  1. Dogs problems aren't in the midfield.
  2. Ffs even if we improve by 10 goals we will still lose most games. Our midfield might be 3 times more efficient, that still will not be enough to mix it at the top.
  3. 1 warrior an experienced linkman and 2/3 promising young mids will make a difference. We might be three times as good..ie win 6 games.
  4. We won't get him. Not at 9 and not at 40.
  5. from wiki 2011The ever-consistent performer put his body on the line in trademark fashion in 2011 and averaged over 24 possessions per game for the seventh season in a row. The club stalwart’s season was acknowledged by taking out the Scott West Most Courageous Player award. Ranked No. 1 at the club for tackles (125, averaging 5.7), handballs (323, averaging 14.7) and marks (125, averaging 5.7) in 2011. His fearless style of play was recognised with a nomination for Most Courageous Player at the AFLPA awards. 2012Without attracting any excess attention the veteran ranked second in average handballs at the Club in 2012, third in average disposals, third it total marks, fifth in hitouts, fifth in average tackles and third in disposal efficiency. He shifted his time between the midfield and defence, providing extra assistance and experience to the back six when needed. Cross capped off Season 2012 taking out the Most Courageous Award at the Charles Sutton Medal for the second consecutive year.
  6. The days of the pure receiver are gone. Find me mids who can win thier own pill. clear it and run hard to create options, then tackle, man up, corrall and kick the odd sausage. 5 or 6 blokes in the midfield do that consistently we have something to do in september again. There's a line or 2 there but will leave it..
  7. I wouldn't pretend to know much about this crop but this guy looks solid and hard to knock over. A well rounded player and of the type Roos will like. Depends on whether the guys are happy that we have collected enough grunt.
  8. It is amazing how poorly skilled a team bereft of confidence look.
  9. Whatever you wish to debate about the finer points and pros and cons of the "senior" players at the club over the last five years the single most important fact is that they failed. And that is a fact.
  10. I don't like doing this before seeing some preseason form, there are always bolters and sliders. I am pretty satisfied that we will have significantly more grunt around the football, and with that we should see an entirely different chemistry as a team. IE players that were somewhat useful may be scrapped and some who have not been able to get into the game may end up important. We still need class and pace, whether that surfaces somewhat from within the list, or whether we pick it up over the next couple of drafts it will be something we need to find to compete with the top teams.
  11. try again
  12. He's a footy coach not a salesman.
  13. I like the quiet no [censored] approach. Not selling hope with words but by getting the job done.
  14. Put your money on gcfc to make the eight.
  15. Patrick karnezis headed to psd according to Herald Sun. Pies set to pick him up.
  16. Can see why he went at 3. Strong and clean in tight.
  17. Hawthorn serves Hawthorn as does any club. AFL is a particularly adversarial competition. None of the power clubs would truly support the concept of equalisation. They won't want to relinquish thier power, would you? If i was a Hawthorn member i would expect them to fight like dogs to stay at the top. But I'm not, I'm a dees man and I would like to see us take every little advantage we can and try and claw our way upward. Then we might have a voice and some clout again.
  18. I love this bloke, have seen a couple of his games on the box only. I really hope he can stay on the park. Exactly what we need.
  19. I think the punchline in our willingness to part with pick 2 is that our preferred player or players may likely be there at pick 9. Personally I believe that it is because there are no strong bodied pure mids at the very pointy end (that is just my assumption). I believe that Roos is attempting to build a core of strong bodies who are well rounded footballers, not necessarily the glamourous types. It will be interesting to hear from Mahoney at the post draft debrief. I will also be interested if the no. 9 selection gets us another strong bodied mid. It may mean that Tyson ends up being a bargain having effectively given up pick 20 for him. I know that this possibility has been covered. Roosy's contempt for draft pick numbers is well documented, he with Taylor will pick the bloke he wants.
  20. FA has worked in our favour....this time.
  21. We have a number who are not up to it in the middle. We sometimes lose 10 clearances in a row, we don't have the strength over the ball, the smarts to use it properly in close and if we win it we don't run hard enough to create options. I have no doubt that the club is trying to remedy this through this trade period and the draft. It is obvious from the targets and those we have landed and those who have our interest. And "talent" is a relative word.
  22. Roos will get a fleet of big arsed mids. Tyson, Michie, possibly Vince added to Jones and Viney. He will want strength over the footy and the ability to win clearances. That would be goal 1 I would imagine.
  23. To be bumped next year
