I’m surprised by the lack of love for Jones. There was a period in the last quarter, where it looked as though Freo were going to challenge us and we threw Jones into the middle. He won the ball and rather than stuffing around with it , like Oliver, he drove it deep inside 50 to advantage. A couple minutes later he was instrumental in another goal ... he still has a bit to offer

I’m one that questioned the selection of Jimmy Jordan. I am more than happy to admit I was wrong. Thought he was brilliant today. Really liked his game

Freo reckon both Darcy and Tabener are right to play. They’ve said they will consider throwing a tall back up forward, clearly realising that Tom McDonald is no threat and Luke Jackson is still a kid. Looks like our selection is playing into their hands. A weak forward line means we will struggle, as we will kick wide to the pockets to Fritsch who will take 9/10 shots from the 3rd row of the pocket.

By round 7 Goodwin may be out of a job. I can’t believe they picked up Daw because he was soon as way to replenish our lost talls, but even after kicking four goals, we hear that he isn’t ready for selection and is a long term prospect. Goodwin must really not want to keep his job.

I certainly hope Harmes is in. With Viney out and Jordan playing his first game, on the back of ordinary (being polite) preseason form, this has the potential to backfire on the selection Committee. I’m sorry, but Jordan must have trained the house down to have warranted selection. You can’t tell me he was picked based on the way he played in either preseason game.

I’ll back the kid in, but can see why posters are sceptical. He played an ordinary game against the Doggies, so I’m guessing that his selection is based on training standards.

It would have been nice to see an updated jumper design from NB. They’ve been using the same template for a number of years now. It doesn’t really encourage sales. I am not advocating a change to the jumper itself, but subtle changes to the physical design help with sales of jerseys. if the NB site is accurate, it looks as though the MCC logo is now on the rear of the retail versions of the jumper. That’s assuming it’s accurate. Previously, it was only on the player issues

I know it’s VFL, but if Majak has booted 4 goals and dominated the ruck, we may just have a rd 1 bolter on our hands. In all likelihood they’ll select Jackson and TMac, but the latter does not cut it as a forward. Jackson took some nice grabs against the Doggies, but was playing a long way from goal. I would really like a genuine tall at FF, just to provide a contest. I’m not sure the TMAC or Jackson can offer that. It’s a big game this. We need a good start to the year as the first month is a challenge. I’d be rolling the dice on Majak

Yep just heard Max Gawn on SEN say Daw isn’t likely to be seen for the first part of the season. I initially thought he was considered as we’d lost our forwards to injury. So if he isn’t playing in first few rounds when our main forwards are missing, what’s the point? I’m now fairly annoyed by this signing.
