Recruiting - where did it all go wrong
Just had a quick look at a few players. Humphries Geelong pick 63 Sam De Koning 19 Tom De Koning 30 Zach Merrett 26. Couple of Irish boys at cats. Tom Stewart mature age player in a suburban league. Here is the 2021 draft as an example after pick 20. 21 Matthew Johnson Fremantle Subiaco WAFL âGold Coast (priority pick) 22 Josh Goater North Melbourne Calder Cannons NAB League 23 Sam Butler Hawthorn GWV Rebels NAB League âCollingwood (2020) 24 Toby Conway Geelong Geelong Falcons NAB League âFremantleâCollingwoodâGold Coast 25 Mitch Knevitt Geelong Geelong Falcons NAB League âWestern Bulldogs (draft)âAdelaide 26 Connor MacDonald Hawthorn Dandenong Stingrays NAB League 27 Jesse Motlop Carlton South Fremantle WAFL 28 Tyler Sonsie Richmond Eastern Ranges NAB League 29 Sam Banks Richmond Tasmania Devils NAB League âCollingwoodâFremantle 30 Judson Clarke Richmond Dandenong Stingrays NAB League âSt Kilda (2020) 31 Brady Hough West Coast Peel Thunder WAFL 32 James Willis Geelong North Adelaide SANFL âGreater Western Sydney (2020)âEssendon (2020) 33 Mitchito Owens St Kilda Sandringham Dragons NAB League Next Generation Academy selection (Japanese descent), matched bid by Sydney, used picks 48 and 54 [140] 34 Matthew Roberts Sydney South Adelaide SANFL 35 Paul Curtis North Melbourne Western Jets NAB League âWestern Bulldogs (draft)âGeelong (draft)âGreater Western Sydney (2020) 36 Jake Soligo Adelaide Eastern Ranges NAB League âMelbourneâBrisbane Lions (2020) 37 Rhett Bazzo West Coast Swan Districts WAFL âSydney (2020)âPort Adelaide (2020) 38 Miller Bergman North Melbourne Dandenong Stingrays NAB League âCollingwood (draft)âWestern Bulldogs (2020) 39 Blake Howes Melbourne Sandringham Dragons NAB League âAdelaideâMelbourne (2020) 3 40 Corey Warner Sydney East Fremantle WAFL Free agency compensation pick (Hewett) 41 James Tunstill Brisbane Lions East Perth WAFL âGeelongâCollingwood 42 Josh Fahey Greater Western Sydney Queanbeyan Tigers AFL Canberra Academy selection, matched bid by Western Bulldogs, used picks 47 and 89 [141] 43 Arthur Jones Western Bulldogs Claremont WAFL âNorth Melbourne (draft)âRichmondâGold Coast (2020) 44 Zac Taylor Adelaide Calder Cannons NAB League âMelbourne (draft)âSt Kilda 45 Arlo Draper Collingwood South Adelaide SANFL 46 Alastair Lord Essendon Norwood SANFL 47 Marcus Windhager St Kilda Sandringham Dragons NAB League Next Generation Academy selection (Indigenous), matched bid by Geelong, used pick 57 [142] 48 Flynn Kroeger Geelong Eastern Ranges NAB League âBrisbane LionsâWest Coast (2020) 49 Cooper Murley Collingwood Norwood SANFL âNorth Melbourne (draft)âWestern Bulldogs (draft)âCarltonâWest CoastâSydney (2020) 50 Garrett McDonagh Essendon Richmond VFL âPort Adelaide (2020) 51 Oscar Adams St Kilda Glenelg SANFL âMelbourne (draft)âWestern Bulldogs (2020) 52 Harvey Harrison Collingwood North Adelaide SANFL âGold CoastâGeelong (2020)âBrisbane Lions (2020)âMelbourne (2020) 4 53 Jai Serong Hawthorn Gippsland Power NAB League âMelbourne (2020)âNorth Melbourne (2020) 54 Eric 'Roy' Benning Fremantle Claremont WAFL Next Generation Academy selection (Indigenous) âGold Coast 55 Hugh Jackson Port Adelaide North Adelaide SANFL âAdelaide (2020)âHawthorn (2020) 56 Dante Visentini Port Adelaide Sandringham Dragons NAB League âCarlton (draft) 57 Jack Williams West Coast East Fremantle WAFL 58 Lachlan Rankin Sydney Oakleigh Chargers NAB League 59 Jackson Archer North Melbourne Northern Knights NAB League Fatherâson selection (son of Glenn Archer) âMelbourne (2020)âBrisbane Lions (2020) 60 Jase Burgoyne Port Adelaide Woodville-West Torrens SANFL Fatherâson selection (son of Peter Burgoyne) âCollingwood (2020)âGreater Western Sydney (2020)âGeelong (2020) 61 Luke Cleary Western Bulldogs Sandringham Dragons NAB League 62 Greg Clark West Coast Subiaco WAFL âPort Adelaide (draft) 63 Charlie Constable Gold Coast Geelong AFL 64 Cooper Whyte Geelong Geelong Falcons NAB League 65 Taj Woewodin Melbourne East Fremantle WAFL Fatherâson selection (son of Shane Woewodin) So you are quite correct, there are plenty of players outside the top 20 or so picks in the draft each year and it depends what you prioritize and how good your recruiters are.

