  1. Great debut season by Jack ... it would be unreasonable to have expected more. Hopefully he will be part of an elite midfield in two or three years.
  2. Generally agree with what others have said. Plenty of potential and promise, but a disappointing 2010 for the reasons outlined. I'm still unclear what Cale's long term role will be in the team. He's been given mostly defensive and tagging jobs in the last couple of years, possibly to sharpen up these aspects of his game, but I doubt that he is being groomed for these jobs long-term. More of a midfielder or forward? Attacking HBF perhaps? Could he be a KPF down the track? What do others think?
  3. Sorry Jaded but I can't agree. I'm certainly not a Judd fan, but he lifted a couple of notches in my estimation when be spoke about Jimmy and people like him being the real heroes. To me it came across as a genuine comment, and I respect him for having said it.
  4. Our hearts beat true, and long may yours Big Jim. Just as you overcame adversity on the football field, so will you overcome it on a much bigger stage.
  5. Goes missing, and drops his head far to often to fit the bill at Melbourne. I don't recall ever seing Anthony play well in a losing team, and IMO that's exactly the sort of player we should be avoiding as we build our list for the future. Anyway, as others have pointed out, he is not the big KPF that most people think we need.
  6. Bater has some critical limitations that we all know about, and which he needs to address, if he is to be a serious part of our future. Dunn has now overtaken him (at least temporarily)in the pecking order, and the ball is squarely in Bater's court to improve deficiencies his game, in much the same way that Dunny seems to have done.
  7. I said in the Cam Bruce / Gold Coast thread that there is no room for sentiment in modern list management. Same principle applies here.
  8. Like many here, I would love to see Cam Bruce as a one club player. However, (perhaps sadly), there is no room for sentiment in modern list management. A one year contract seems appropriate to me, and if warranted by form and consistency, a further deal could be struck at the end of 2011.
  9. Agree HT. Sunday's doco will be compelling viewing, but tough to watch.
  10. After the glimpses we have seen this year, I'm fully convinced that we made the right selection in early November 2008. Jack will be a very, very good AFL footballer, and a key ingredient in our climb from base camp to the summit.
  11. ..............or lose 500k. No thanks!
  12. Agreed. McKinley has nothing special to offer which would see him getting games ahead those we already have. He certainly doesn't fit the bill of a strong, marking KPF who could successfully pinch hit in the ruck.
  13. Congratulations Liam. So much untapped potential, it wouldn't surprise if he delivered GOTY an MOTY in the same year. Keep on thrilling us LJ.
  14. Didn't realise that he was the one that PJ caught. I just changed my view of him!
  15. Can't imagine that we would have any interest.
  16. A line breaker, and I like him for that reason ..... but his price tag is likely to be more than I would be comfortable with.
  17. A senior coach would be handy before they make too many decisions on their list. Ha! Ha!
  18. No thanks. Too old and too expensive. Besides, he'd never leave Carlton with his father /son connection, and the fact that he probably has the (mistaken) view that the Scum are headed for higher places.
  19. I reckon most of us on here would have picked the trifecta last night, but not necessarily got them in the correct order. Congratulations to Greeny, Chip and Rush for outstanding seasons, and many thanks to WJ for the regular updates. It must have been a great evening.
  20. Ditto. While Johnson has kicked goals, he has been inconsistent, and I can't remember a matchwinning performance from him this season. Greeny has been more consistent, has had to work harder for his goals (fewer 'gifts' from up the ground), and his goals have generally influenced the result more than Johnson's. Greeny is also more versatile, and spent some time in the mid-field / across half back during the year.
  21. 1. The Melbourne Football CLUB. I've barracked for Melbourne for 60+ years, but for the first time since our game became professional in the 1980s(?), I now feel part of a great Club rather than a supporter of a team. Thanks Jimma, CC, Schwabby, et al! 2. Feeling that we are 'a chance' in virtually every match. It sure as Hell beats going to games expecting to lose, or worse still, almost wanting to. 3. Watching the emergence of some of our talent, and knowing that we have something very special to look forward to.
