  1. I thought Toumpas had a pretty good game. He just reminds me of an overly excited cocker-spaniel on a slippery floor every time I see him though. Wish him all the best though. Seems like a decent bloke. Glad we have Ben Kennedy.
  2. The comments here about Goodwin and Essendrug are tedious. I'm bloody glad we have him. Reckon he could be the next Clarkson.
  3. He's the next Paul Roos. Literally. A football player's coach. With a stack of acumen for the game. We'll win a flag with Goodwin at the helm.
  4. I'm very relaxed about the situation with Jesse. We are in the box seat to re-sign him. We just need to perform on the field now - that is, and should be, the focus now. Won't be so relaxed if we put in tres ordinaire performances week in, week out, and continually get belted. Perhaps it's seriously misguided optimism, but I just can't see that happening anymore.
  5. Absolutely agree. My immediate thought upon reading the article is that this is probably being driven by Jesse's manager who's giving his client sensible advice in the circumstances. I harbour no fear about the pull of the West. My concern is more that a club like Hawthorn will have a red hot crack at luring him. Against that, we are a club on the way up, he is mates with all of the future talent on the list, we have the financial resources and coaching acumen to keep him, and we have a narrative to success that no one other club possesses - i.e. the old, irrelevant foundation club which has been the laughing stock of the comp for decades, recruits a band of brothers who transform the club into a professional, hard edged, competitive force that dominates the competition for years to come - it's the stuff of movies. And Jesse can lead that charge. It's gotta be a far more compelling proposition than simply taking over the baton at a club which has won 6 flags in 10 years. I would've thought the odds are heavily stacked in our favour to keep him. For a very long time. Go bless us all, heh.
  6. Perhaps. I reckon Garland is really respected by the player group and that Roos rates him highly. Agree with your comment about Vince though. I'll be surprised if, at a minimum, he's not in the LG.
  7. Bump. Certainty: Jones (C). Likely: Dunn. Viney. T Mac. Garland. Vince. Possibility (one or two of): Lumumba. Trengove. Gawn. Hogan. Watts. Dawes. Jetta.
  8. We simply cannot afford for either Gawn or Hogan to go down for an extended period this year. Not sufficient cover/back up options for these two.
  9. It's weird the things you learn reading this site from time to time - I had never thought Grimes new role might be as an outside mid/winger in 2016. Thought he'd take Cross's role if he was to have any role in 2016. That said, I'm encouraged by the reports. I'd love to see Grimes play his entire career at the Dees. And succeed. He has a good tank and he sticks the the task (i.e. will run back defensively), so maybe the new role will suit him well.
  10. Possibly. I didn't see the game. FWIW - I think Ben Kennedy will offer more to the MFC going forward than Toumpas. He's more in the mould of the Roos' prototype we now recruit.
  11. Toumpas is named as second best for Port in the match summary on afl.com.au.
  12. I don't wish Toumpas any ill will. He wanted to succeed. At the Demons. Good luck to the kid.
  13. Looks more like the third part of the Ring cycle - the Ride of the Valkyries. Not sure Wagner is going to enjoy where that particular ride is heading either ...
  14. I think this is best illustrated by the Swans in 2005 who essentially jagged a flag on the basis of an injury free season, despite not remotely having the best list in the competition at the time. Sorry if I've missed it elsewhere, but what's wrong with Jones? And White and Hulett?
  15. Bruce was someone who should've finished his career as a one club player with the Dees. Not sure what the circumstances were as to why he went to the Hawks, but that he did really knocked the shine off what otherwise would've been a fairly stellar MFC career.
  16. I think Toumpas will become an okay AFL player. I think Ben Kennedy better suits the MFC's current model for player type etc. Win - win. Toumpas struck me as a really decent individual. I wish him well.
  17. 1993. Essendon. Dare to dream. ( ... still only predicting 9-11 wins though.)
  18. Thanks Webber. As someone with no medical training and limited medical knowledge, I have to say I had thought the same thing (i.e. that kicking on his right foot would place much more strain on his left foot, which is the foot that remains on the ground and supports all of his body weight, than simply kicking a football with the top of his left foot and having the physical pressure being placed on the right foot). Nice to know that common sense is actually supported by the medical position. Wonder if Jack's in the mix for the leadership group this year? He's a bloody good footballer, and is clearly highly respected by the players and coaches alike.
  19. Wonder if Craig Jennings brought this with him to the role. I recall seeing a while back similar footage of a Bulldogs training session and they were saying it gave the coaching staff a really good insight into running patterns etc - a so-called 'bird's eye view' of things. In fact, it was possibly Craig J who was interviewed at the time - but I didn't know him from a bar of soap. I was quite impressed though and recall thinking at the time, 'I bet we don't have anything like that'.
  20. Agree. ProDee's posts in recent times are kind of editorial in nature and are always well considered, interesting and insightful. I read every one with interest.
