  1. OMac is never going to gain Brownlow Votes. That is not his role. But he was pretty good again tonight in his role.I would not say their big forwards were dominating tonight so credit is due.
  2. Why are our ratings always so negative ?? We were playing a top side tonight and with reasonable kicking at goal we would have won !!!!
  3. TMac back to provide a mobile big man around the ground to take some predictability off Max (who is doing a great job) Jackson was great in first half, but I think a young player would find it hard to back up after a 4 day break. Having said that , just like we have a million inside mids we seem to have a lot of medium fwds in Hannan, Melsham and Fritsch. SO maybe one of them may be rested. Unfortunately I feel Nev Jetta is struggling with pace of the game at the moment, Lockart was good tonight so maybe Rivers gets another go.
  4. At one stage tonight the commentators remarked how difficult the role of wingman is in modern football . ( at the time he was referring to Robinson and Langford( who both came into the game later on) If the ball is going through the other side of the ground the Wingmansrole is to cut off the switch (even by just being in position. No stats there though !! SO maybe Gus is playing a low possession role for the benefit of the team.
  5. Unfortunately Oliver, Petracca and Viney crowd out any other midfielders because they are possession beasts. Angus has obviously been required to take another role . Being an outside mid tonight for us , you were on a hiding to nothing, because their midfield clearances negated his opportunities. MAybe a little more flexibility from our ruckman (who is terrific ) would enable us to go over their midfielders heads and bring the outside mids into play more.
  6. Please get your facts right. Brayshaws disposal was no worse than some others. He is the player who sees options and creates option. (no player has 100% DE especially when he is trying to take the game on rather than playing conservative football). He has ability to dispose on both sides of his body which is a rare skill in today's football. He is also a very competitive midfielder. Viney's disposal often leaves us exposed, but he brings other aspects to the table. Pickett only had 6 disposals today and no tackles yet some are lauding him . I think he was good also and once he learns to tackle he will be bloody brilliant. No player is perfect.
  7. I have been a fan of this unsung team player, so well done. Some people are starting to appreciate that it takes the :"role" players to make the TEAM successful
  8. "Brayshaw didn't get a lot of it but again did his job, what I like about him is when in the centre bounces he knows how to spread and create space. He's knows how to get a clean clearance from the middle. I was looking for all that dejected, head down stuff that I read and saw none of it. He can do more but sometimes when Trac, Oliver and Viney are getting a lot of it there's not as much to go around. " Petracca (bless him ) had a funny night Disposal efficiency wise, but has been our most effective player under 200cm. Exactly , the problem is with our most prolific ballgetters is they do not spread which utilises Brayshaw. He cannot be expected to put another ball grabber in the midst of things. Once we get back to distributing the ball away from the stoppage, we will be firing. OMac does his job in a low key way so it was good to see positives from people.. Not everyone gets 25 possessions etc. Can you name the whole of RIchmond's 2 premiership sides or Hawthorns/BL . No, because there were a lot of role/team players.
  9. Until we deliver the ball properly into the forward line (and get it working properly), we could get Tony Lockert , Jason Gunstall, Gordon COventry & Jack Mueller AND Neita and we would still not win !!!
  10. You could get John Coleman back and he would even struggle the way the ball is delivered into the scoring zone.
  11. " " 1. Gawn comprehensively beat both Richmond rucks. There was no "break even". 2. No, I'm not Simon. 3. Go back and watch the game again. You'll see a goal where Gawn got the ball to Melksham which ended up in a goal (city end). Was a decent kick too. 4. Check the Age player of the year totals. Gawn is on 22 votes from 4 games (all the others in the top group have played 5). He has the 6th highest total with one game less. Goldstein is on 29 and Lachie Neale is the runaway leader. 5. Most unbiased observers believe Gawn is having another good year. 6. I respect your opinion even though I disagree with it. On the basis of this we should be trading him because some people want to trade players the minute they make a mistake . On another thread, Brayshaw, McDonald etc are all up for trade. Seriously when are we goin to let up on the players. Their Efforts have been good, it is just the execution !!!! plus Gawn , Brayshaw and McDonald are the least of our worries. I can think of a couple of players whose mind goes in reverse when they have the ball (i.e. Viney & Clarrie) . Melsham has his capabilities and aspirations mixed up and Lever still thinks it is pre season. Hannan , Hibberd and May showed good stuff yesterday and Fritta was good once he got on his bike. But it would nice if we had a 196cm fwd as well as Tmac. ( Do we know where there is one .......Weiemann.,Jackson ???
  12. MUch to some people's joy , it seems it is too late to trade Angus Brayshaw. He has gone already (that is probably why he was "missing"(according to some people yesterday. He was busy poling votes for Dockers in their win against Crows ( The Age). Do not know how he got back to MCG so quickly from Adelaide.
  13. Wonder if Angus Brayshaw is going up there or is in Perth. According to the Age today he polled voted in the Crows vs Dockers game.
