So, where to from here with pick 2?
jabberwocky replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Day one. Trying to lure a contracted young midfielder will not be a simple exercise. -
Not Tudor. https://twitter.com/ClarkyHeraldSun

Unless he is part of a deal to land a class mid or 2 I will fair dinkim spit chips. More promise that that bloke we took at number 1 IMO.

Inside and outside mids are outdated concepts. We need good well rounded mids who win thier own footy and run hard to receive. Please lets not repeat the mistakes of Bailey/Prendergast. I am sure the current fd know what they want. -
Who on our list has the size, speed, strength and agility of Jack Fitz? Add to that some steady improvement in contested marking, good courage, a decent brain and willingness to work. Kicking skills which was his big knock are too becoming more reliable. Our investment is about 30% mature. Should not trade. NB Has all the tools to be a very good CHB.

I would trade fitzy for only a top line mid. He is one of the best prospects on our list. Blokes with his skill sets don't come along too often. Do not trade unless it is a must.
-
This is worded in an interesting way. Its doesn't deny that the player himself has asked to be traded and the player or his manager have made no denials. There is something in this I am sure, but if the club doesn't want to release the player everyone will need to wait.

State of Play - 3 October and beyond

Essendon have said that they won't stand in a player's way if they want to move on, will try to find it, it was about a month ago. -
Trade period hasn't started yet. I am actually fairly upbeat that we are going to improve our list considerably over the next couple of weeks. With a couple of experienced mids and some young strong types picked by someone other than Prendergast things could get markedly better. List improvements, class coach and a decent run with injury...........

I like my ruckmen to take marks around the ground or play as an extra midfielder, one that can do both consistently would be preferable. I like Spencer's attitude but he needs to have more impact around the ground.

We have to sign or trade Frawley prior to end of trade period

We want to keep our free agents, we need to be a better club. We want to be a better club we need to keep our required free agents. -
Looks like he finds the pill..can he kick it?
-
Mitch, grunt once for "no" and twice for "yes".

Pick 21 would be an excellent result, perhaps better than we would get in a trade.
-
I would be expecting them to be in tears, have a wake all wearing black and tell the AFL that we just lost the greatest Dees player of the modern era. Then ask how the AFL were planning to compensate this enormous loss.

The club as a whole including members needs to shed the nerves in regards to recruiting. Our recruiting during the Prendergast/Bailey era couldn't have been worse and have left a legacy of fear. The decision makers now in play are very different in both recruiting and game strategy. We prostituted pick 2 around, if we don't get any decent bites our guys will pick the youngster that they rate as the best possible for our club at that pick. FWIW I don't think it will be Aish, not based on any inside information, just a feeling.
-
The worst that can happen is that we pick up the 2nd best rated kid in the country.
-
This is backwards. Sylvia is one reason why we have been no good, not the other way around. Stick the Swans players in our midfield and Sylvia would be playing on the forward flank, or as the sub, or at Casey.
-
gone tears shed ..zero. Show me the compo.
-
Yeah but would ya swap em for pick 2
-
I agree with that but with Roos on board some might take the shift as granted or as having begun already.

Using the words "highly likely" indicates to me that a deal is either very close or done. It is stronger that the usual lines trotted out ie " we'll trade it for the right deal" " open to the possibility" etc. It's fun speculating.
-
I thought much the same. The club is doing a nice job of keeping us all speculating.

Clever accounting or gross mismanagement?
