Families of Demons who died too young say their hearts still beat true.
So much recent tragedy. I hadn't thought about it until it was pointed out recently. I know the team has been poor, the finances strained, the reputation in tatters - but we have always been a strong club cared for by well meaning people. Failure is also a great galvaniser...

What would a premiership mean to you?
It would mean a mixture of excitement, relief and release. I will be happy and excited for myself after watching 07 - 09 every week before I came up here and then coming down for 4 games a year for 10 - 13 was an embarrassment shielded by the fact that I could hide from it in Canberra. 2014 was a triumphant year for my own footy and also for the Demons with Paul Roos setting the stage for a club rebuilt. I will be relieved for my dad, who 25 years ago did Ian Ridley a favour and lost so much from his friends who adjudged him for over a decade. Still he helped organise the Bentleigh club purchase all those years later that has hopefully set us up for the next two decades⦠And the release will be for all of you who have stuck by this club through thin waiting for the thick. Some commentators are arguing that to talk about dynasties is premature as if they donāt realise that they are only responding to their comperes when it comes to that talk. But I would love to be relevant for the next 5-7 years and I think we can. I think we can make the top 4 and have a sustained challenge at the flag - and wonāt that be something.

Daisy Pearce wins AFL Media Association Best Opinion / Analyst Award (thread update)
She is very good. Granted, it isn't difficult to look insightful next to BT and DArcy but she knows the game and brings to fore the most pertinent aspects of the game. As opposed to David King who plays 5 Dimensional chess against himself every week.

Medals for All?
This should happen. And a culture change will happen after - there will be those that have been trained by society that if you arenāt there on the day you arenāt worth the time of day. I would either go with all people in the FD or have a 5 game quota or something like that. The coaches deserve it and for those that say it will demean the medal for the 23 that played - thatās society training you. They donāt do anything alone, none of us do.

āWeāve got a special bondā: Hibberd playing for the Essendon 34 - and his brother
Have you met many Essendon fans? Glibs aside, IDGAF about that episode in another clubs experience. My point boils down to we arenāt in a position to deny Hibberdās lived experience and what his reaction would be to his suceess Saturday week. rp out

Same with Jack Trengove? The Essendon fans are anything but victims. You trust your employers and they lost a lot from that trust. The MFC right now is built itās success of 2021 on the easily lost and difficult to build up idea of trust and if you didnāt feel for the players during that fiasco - I think you should reflect on that. Especially considering Goodwin was also āon the gearā as he said.

āWeāve got a special bondā: Hibberd playing for the Essendon 34 - and his brother
Live and let live. Melksham and Hibberd have that history and treatment by Essendon and then by WADA and the media. That is their history as much as any player having a grief filled past, or any personal challenge. Donāt forget that the real victims in the Essendrug scandal were the players. And your last bit is way OTT.

The Curfew
Is it really a curfew? They are not on holidays. They would be home at this time on a weeknight anyway when you are still working⦠If some of the players are calling it a curfew I would be disappointed. Footy players hey.

Geelong could do worse. Geelong have done worse. Good luck to him - it will be so tough to break in because it is really only Fritsch's medium forward role that he can play in our better teams. I am sure we would be upfront with him and right now is when all the clubs are talking to players so his agent should be doing the same for him.

CHANGES: GF vs Bulldogs
Hunt being the sub is interesting - but if you want that run - then just play him. His defensive work is much better and will provide another option to go to Weightman and will make him work the other way.
-
Sam Weideman re-signs until 2023
Letting Petty establish himself as a defender is essential for his confidence as an AFL player - I wouldn't move him for 2022.
