Just to note, the East Cranbourne extension announced as a part of the transport plan. While plans come and go, I get the feeling this one will happen almost in full and will have elements that get delivered sooner rather than later to foster election support. That said I haven't seen a specific date/year around this line extension (only other parts of the plan).

If I recall correctly, they're due for a break pretty soon due to starting early. Something like 6 weeks in (from mid/late Oct?) then a break? Might still have a chance though. Haven't had a looksee myself yet.

I used to also think they were a bit steep but as mentioned many will be trade bait. Used to attempt to lure the young QLD types (Petterd? etc) and readymade QLDers (Riewoldts, Millers) as well as the stars in general. How many highly fancied yet unproven youngsters would it take to secure, say, a Franklin? Some will be also be duds (although as the draft process keeps maturing this is less likely), and some will get injured. I agree it has the potential to impact the MFC's plans, but the AFL are determined to ensure the GC hit the ground running. We have to work within and/or around that.

Yes but each and every time some extra consideration has come into play in BC's case, and importantly each time in the youth category, the club has firmly stated there is no change in its position. There is nothing to reconsider that isn't against that base requirement, and it's not going to change this pre-season.

IF it was a friend or family member affected by drug (dictionary definition) addiction, would the venom shown in this thread still exist in the minds of some of the posters? IMO, the best way to help people is to teach them how to help others. I believe this is the mantle Bailey (and Jim) wear, and that the MFC was probably the best placed (not the best resourced) club to provide that opportunity. Media scrutiny and associated sponsorship concerns are very important considerations. Hence the next-best 'trainer' proposition. I still think it's viable, but given the totality of his rejection by the clubs perhaps a year or so as a clean captain/coach in a decent competition might cut some peoples mustard. Ben himself will certainly now need time to rebuild from a shattered confidence and a low/est self esteem level.

If 2008 was a 'normal' year, I'd agree with your criteria. Keeping it simple I think Bailey is a good coach. I also think he will be shown to be a great coach.

We won 2 of 22 games this year and were gifted another. A more settled pre-season and list will see us improve our competitiveness. Anything beyond that is, IMO, a bonus.
