  1. you got more excuses there than a spin doctor hose he's big enough, heavy enough, strong enough and been around enough to lay a decent tackle..........if he wanted to
  2. thanks for the good laugh wallsy loved your work at the bears tooj
  3. old dee won't be sleeping well tonight they did it just to spite his return to oz
  4. where's the good doctor? upped his tardis and gone to another galaxy i hope
  5. I don't think you do hear rangey I never talked about playing a game of bluff and poker (like some have) I talked about doing win/win deals with gws/gcs of course, if we can't do a deal and our hand is forced we will take him with our first rounder but until our hand is forced we should try and come up with something it's not rocket science
  6. why not focus on BOTH we need to HTFU just like other clubs would and fight for every inch of territory and not just roll over when it gets difficult you'll never never know if you don't give it a go
  7. Why? In the example I gave its either 1 actual week or 2 actual weeks (1 VFL fixture) Now, what if player is senior/rookie listed but never played AFL, or is just a VFL only player? So what are the 'new' rules? What is the precedent? Seems as clear as mud to me.
  8. OK, just to be difficult (devil's advocate) What if the penalty was one week The player is senior listed, not a regular and unlikely to play seniors in near future (speculation obviously) VFL team has bye next week AFL team has no bye What is your decision? See, it's not easy unless there are well defined pre-existing rules
  9. Maurie we want our cake and to eat it! If there is a way to take JV with our 2nd rounder we should pursue it ruthlessly and leave no stones unturned I'm sure other (successful) clubs like Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton would It's a 2 percenter issue
  10. i don't think gcs or gws should qualify under priority pick rules whilst they still operate under "special rules" they were always expected to lose games under their policy of going for youth the afl will probably just do what they want to anyway
  11. so when are we going for a flag tony? i might take a break until near that time....appreciate any information
  12. true, but at least he made up for it in other ways unlike some of our lot
  13. that is beside the point......we are discussing if the current system is fair and if it can be improved on there was always supposed to be a bonus element to it i.e. you pay your next higher pick to "what he is worth" decided by other clubs bidding problem here as we know is that other clubs don't really have to bid on "what he is worth" i.e. other clubs can play ducks and drakes to force a club's hand and pay overs (i.e. no bonus element) I would call this manipulating the draft which is just another fancy name for tampering, esp if as reported other higher up clubs have been lobbying GWS/GCS (never would be admitted though)
  14. 1] If JV is not top 3 and we finish 16th then we pay overs - not fair value 2] If the 2012 premiers have a FS who is rated as a no. 1 they get him for pick 18 (actually higher cos of compo picks) - so is it fair that the stronger clubs get a top ranking FS cheaper than a weak club? and you think this system is fair
  15. no i'm not proposing we revert to old system. I can't imagine why you thought i would be proposing that. the f/s rule was always seen as somewhat f a "bonus" to clubs and a token towards tradition the old system was just too cheap and was rightly scrapped the new system is full of iniquities, imagine if we finished say 4th, We'd get jv for about pick 16 instead of around pick 3 so why is that the more successful a club is the cheaper the pick for a (high rated) FS? Is this equitable? A better system would be an independent panel rate all the FSs and the club then uses its next highest pick based on that rating that way you always pay unders (even if only slight) on the current system which encourages mischief we look like being the first club to pay overs for a FS
  16. who said it was illegal? we all know it is "legalised draft tampering" but we also know the afl is a law unto itself and won't do anything to stop obvious false bids
  17. if you can't see it's a false bid when (if) JV is not the top draft pick then I can't help you
  18. Geez old dee we thought you must have emigrated its been so long looks like you may be back just in time for your mate jamie to get a callup
  19. are you serious nasher? edit: because it is an obvious false bid
  20. Ummmmm, think your sarcasm monitor needs a new battery Jack
  21. Exactly, more hypocrisy And I would have thought that e.g. GWS nominating JV in the FS draft if he wasn't a no. 1 prospect and they preferred another could be seen as draft tampering also. Doing a deal with GWS just to bid "honestly" is hardly draft tampering Show some balls MFC and threaten AFL with court action (won't happen of course)
  22. Unfortunately they won't......but the VFL tribunal will
