  1. I like the idea of them casting votes before sighting stats and then getting the opportunity to review/amend their votes in light of the stats. Helps avoid stats-bias in their instinctive decision but also allows them to correct any howlers that perhaps they got wrong because their mind was elsewhere in the game (ie officiating it).
  2. Had a lunch once with Dillon, Gill and others senior people in the AFL (as part of a partnership agreement). I was seated next to Dillon and the late Ray Gunston - both lovely blokes and very friendly. Gil, on the other hand, was arrogant and rude. Hope Dillon gets a decent crack at it, a significantly better human than the last two blokes in the chair.
  3. No, we wouldn’t, but with talk now on this thread that Adam Tomlinson might be the solution up forward I am beginning to worry we’re entering a terrifying phase of Melbourne Football Club Supporter Forward Line Concern Syndrome.
  4. Our game plan isn’t based on Max taking marks. Our game plan is actually based on ball coming to ground and contested possession, of which Max’s ruckwork is the starting point. The marks are a bonus.
  5. Let’s just say I didn’t have AFL recruiters knocking down my door. For all of his shortcomings at the top level, Brent was actually a fairly handy junior footballer
  6. Our lack of fight at the right time in important matches of recent memory is the thing that is worrying me most at the moment… we’re hungry and brave in the first five minutes and then go cold when the game is on the line. Glad someone thinks this is easy to fix. I couldn’t think of anything harder to fix. Silver lining I suppose but the 15 minutes we play poorly seems to be the most important 15 minutes of games.
  7. Going to be hard playing from the back pocket! Brent Grgic kicked 10 on me from a half back flank in school footy once… I chalked it up as a ‘learning opportunity”
  8. @binman Would also love a direct comparison of our midfield setup/positions last night vs. finals in 2023 and also vs. that practice match against Carlton where it felt like Salem and Kossie ran through the guts more
  9. I think you missed my point. I’m not arguing whether it is mental or not, I am suggesting there might be a better game plan than playing all of our cards in the first 10 minutes if there is mourning evidence it doesn’t work for us
  10. One perhaps for Senor @binman: It feels like is we’ve become pretty good at jumping teams early with contested possession and forward thrusts, but with the 5-10 mins of dominance yielding no scoreboard pressure. Is it possible to look at pressure rating for parts of a quarter - i.e first 5 mins - for the Sydney match and then our two pre-season matches? Starting to feel we may well be better off reserving some gas early parts of a match and picking off the opposition like they do us.
  11. I think the view was tough draw (Sydney, Adel and Port away and then Doggies and Bris in there too) + important players still to come back
  12. I’m holding. Our bottom third were poor tonight. Laurie, Schache, chandler, etc. I think Billings sub was an error but only a minor one. Our bottom 1/3 was our strength in the premiership year. Not too concerned about our ability to claw that back in the next few weeks. I’ve heard from a reputable source the club would be VERY happy to be 3/3 after first 6 rounds so buckle in legends .
  13. I hold grave concerns for my neighbours’ eardrums (and the gaggle of beers in my fridge) come 7.30pm this evening.
  14. AFL.com.au’s predicted Sydney backline; Lloyd. McCartin. Rampe Florent. Blakey. Jordon They are tiny. And that is weird. Never been a fan of using a tall as a sub but on a small ground I’d be throwing everything in the height bucket against these smurfs. edit. Looking a bit more closely at their predicted side, it appears the work experience kid might’ve been thrown this one.
  15. I know Ben. He’s more of a ‘vibe’ guy than a ‘data points’ guy
  16. Going to be a mouth-watering contest for the 500 in the crowd
  17. reducing the penalty by 1 week (from the AFL’s requested 8) is the most arbitrary thing I’ve seen for a while.
  18. Selfishly, I’m not looking forward to the drafting and recruiting chaos it will cause. The whole league gets shaken up to introduce a new team and I’m not in love with the idea of doing this for a team that’ll be all of the locals’ “2nd favourite team”. Having said all of that, I think it is a wise choice for future economic benefit in the state and will benefit the next generation. Early years will be strange though.
  19. It does seem odd that they would ‘ask about his availability’ in February, a 23yo premiership player who has just dominated a practice match. What do they expect Melbourne to say “sure, yep, we’ve been thinking about getting rid of him anyway”. Either made up story or Adelaide just leak this stuff to put pressure on Melbourne ahead of contract negotiations, still seeking retribution for the loss of Lever.
  20. I didn’t realise the offer to Petty was so big… and from memory Adelaide were insinuating a Petty-for-McAdam swap would be about right?
  21. Stunned this is still in ‘talks’. Melbourne: “please exempt his salary from our cap or we’ll begin talking about our concerns that the AFL isn’t doing enough to protect our players’ wellbeing” AFL: “sounds fair. Help yourself to some mentos on the way out”
  22. I’ve been on Demonland for quite a few years now and I have no idea what this thread is about? 🤣 Would welcome an explanation (wrong answers also welcome) 🙏
  23. Excuse the naivety but what does ‘being near the bottom of the ladder’ mean? Is it that we have fewer positive results from tests or fewer tests in total?
  24. Yes. Perhaps we could release a dog on the field for Maynard on King’s birthday?
