  1. ........ and Martin, who has a long, long way to go, but is still well ahead of PJ IMO, based on his relative youth and far greater versatility.
  2. It was interesting listening to ABC radio yesterday afternoon, when Stan Alves and Chris Grant rated teams on a scale of E to A on their season so far, compared to what their expectations had been at the start of the year. A rating of 'C' was the pass mark. Stan rated Melbourne as B+ and Chris rated us B. Not surprisingly, both praised our back-half and midfield, but commented that our forward set-up (primarily meaning Jack Watts) is still a couple of years away. No mention was made of the current forward line absentees, LJ or Ricky Petterd.
  3. That's one of the reasons I see it as a very important game ........ we need to give this psyscological hoodoo a giant kick up the backside. Putting it to rest once and for all will make us mentally stronger in the future, when winning games at AAMI might be crucial to finals, or dare I say it, premiership chances!
  4. Another great read Jack. I remember those days of 1965 only too well. It was the second time in my life that I can honestly say I felt devastated by things to do with football. The first was in September 1958, but strangely, even that didn't hit me as hard as the great Norm Smith's fall from grace at the Melbourne Football Club. Sadly there have been many disappointments since those times ...... but never enough to sully my undying passion for the mighty Demons. I am now more confident about the future prosperity of our team than at any time since the heady days of the late 1950s and early 60s. Absolutely, "the line has been drawn and the times are a changing again".
  5. Thanks graz ... my grey matter is obviously deteriorating faster than I would like. Suffice to say that the injury to Ox snuffed out a brilliant career just as it was getting started. He was destined to be regarded in the same light as Carey and other great CHFs IMO.
  6. If I remember correctly, it was at Lavington Oval in Albury.
  7. Welocome Bhima ... good first post! I don't want to become embroiled in a debate about the pros and cons of pokies, but I would certainly add 'community' to your strong list of positives. Our work with the Breast Cancer Network Australia, the Trachoma initiative and the excellent work we are doing on a range of fronts in and around Casey are just a few examples.
  8. Agree R24. I have to admit to being uncertain until this year, but from what I have seen and heard of his work, both on and off the field, I'm now convinced that he would be my choice when Junior steps aside.
  9. How time flies .... it doesn't seem that long ago that Danny played his few games for the Dees. I like, and agree with the general sentiment expressed in the article, but I don't entirely agree with the list of players mentioned as forming the nucleus from which our team will develop.
  10. Great book, and a well worn and treasured posession of mine. I have lent it to several people who were going through tough times and they all found it inspirational, just like the man himself.
  11. Welcome DeeStarr. Really appreciate info from 'inside'the Club, where appropriate.
  12. That's exactly how I see it.
  13. No need to watch the replay Nasher. You are spot on!
  14. I doubt that very many around here will disagree with you jayceebee. I just hope that the recent rumours about 'Rush' signing on for a further two years are well founded.
  15. They were handed out to participants in the 'Walk to the G', and you are right, they looked great in the crowd.
  16. We are with you all the way Jimma. Looking forward to seeing you holding a Premiership Cup aloft.
  17. I was lucky enough to have a great discussion with Cam Schwab and Don McLardy before yesterday's 'walk to the G'. I mentioned that I was really looking forward to the release of the new Emblem, and Cam just happened to have a copy in his pocket. He gave me a 'sneak preview' and talked me through the design. All I can say is that IMO it brilliantly captures the magnificent history of our great club over the journey, while remaining simple and 'un-cluttered' to the eye. I know I'm a bit biased, but I reckon it will be the envy of every other club in the AFL. Cam added that there is still a bit of fine-tuning to be done (eg. to ensure that the Emblem fits easilg onto various background colours etc.) and it will not be released until late in the year.
  18. Agree ... they are developing a great understanding. First time I can recall an on-ball working relationship like this at MFC for a very long time!
  19. Just got back from Melbourne. My belated votes: 6. Moloney 5. Jamar 4. Davey 3. Frawley 2. Garland 1. Bruce
  20. No offence Vagg, but Geoff Tunbridge (Barrie's predecessor on the HFF) more than had his measure.
  21. Flying down from Canberra. Havn't missed a QB match since I can't remember when. Love the 'walk to the G', and I give us an outside chance. Go Dees!
  22. 6. Moloney 5. Gysberts 4. Jamar 3. Grimes 2. McDonald 1. Jetta
  23. Not ready in terms of physique or experience for KPF at this stage, but we don't have too many options right now. Jack was no worse than Millsey today, and he already has a man's body and is in his eighth season.
  24. I couldn't agree more JJC! As an aside, I remember having several very enjoyable post-match chats with Dicko back in the days when they threw the doors of the MFC dressing rooms open to supporters after the game, and players were 're-hydrating' with VB before taking a shower. They were also the days when players and supporters alike joined in singing both verses of the Grand Old Flag.
