  1. I thought we missed an opportunity with Disco last night to use him as a defensive forward. Carlton have two main intercept marking threats in Weitering and McGovern. I'd have liked to see Disco given accountability for one of them. So maybe next week we could give him a crack at this role against the other McGovern or Barrass.
  2. I'm not a conspiracy theorist when it comes to umpires. But I agree that some individuals appear to be adjudicated differently to the majority. I've long thought that Cripps is a protected species
  3. Achilles / heel issue. Disappointing that Boy George hasn't got another run.
  4. Which is fair enough given that Captains Runs are Clayton's training sessions. Not sure what some people are expecting. There's SFA training done in 5 day break weeks. It's all about recovery.
  5. This is bollocks. If the AFL have $2.2M to [censored] away, I'm sure grass roots footy could find a use for it. Or Past Player Welfare perhaps. They already get a medal. I'd suggest that any player who feels he needs a dirty great chunk of bling to remember his premiership has been dodging the concussion protocols
  6. Any danger that these clowns could fund something themselves ? As far as I'm concerned the only appropriate use of government funding for Geelong would be to build a decent bypass around so none of us need to enter the bloody joint.
  7. I'd be surprised if they brought him in. The club has invested months in his rehabilitation. The glimpses he gave off limited game time indicates it's an investment worth making. He'll come in when he's ready for the long term. Not as a sugar hit.
  8. Excellent idea. Player spins the wheel to determine his own penalty. It's a TV ratings bonanza waiting to happen
  9. Much overlooked, particularly by our own. Had those Carlton & Collingwood games been home & away, the boys would have been lauded for running them so close under the circumstances. But "straight sets" is the sexier headline. It also fuels the MFCSS. Sometimes I reckon we'd have got more credit if we'd lost each by 10 goals instead of a few points.
  10. The Bears were established about a decade earlier. Played out of the Gold Coast. The Christopher Skase era. Fitzroy was ripe for the picking. North were confident that they had the whip hand for a merger (read takeover) but the Bears under president Noel Gordon pulled the rug out from under them and the merger of Fitzroy Lions and the Carrara Koalas was instituted. That's the nutshell version
  11. Max was relatively normal sized until a significant growth spurt in his later teens. Don't give up on young George just yet ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  12. That last few minutes was perfectly set up for an outbreak of Frostball. Was hoping to see him go full Crazy Horse off half back and jag a winning goal from 60.
  13. Currently it has a redeeming factor. Essendon are getting beat
  14. A quarter time kick up the clacker required. The boys are not running
  15. I'll give a more expansive reply later but the changes that have resulted in today's "ruck lotto" had their genesis in the 1979 preliminary final where Peter Moore and Gary Dempsey spent the day wrestling each other to the ground. The VFL hated the look of it and in a typical knee jerk overreaction, instituted the white line. In reality it was poor umpiring. Had Moore or Dempsey been penalised for holding as they should have been, the wrestling would soon have stopped. The white line was of benefit to beanpoles like Justin Madden and high leapers like our own Jeff White. It also lead to a heap of PCL injuries so the AFL brought in the circle to restrict the speed at which ruckmen came together. They've been tweaking ever since..... and making it worse. Another unintended consequence was that there's no longer an umpire in the country who can effectively umpire a ruck contest. And it's not their fault
  16. Why stop there ? They should repeal every ruck rule since 1979
  17. Paid a visit to the Adelaide BigFooty forum. A distinct lack of optimism there. Anyway, many are suggesting that Tex's back is stuffed. Can't bend, can't get his hands above his head and as such, think he should be left out of the team this Thursday. Short turnaround, plane flights to and from Perth. If he does miss, Stephen May's potential return could be delayed to give him further time to recover. Whether he likes it or not.
  18. It was a cheap shot after the whistle had blown to stop play Jaded. Also flush in the back making the umpires decision easy. I think he recognised it for the cheap shot it was and couldn't pay that free fast enough.
  19. I know where you're coming from. At half time I was going to the shed to find some paint I could watch dry. Now I'm thinking this could be ok if I turn the sound off and play the Benny Hill theme on loop. It's like half of these blokes are wearing clown shoes
  20. @hardtack According to Blake Howes himself on Ben Gibson's podcast he's been dubbed Halfway Howes for the past 18 months Not entirely unhappy with it Gus Brayshaw the originator
  21. Fair call. CBF with that either
  22. Fritsch can do it. A few years ago when Nick Haynes was at the height of his powers and broadly recognised as the foremost intercepting halfback in the game, Fritsch nullified him.....twice in the season. I don't share your passion for research @binman and CBF looking up which year it was
  23. Way too much information @old dee