Recruiting - where did it all go wrong
Maybe they want to keep him as a mate for Wade Derksen in the Giants VFL team.

I have already posted that, so agree with you.

Recruiting - where did it all go wrong
I stand to be corrected, but isn't Tim lamb in charge of the List, in respect of TPP and player contracts? I understand It is JT and his Recruiting people, who are in charge of recruiting, being the selection of both draftees and traded in players. Put simply, it is Lamb's job to keep players we want to keep and balance the books and it is Taylor's job to select players we go after.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
If you passed him off for adoption the way we dispose, he would be passed into the wrong house.

How many players have improved ?
No, not enough room on DL.

CASEY: Rd 03 vs Geelong VFL
Played in ruck when TC went off. TBH he couldnât do worse than our fumbling forwards atm and the ball wouldnât be kicked to him either. He did ok. Kicked a goal and he is an ok kick. Not setting the world on fire but he might just need a breakout game.

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Campbell did his hammy for Casey.

NON-MFC: Round 04
Think it was last year.

CASEY: Rd 03 vs Geelong VFL
I thought he was poor and looked disinterested. Poor disposal and his opponents dominated in clearances. Aside from a 10 minute period I thought Woey was ordinary and Billings is a complete turnover merchant. I think all three will leave at season end. I thought AJ tried hard and Jed Adams is improving.

NON-MFC: Round 04
Apparently the metal detectors worked and the operator wasnât paying attention. Human error.

CASEY: Rd 03 vs Geelong VFL
Missed two sitters from about 15 metres and dropped a chest mark, so instead of 5 goals, he could have had 8 goals. A good game.

CASEY: Rd 03 vs Geelong VFL
Agree. He hasn't missed a target kicking out and is not predictable where he goes, unlike the Seniors.

NON-MFC: Round 04
It's unbelievable taking guns into the ground, but loaded, that is just horrific. Any surprise in this State they are on bail? How did they get past the security machines?

Petracca & Oliver at the Dees in 2026?
This is the path we continue on. There are also very good players outside the top 10 draft picks, you just have to be good at selecting or finding them. This year add Kalani and a couple of talented NGA boys and draft well with the picks we have and you are on the right track to success.

NON-MFC: Round 04
How does Schultz win medal. The commentators are laughing. At least 6 better players on the ground, if not more. Pendles for example was more influential, with many more possessions.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
As I said nearly full strength. Only Kolodjashnij is missing as a regular 23 player. Stewart and Neale both playing. Guthrie is no certainty anymore and Bruhn is no certainty. So missing 1-2 certain 23 players. We are missing Lever, Kolt, McVee, McAdam, AMW, Jeffo. All but Jeffo would expect to be in our 23 regularly.

NON-MFC: Round 04
Yep said 3-4 weeks after saying has to be minimum 2, but then increased it because of potential to cause injury.
-
NON-MFC: Round 04
Ralphy about to slam him I think.

NON-MFC: Round 04
Houston just elbowed Fogartyâs jaw. Christian has just smsâd he wonât be looking at it. Letâs see how this one goes. Jack Riewoldt just said Houston elbowed him in the jaw and now Brad Johnson has said he is in a fair bit of trouble.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Still canât get the luck. Havenât had the 2 key Defenders in the same game yet, with both missing 2 of the first 4 games. Of course Stewart is back for Cats, who are probably at full strength at home.

Well done.

Back to the dark days?
But one of those threads isnât about how bad we are playing.
