GRAND FINAL: Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs
Felt it up here in Canberra. Hearing reports it just opened up the gates of hell. Fitting it was under Mt Buller. The demons and fallen angels are arriving for the big game at the G. Someone else can tell them...

The Ollie Whines Lounge
Sliding doors moment. The alternate reality with Wines perhaps doesn’t have Oliver… How’s that for a nightmare ‘What If???’

Nathan Jones On The Couch tonight.
Remember it as the Melbourne footy club who made that decision… It was the darkest nadir that led us to rock bottom and eventually out and up to where we are now.

Nathan Jones On The Couch tonight.
Riewoldt is great after footy. Honest, funny and cogent. Brown is the first two but tends to eat and chew on any word with more than two syllables.

Nathan Jones On The Couch tonight.
Jones played in over 200 losses. The juxtaposition is there, CB. People are going to bring it up - we were a [censored] basket case.

Big Ben Brown’s Wild Ride
Not sure about that. Brown, Fritsch, TMac and Kozzie will share the bags around. The price of playing in a multi dimensional forward line.

rpfc's Schadenfreude Corner
I thought we could kick off GF week with a happy story that all can get behind and embrace. Sing songs together over a wonderful happening that we will get to enjoy soon... The demise of Geelong. For a few years at least... We have seen our rise built on the backs of top 40 ND picks that we have nailed, and avoided trading out where we could. Geelong on the other hand... Top 40 ND picks 2012 ND16 Thurlow 2013 ND16 Lang ND36 Jansen 2014 ND10 Cockatoo Trade ND21 Stanley 2015 Trade ND9 & ND28 Dangerfield Trade ND17* Henderson 2016 Trade ND15* Touhy ND26 Parfitt ND40 Stewart 2017 Trade ND19 & ND30* Ablett ND22 Fogarty ND24 Kelly ND36 Constable 2018 ND15 Clark 2019 ND16 Stephens ND19 De Konig Trade ND37 Jenkins 2020 Trade ND12 & ND15 & ND18 Cameron ND20 Holmes ND33 Neale *Future Pick Mature Age Trade Failed Pick/Player not at club Successful Pick The 4 kids inside the top 40 in the last two drafts have played 13 games, of which Holmes has played 12 - a perfectly fine defensive HBF (another way of saying he doesn't have any tricks). They lucked out with Stewart in 2016 and that is it, there have been a few role players like Miers, Henry, and Smith that they acquired later in the draft process or UFA. They potentially got a new start with Kelly going to WCE, but turned that 3 picks in the top 20 windfall into a lead up 'flanker' forward that needs a bigger bodied FF beside him to function. Their list is aging and has very little below to replace those that are to move on soon. They have epitomised the idea of constantly topping up and relying on your stars to win you big games - but when those stars retire... List? Meet Cliff.

Families of Demons who died too young say their hearts still beat true.
So much recent tragedy. I hadn't thought about it until it was pointed out recently. I know the team has been poor, the finances strained, the reputation in tatters - but we have always been a strong club cared for by well meaning people. Failure is also a great galvaniser...

What would a premiership mean to you?
It would mean a mixture of excitement, relief and release. I will be happy and excited for myself after watching 07 - 09 every week before I came up here and then coming down for 4 games a year for 10 - 13 was an embarrassment shielded by the fact that I could hide from it in Canberra. 2014 was a triumphant year for my own footy and also for the Demons with Paul Roos setting the stage for a club rebuilt. I will be relieved for my dad, who 25 years ago did Ian Ridley a favour and lost so much from his friends who adjudged him for over a decade. Still he helped organise the Bentleigh club purchase all those years later that has hopefully set us up for the next two decades… And the release will be for all of you who have stuck by this club through thin waiting for the thick. Some commentators are arguing that to talk about dynasties is premature as if they don’t realise that they are only responding to their comperes when it comes to that talk. But I would love to be relevant for the next 5-7 years and I think we can. I think we can make the top 4 and have a sustained challenge at the flag - and won’t that be something.

The Dramatic Rise of Clayton Oliver
Interesting insight into how direct Goodwin is as the FD drove standards.

Daisy Pearce wins AFL Media Association Best Opinion / Analyst Award (thread update)
She is very good. Granted, it isn't difficult to look insightful next to BT and DArcy but she knows the game and brings to fore the most pertinent aspects of the game. As opposed to David King who plays 5 Dimensional chess against himself every week.

Medals for All?
This should happen. And a culture change will happen after - there will be those that have been trained by society that if you aren’t there on the day you aren’t worth the time of day. I would either go with all people in the FD or have a 5 game quota or something like that. The coaches deserve it and for those that say it will demean the medal for the 23 that played - that’s society training you. They don’t do anything alone, none of us do.

‘We’ve got a special bond’: Hibberd playing for the Essendon 34 - and his brother
Have you met many Essendon fans? Glibs aside, IDGAF about that episode in another clubs experience. My point boils down to we aren’t in a position to deny Hibberd’s lived experience and what his reaction would be to his suceess Saturday week. rp out

Same with Jack Trengove? The Essendon fans are anything but victims. You trust your employers and they lost a lot from that trust. The MFC right now is built it’s success of 2021 on the easily lost and difficult to build up idea of trust and if you didn’t feel for the players during that fiasco - I think you should reflect on that. Especially considering Goodwin was also ‘on the gear’ as he said.

Live and let live. Melksham and Hibberd have that history and treatment by Essendon and then by WADA and the media. That is their history as much as any player having a grief filled past, or any personal challenge. Don’t forget that the real victims in the Essendrug scandal were the players. And your last bit is way OTT.

Yes it is something to be wary about.
