  1. Players watch how team mates are treated by clubs and when you expect loyalty, sometimes you have to go a bit extra to reward it. Jones knocked back many offers, to stay with us in the sh-t times, to his own detriment. He has to be treated with respect for that. I think Jones is probably done, but if he gets the all clear from the medicos to play again, then he should be given the opportunity if his form warrants, to go around again. If he doesn't deserve a game, he doesn't get one and if he is happy to mentor young players at Casey, then that is to our advantage. He can always pull the pin during the year and be an assistant coach, with his payment not in the soft cap, but the salary cap and I would imagine he would not get a lot to play on. That is what the Hawks are doing with Burgoyne. I don't accept that he will stop a younger player being on the list, as worth more than the respect he should be given and we can always uplift a rookie. It should be noted that our bottom couple of players generally don't have long careers. All that being said, I would imagine the FD would have a long chat with him, but if the medicos and Burgo say go for it and he wants to do the work, without any playing guarantee, we owe it to him. You can be ruthless and sentimental, it just depends on defining building culture, as something that needs a ruthless approach, over perhaps a logical approach. It could be classified as ruthless in denying another player a place on the list, in order to send off a champion of the club and the AFL, in the right manner and with respect. That is ruthless list management in a reverse sense. Players don't want their team mates treated like sh-t, while we demand loyalty from them. They need to see that we are a strong club, that is building a strong culture, based around everyone being in it together. I promise you all, we won't lose a flag by not putting player number 150 on our list. Who knows, Jones could still play some reasonable footy and maybe even kick a match winning goal.
  2. I think someone said we need a 50 point differential, in our game and theirs, to bring Saints % below ours and a win by us of course.
  3. I am actually warming to the idea of beating WCE in an elimination final in Perth, if we can get into the finals.
  4. Well the reward for 8th place is playing WCE at home.
  5. You must be happy Finlayson is staying a Giant.
  6. A WW II Spitfire plane garage.
  7. He won't get you a flag. I smell the Cats in a big way on this. Viney/Crouch and Cameron and they would see all their problems solved in one hit.
  8. Believe it or not I can see GWS letting Cameron go and then keeping all the other players they want. His output this year has been poor. He is on a fortune. They have Himmelberg, Finlayson and Riccardi and maybe others. I know it sounds stupid, but they want to keep a lot of players, who are going to cost plenty. Williams, Taranto and Kelly for starters. PS. I actually posted this before the previous post came up on screen.
  9. Prize is on its way. There are air holes in the box as you will notice.
  10. He qualifies Father and Son for us, not for Pies or either Perth side. If good enough and if dad Shane has good relations with us and Shane/Taj see a future for us, he could choose his club instead of being drafted anywhere. We will know in a while if he is good enough and if we want him and if he wants us.

Posted we should be after him when he left Suns and now people are saying we should get him. Think it was at the same time I was saying to go after Finlayson, when he was up for contract. No way would I do TMac and 22 for Saad.
  12. Not me. I love to hear rumours.
  13. Not a sling tackle. No concussion. Stayed on the ground. Arms not pinned. Didn't drive his head into the ground, but rather momentum took them both forward. Actually an everyday tackle. Correct decision.
  14. Do you think that the reason he had no tackles was because he was making position for the pass from upfield and therefore trying to get away from his defender, rather than tagging him? Then on the miskick, if the defender got it, he may not have been right next to him to lay the tackle. I also would love to see him go back to the hbf or wing, where he can run straight at the ball and take off when he gets it, instead of being hemmed in the fp. He may not be a natural small forward, but he sure as hell was a good running back, who could set up a goal, or kick the odd one himself. He was a linebreaker and we have tried to turn him into a small forward.
  15. Thanks Deeman for posting those videos. The 2016 JH was brilliant. Instead of just giving up on him, we should try and get him back to that form and we would have another very good player.
  16. Why are we all upset? He only hit 3 Dees players and we know he is clumsy. TBH it is easy to mistake a bald head for a footy, even though it is attached to a neck and has ears sticking out the sides. Claytonโ€™s jaw does look like a footy and his ribs are a good spot to rest your knees when you crash into him. It is not like Mumford is a co - ordinated athlete who is supposed to go after the footy. Probably doesnโ€™t happen if one of our clumsy players of the past like Grinter, Biffen or Big Carl weโ€™re playing. All we can do to retaliate these days is to swing tackle, oh wait a minute.
  17. This is exactly what I posted previously. Punch a bloke in the head, but donโ€™t concuss him or break his jaw and you can get off with a fine. Tackle a bloke and cause a concussion and you get 4 weeks, if you are a no name player. That is a joke.
  18. Free was given for holding the man, with resultant goal to GWS. Melbourne player said after he never grabbed him and replay showed he didnโ€™t. Umpire saidโ€ I thought โ€œ you grabbed him. Since when are free paid for thinking something happened rather than seeing it actually happen?

This type of play would make us a more dangerous side and increase scoring opportunities, but for some unknown reason it is not in our play book.

That is a definite area that needs work. Why do we not use empty ground space up the corridor or on the other side to Gawn. I donโ€™t think Gawn took one mark from the kickoff last night and it did lead to repeat opposition entries.
  21. I recall being in Palm Cove when we drafted Rivers and I started yelling in excitement, as he was the one I wanted for our last pick. People were staring at me. I think I then asked you if you knew much about him as a kid, not about his footy. I said at the time that he could be the best of the 3 we got and pushed him on DL from that moment on. Yes he could be the best of the 3 and I am thrilled for him and the great game he played tonight. Pickett played his best game for us too and could have kicked 4.
  22. His best game for us and hopefully a game to build his footy career from. That should give him some confidence.
  23. Viney 8 possies all holding the ball or turnovers.
