GAMEDAY: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
Gawndy the Great replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Momentum has turned big time. Pies made up their tackle deficit in one quarter. Their pressure is immense and we are crumbling. -
GAMEDAY: Rd 21 vs Collingwood

Not sure how this is looking on TV but the Pies are extraordinarily lucky in conversion. We have been very wasteful in front of goal. Should have put this game to bed already. Forward pressure is way off tonight and Kozzy, Spargs and ANB do not look involved at all. Pies are playing fast break footy. Surprised that they are still full of zip. -
Outnumbered in the crowd. Disappointing Dees turn out.

Rain should clear somewhat by game time. but this is probably what it will feel like getting there. -
There should be some compensation for trading coaching staff i reckon. 😀

Im hearing that the rest has really given him a boost - "haven't felt this good for 14 or 15 weeks". Hopefully that translates with some hard leading and a few snags. He is due for a halfa dozen isnt he?

Listened to it live and was initially thinking what else is he going to say about Ross Lyon and then bang he lets go of this nugget. Why, why, why Ed? Hopefully he plays a game to back up his statements, because they will be coming for him for sure. I cant see how a single statement alters the result of a game, but still id prefer we no longer give Lingers the mic.
-
he's ready to have a crack and the Giants will have some talent to work with. But no doubt they are a bit of a basket case right now with salary cap imbalances. Hopefully he can facilitate a trade with MFC with some player swaps.
-
He’s non reaction to Trac was rather peculiar but then again he did initiate an off the ball jab.

Darcy will become the dominant tap ruckman once Gawn retires. on his current trajectory he will be the front runner to snag a few AA. If we can snare him in the LJ trade with Freos 1st round pick, I think you take that trade and never look back. Under Max’s tutelage, Darcy can become an even better player, lose some kegs and build a massive tank. If we can then get a hold of the Lions 1st pick via a pick swap, we maybe able to get into the top 5 and snare a KPF.

Anything beyond 20 years is irrelevant given a number of factors. But my point was largely based on the last 20 years of footy. If you look back at the recent Lions, Hawks and Tiger dynasties, only the Hawks finished top of the ladder once in a premiership year. aside from those specific teams, the top position team has only won it ~20% of the time (in the last 20 years). That is more relevant to me than what happened in the 1920s. So statistically speaking - and i think this matters considering who is on top right now - the best H&A team is unlikely to be the best finals team (unless of course you are the 2021 premiers)
-
I think there is a very strong chance of this happening. My sense is that the Pies are really struggling with fitness as they are a young side and will naturally be fatiguing at this time of year. Will be a intense Q1 but cant see this one going down to the wire.
-
stats will also tell you that it is incredibly rare for the team that finished top of the ladder to be the premiers. So all in all, i'd be happy with finishing 2nd.

Also looks like Mason keeps his spot as Grundy is all but ruled out. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/grundy-setback-for-magpies-blue-blow-with-newman-out-north-s-tough-decision-20220803-p5b6wa.html

Howe probably won’t make it so at least no MOTY nominations on top of Maxy’s head.
-
I know it’s probably not in Brad Scott’s control but whats a bet his brother has asked him for a favour to have this rule repealed? 😂
-
We just have to recruit Lobb now!
-
Not a chance. The future of the Doggies will be Naughton and JUH up forward. Darcy will play down back. Bruce has probably 1-2 seasons left. If they get Lobb as reported he’ll play as the second tall leaving JUH to do some major damage as a roaming HF.

Eddie Betts opens up on the weird camp
Gawndy the Great replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
It does sound wacko but If it had of worked theses we’d be singing it’s praises I suppose. -
Oliver Henry from the Pies is out of contract. The kid is pretty talented and doubt that the Pies would let him go. Worth reaching out to his management and asking the question. Straight swap for Weid :D
-
Not sure whether its been said, and it is quite obvious, but we have received the least # free kicks in the comp and its only our ability to have the 2nd least freekicks against (#1 bulldogs) that puts us in the middle of the table. No wonder i hate umpires.

Should Jack Viney be captain again?
Gawndy the Great replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jack is the model captain of era's gone by. The new bread of footballer is different now and doesn't always respond well to his leadership style, which is built on intensity, focus and uncompromising effort. As others have said, he makes the perfect Sergeant, 2nd in command. But the captaincy now has a more public profile in addition to onfield leadership, which is perfectly suited to Max's character and leadership style. When Max retires, it will be between Lever & Brayshaw, but who knows who the playing group looks up to beyond Max and Jack.
