the ideal Big Man Interchange package. He has experience at both ends of the ground. Remember he was touted as a possible AA at one stage, then went as a FWD , but has been injured the last year and a half. Prior to his injury he was THE endurance athlete of the club. SO !!!!!! he is big enough and strong enough and quick to cause some damage coming down the ground. OH... by the way he is a very good lead and a good overhead competitive mark. I am really looking forward to TMac's 3rd coming. This forum seems to give everyone a chance as long as his name does not start with McD...

The Paddy Dangerfield Thread
Think I would take Dusty first. Even the coaches would be frightened by his presence. However there is a bloke who might fit into our side Black hair , around 188cm , reasonably strong. Has improved markedly in the last two years. Equal 3rd in Brownlow . Think I would go for him , would not impact our salary cap either.

Agree wholeheartedly with Ungarie Boy. Some Posters : Use possessions as their criteria under rate the opponents especially for the defenders , do not take into account what /and how the ball is coming down to your zone/opponent. So many people have criticised OMac for Membrey's mark . There was nothing he/or 90% of AFL defenders could have done. Once a bloke gets 3 yards in front and the ball is delivered in the right place all you can do is hope !! A lot of criticism of players really does go beyond the pale. They are all young men with different attributes who are playing their hardest. That does not mean they are insipid/mentally retarded/ absolute S#$$$@ etc whic is routinely leveled via some contributors. The Mc Donalds ( and I am not related or have met them) were both No 51 draft picks , and neither came to the club with reputations like TRac, Clarrie etc so they have been very good team players for MFC . They have been a credit to have played as much AFL as they have and would not have done it without massive personal efforts. So....lay off the personal insults !!!

Pretty hard to be contributor when you are injured. Be fair !!!!

Tom McDonald
Remember that the DKF idea came BEFORE he di hid foot. Let us see if he can rewsume at his previous level, because he was our best endurance athlete up until his foot injury. I AM SURE he would not like how he is palying this year, because he has been a VG player for us until trhis.

ANB is a lock because he brings fwd pressure and pretty good delivery. Probably Hrmes in to provide some vigour.

Brayshaw Out for Rest of 2020
Whilst people are entitled to make comments, I do not feel some of the comments made here provide any positive for MFC and its injured players. They are not pieces of meat as some people intimate. Too often the news of a serious injury is treated as " big benefit to the Club"or "this will affect our trading" So it might be a time to reflect on the tone of some comments. Angus is a positive player for the Club and deserves to be treated as such.

My 3 word player analysis V Fremantle
Brayshaw and Harmes : did not turn up. Oliver & Viney : too many ineffective stats Trac : trying too hard. OMac: allowed Walters too much latitude. TMac: missed the plane.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
GAry Lyon was very constructive tonight (and hurting) . He summed it up that we have a very strong midfield group who try (possibly) too hard and as a result dor not play as a team. Hark back to 2018 when Brayshaw was part of that group and was being used better the team played better because the ball was moving, not going around in circles. The three games that we won and until he did his ankle Gus was getting to his better level and the team was performing a lot more cohesively. Look I think Clarrie & Jack are sensational players, but they must bring players into the game. I also think that Trac has to tighten up his decision making and he will be a super, super star. This year has been his standout. Our forward line has got to be more flexible. Again back to 2018 , Hogan and Mc Donald & then Weideman were felxible and provided targets. At the moment we are looking for Weid to be the main man and when he is covered we are not being as hungray on the ground to get results. Again , play Jack as a small fwd and see what difference the contestability is up there. Disappointed and I will scream if Scotrump comes out tomorrow and blames Melbourne for the mess we are in again !!!

The Best Midfield in the AFL ???
I would seriously question your statement that Brayshaw is a shocking disposal. He, out of all our midfielders is the bloke who creates going fwd . If he gains the ball between HB & HF we score. (BIt rough on last night he only had 68% plus injury) Even last night at one stage GUs was in the middle of the ground by himself and the ball was taken at HB and he was ignored for a big hooray punt !!! Says it all. Our defence look for Salem ,but ignore our midfielders who are moving. Last night we had Max have 37 hitouts, but got beaten in clearances ... WHY !!!! As soon as the pressure goes on our blokes seem to lose confidence in each other and try to do the job themselves. Got to admire their efforts, but not their execution. Libba showed us a couple of weeks ago , how clearing the area is terrific for the team and enables the ball movement to flow. Viney's effort is never in doubt, but is a "ballhog"Oliver and Petracca hade DE over around 50% which means they lose the ball without advantage to the team too often. Look at how Oliver set the game alight last week by RUNNING out of congestion . That is what we need.

CHANGES: Rd 15 vs Sydney
Delicious 89 posted. OMAC - just doesnt have any enthusiasm or drive to be out there always losing his man like with Membrey late in the game So under this analogy we drop someone who had our second highest 1% and a reasonable number of possessions for a defender purely because a fwd got a 2 yard break and the ball delivered to him on a platter. As I have mentioned on another post. OMac could have 20 possessions, 10 marks and 10 spoils and still not meet the criteria of some people purely because he is OMac ,the team player. May & Lever are a lot mor comfortable with him in the side. So on that basis we get rid of May because he got outmarked by Marshall twice late in the game. !!!!

CHANGES: Rd 15 vs Sydney
I actually think that Spargo has more substance at the moment than Kozzie (who will be very good) Spargo is only 20 ,in his 3rd season AND HIS TACKLES STICK which creates forward pressure. I also think Wagner was good after a nervous start. Has pace and is a great team person . Presents. We are obsessed with stats and get excited about 25 possessions. However there are people in the team who "run with" and provide "the get out of strife" option. These roles do not have high stats ,but are integral to the team performance. I remember Roos saying one night that Jeremy Howe played the best 1 possession half he had seen . Richmond have it imbued into them .

CHANGES: Rd 15 vs Sydney
Obviously unless you are getting 45 possessions and taking 12 uncontested marks, they are no good. Last night showed that a lot of players did not get high possessions, but a hell of a lot did the team thing. We are in the position that if May, Gawn, Petracca, Oliver and Brayshaw /Viney dominate the rest can really play a team game. Their role is to not lose control (which does not show up on the stats sheet.)
