Disappointing to lose, but so many things transpired against us today (Davey injury, the weather, a couple of crucial umpiring decisions at crucial times). So proud of the boys, and so much to look forward to. My votes:
6. Sylvia
5. Bail
4. McKenzie
3. Bruce
2. Rivers
1. Frawley
yep. If I recall correctly, Ferg. was still under contract at the time so we needed his agreement for the trade to go ahead. He declined, and that was the end of it.
It's fantastic to be getting positive press. Three years ago the only news about Melbourne was about our precarious future, or the obligatory few lines about team selections on the fourth page of the sports section. I'm loving being newsworthy for all the right reasons.
Excellent article...... and for me, the best bit of all is this quote from Jimmy the fourth last para 'The key ingredient is that we are a club'. It has been a magnificent transformation in such a short space of time. I'm so proud to be a Melbourne supporter
Excellent post Dappa, and I agree wholeheartedly with most of what you have said. A question: Do you think the run-with roles that Dunny was given over the previous couple of years were a deliberate strategy to develop the defensive side of his game in anticipation of his present role, or do you think this is just coincidental?
I purchased a tile back in 2001, and received a replica which sits here beside me amongst all of my other MFC memorabilia. That more than meets my personal requirements. However, I really value DemonSG and all others who share my passion for the Melbourne Football Club, and are/were prepared to part with their hard-earned to support the Club in tough times.
They reported on Canberra radio that Beamer had injured a quad at training on Friday. Not sure about reliability, but if it's accurate it seems like a new injury.
Schwaby has done an outstanding job at the helm. Thank God Jimma and the Board had the courage to remove Paul McNamee only a short time into his contract. I imagine it cost us money (which we couldn't afford at the time), but in my wildest dreams I can't imagine the the Melbourne Football Club being in the position it is in today with McNamee as CEO.
Only Jimmy really knows, but my guess is that its more likely to be his love for the Melbourne Football Club, and gratitude for the opportunity it afforded him to make a life in this great country.