  14. Viney/Oliver/Melsham/Tomlinson/Langdon : Disposal issues Brayshaw : needs game time ( the reson he goes missing is because he is sitting on bench !!) Small Fwd Line : Not working because of point 1 Decision making : non existaent Hibberd : I will eat my words -great effort game TMac : See point 1 ----moved well Hannan : was good breaks lines Pickert/Lockart : Overwhelmed but promising Weid/ OMac/ Jetta/ Jones : Missing the maturity Umpires : Invent rule changes Crowd noise : Advantage : Drowns out Taylor Disadvantage : Sounds like American "comedy"
  15. Yes...because we only have one plus the ball is not being delivered properly. If you have videos of 2019 compare the quality of ball movement front of centre to the last 16 months.
  16. Brayshaw : Team needs more minutes of him Lever : Good arm waver. Too big to be a rover/Too light to be big.=> in between Petracca : Class considering tagged. Harmes : Underutilised Tomlinson/LAngford/ Hibberd : Stop Bombing Viney / : Get Ball / Disposal ???? Oliver : Take game on !!! Gawn : Shining light Pickett/Rivers/Lochart : Give them time Mc Donald : Lone big fwd very difficult spot Fritsch : Suffered from poor delivery
  17. JUst hope we don't kick a point first up .......and there is no Full-Back to kick it back in. But I suppose we would win by 1 point......Yeeeeeh !!!!
  18. I think we are over analysing his attitude and getting into conspiracy theories territory. I would rate his disposal as better than Viney, but Viney gets first chop. Gus and Clarrie were brilliant in 2018 as a combination , but they are not working together b ecause Viney is back and he is a see ball.... get ball ....make sure noone else gets it player . Yesterday, he had limited time yet had 15 disposals and 5 tackles. There are a few to look at yestrday before you get to him
  19. Some people just jump off the bandwagon pretty quickly. Lever was our weak point. He is not accountable and is not providing the rebound he is employed to do. Hibberd's disposal would have been the reason for his omission. Rivers was serviceable in his 1st game (shwed potential . Nev is not physically made to defend against 200 cm people ....that should be Levers spot being one of the talls. We have a side full of 180- 188 cms (mid sized nowadays). Can Pickett come back in and who does he replace ? Hunt, ANB, Fritsch, Melksham ?? Wetering is a very good footballer and when he has support (as happened yesterday) it becomes really difficult. "Connectivity "means making decisions. TMac could have been used as decoy (team thing) because he was dealing with 2 blokes. Midfielders should realise that means there is a spare bloke somewhere. Their job is to find it ,which we did in 1st Q. Brayshaw with limited time on the ball had 15 Poss and 5 tackles ( 4 clearances ) , a reasonable return. Again our problem is we have Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw , (Harmes), ( Salem) Jones who can rotate ....... but what do they do /where do they go ,when they are not in the middles. Bit harsh on Jackson !!! He is still a kid . Let him run around thinking he is a midsized player and learn his craft.
  20. Yet in the the first qtr and until half way through the 2nd we looked good and organised and really played good pressure in the forward line. The thing was that we were not "bombing" (however that returned. I think our defence was disjointed to say the least We were genuinely down one tall ( because Lever does not play as a Tall and has no accountability) I think he has taken over Jack Watts role as the side's pointer) . There seems to be no thinking in defence . on two occasions at least we had 2or 3 up none down (including some smal trying to get into the air. Rivers overcame a nervous start to be really effective. His disposal and thinking with the ball in his hand is very good for someone so young. Harmes is a mid , Salem does not play opponents but must admit he does have good disposal skills. We need a Tom Stewart who lets opponents know he is in the area by his attack on the footy, maybe Tomlinson could fill that role. We either bring OMac back as a lockdown 1 on 1 or shift TMac back there . We did not miss Hibberd's bombs into the fwd line one bit.
  21. Bit hard on Brayshaw. I thought he showed more poise today especially with his delivery. His tackling was good. After Petracca , Oliver, Gawn he was miles in front of the rest
  22. Thanks to those people who put me onto Footywire stats. Conclusion Rebound 50s . We were -16. Think that says it all. Langdon and Hibberd had a lot of possessions and they rate as effective . Question is to Whom ?????
  23. BIG QUESTION : Could someone tell me where I can get the Stats from yesterday. There does not appear to be section ofn the MFC Website and the Age is not really comprehensiv. Thanks in advance.
  24. Exactly , Hibberd and Langdon in particular had a lot of the ball and did not hit targets OR did not even looked for targets. I cannot blame the forwards because of this strategy. They are are like sitting ducks. Even Neitz would have trouble kicking a score because the ball would be coming over his head all the time. OMac and May at least kicked to a receiver to set a pattern in place . In order to kick a winning score there must be some lowering of eyes !!! We got slaughtered on the rebound ( plus the three attocious handballs that directly lead to goals did not help. Having said that they only kicked 11 Goals (with their 2 key fwds being well held.
  25. In Weidemann, Salem Hore Out Spargo, Brown, Hibberd
