  1. Delisted twice! Can't get a game ahead of Draper who has the grand total of 8 games. Bellchambers retired and still Essendon delisted him.!
  2. Lucifers Hero explained this in another thread. Top picks ( first round mainly) are diluted by NGA picks. e.g Bulldogs will nominate Ugle-Hagen, but have to use points from their lower round picks. The picks for other clubs are further being diluted by FA compensation picks being slotted in. i.e Essendon has already got pick 7...everyone below that has been moved down 1 already. So say starting with pick 9 in an uncompromised draft, you could finish with a player who would ordinarily be pick 15! ( example only) However, a pick in the 30's or 40's will become more valuable because clubs like the Bulldogs will have to use their 2nd and 3rd round picks to get the points necessary for the NGA players they want i.e pick 45 may become pick 38. ( example only) At the end of the day, first round picks are not something we need to be seeking to trade into this year.
  3. Yes....this is what Club culture is all about. He will get games if he is good enough, if not we haven't shoved a leader out the door like we did with Junior.
  4. Even if the Pies pay $200k that still leaves $700K for a club to find to pay him. If you pick up a player with that sort of financial poison pill attached, how to we find the money to pay Gawn, Oliver and Jackson next year to extend their contracts?
  5. If the article is correct and they are paying him $900K for 5 years, then there would be few suitors. And while the article suggests Collingwood will pay $200K of that, it will still be too big a pill for most clubs to swallow. Besides...why help them out with their salary cap problems, of their own making?
  6. If you stick to the Sherrin, you probably don't have to ditch the others regardless.
  7. Great Great summary LG. Shows why early round draft picks this year are severely compromised. Also don't forget Free agent compensation which can further devalue a clubs position. Essendon lose Daniher, GWS Cameron etc. and your first or second round pick drops again. Then Gold Coast still have a compensation pick mid first round, another place drop for teams after that.
  8. Hope the poor turf gets to come home one day.
  9. He was playing HFF during the season. Bontempelli 88 in 18 games, Dangerfield 50 in 19. K.Picket 35 in 14 games.
  10. 23 tackles in 17 games. He's no defender!
  11. could be a good buy if he has heard North will have to move and the ground becomes a park...?
  12. Absolute piece of rubbish from Wilson. Essendon stay at Windy Hill and all their mis-demeanours would never have occurred? Move from a sub-standard training facility to probably the best in the league and that caused them to stray to the dark side?
  13. No premierships for Nafan. Should have stayed with the Bears.
  14. Kreuzer would have left a sizable hole in Carltons salary cap.
  15. Agree. Just because someone played football doesn't make them qualified, even on a football club board. Have a look at other clubs As an example, West coast have none and others that do are because the individual brings more than football experience e.g. Andrew Leoncelli in the past.
  16. If Fantasia, Daniher and Saad go, then with compensation picks and traded picks , you can guarantee that our first pick (23) has dropped further. This is exactly why we traded out of this draft to get Pickett last year.
  17. Great selections all round. One can't judge too much from highlights reels, but the new bunch of girls are a much stronger than before. Greizer and Patrikios set the new standard last year, and it is good to see a couple of similar players selected. The other thing is kicking. I suppose more strength gives more kicking power, but once again a couple of those rookies can kick much further than what we have seen in the past. Really like the way Mietta Kendall plays. Hope to see her breaking open packs in the coming year.
  18. Great podcast and should be a staple instruction on how to run a football club. He managed to extract both Essendon and Melbourne from the pile of excrement that both found themselves in. His message was was to get the right people in, get the finances in order to match your income and set achievable plans for the future. It was interesting that he noted that you have to get the TRUST of the members back, by actions. That trust is easily lost, but you have to work hard to get it back. When they see results, then they return.
  19. This was for 2019: https://www.aflonline.com.au/afl-news/what-is-the-average-salary-of-an-afl-player/ "The average salary of an AFL player currently sits at a comfortable $362,471 annually, with Sydney Swans superstar Lance Franklin understood to be the highest paid player pulling in around $1.3 million per year". Simply divide the salary cap by the number of players on the list.
  20. Is there more to this given he is being taken to court? "It is also a new offence to fail to comply with any of the emergency management Directions issued by the WA Government in relation to COVID-19, including Directions about self-isolation, community gatherings, community activities and travel. The maximum penalty if you are deal with by a court is 12 months imprisonment and a fine of $50,000. However, police may instead issue you with an infringement notice to pay $1,000." and: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-29/wa-coronavirus-restrictions-police-to-enforce-on-the-spot-fines/12100534
  21. Found the answer to my own question: it is the 1964 GF. I was confused by the lack of streamers/paper on the ground in the colour version , but the Hassa Mann goal is at the 5.20 min mark in this clip: Incidentally, I haven't seen this version previously, and was only posted in July 2019. I think it is the longest version of the highlights, but misses the final siren after the Crompton goal.
  22. Can anybody put a date to the Melbourne v Collingwood game? It obviously isn't 1966 when the film was made, as Barassi, Lord, Adams are playing...so that places it perhaps in 1964? It doesn't look like the grandfinal to me....
  23. ....after 6pm. No pubs open. No restaurants. No late night trading after 6pm. No reason for anyone to be in the city...( same as today!). Note the traffic lights on flash. There was no traffic so they switched to that mode, all you had to do was travel slowly and give way.
  24. From 45:35 to the finish. Tells of her experiences with the Dublin draft combine, the importance of Sinead Goldrick and Niamh McEvoy toward getting her to Melbourne, and the preparation she is making prior to coming over https://player.whooshkaa.com/episode?id=736253 https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/798330/dees-welcome-third-aflw-irish-star
