  1. Plenty of one kick losses against the Roos over the years so I'll happily take the W tonight. Also because the next W might be a ways off.
  2. I tend to visualise a place on how nice sounding it's name is only to find it's nothing like that in real life (eg the Canary Islands). St Albans sounds like the bucolic English commuter town it's named after but I live close enough to know that's not entirely accurate. On moving to Canterbury, in Kent a while back we went for a drive to Margate on Christmas Day to find a post apocalyptic seaside town housing refugees in run down terrace houses. It now has a Turner Contemporary gallery and a thriving creative and foodie scene though. Sittingbourne is a nice sounding place that is pretty horrible. Grimsby on the north east coast however is exactly as it say's on the tin.
  3. To be fair you could praise an orangutan for it's intelligence if you sat it next to Robbo most nights.
  4. Mick Malthouse is the ghost of football past.
  5. I don't know why this conversation still has legs. We gave up a second round pick and his wage was partly subsidised. It didn't work out and we moved him on for a second round pick. The only slightly embarrassing part of it all was Goody declaring that he was now at a club that valued him.
  6. With our current % we'll likely have to go 7-3 in the games we have left to fall into the eight. As we're Melbourne we'll win 6 of them then get rolled by Collingwood in the last game as they lock in a top 2 spot and we miss finals on %.
  7. Why does anyone give a FF what Whateley or any other mouth for hire thinks about our club?
  8. Can the mods change the thread title to MFC Season 2024 Over please?
  9. Not sure which thread to write on as pretty much every one of them has ended up in some sort of pile-on about the coaches, management or players. The last month has been frustrating to watch because I still think that our very best beats everybody else's very best. As I understand it we attempted a change of game plan pre-season to try and create a more open and less congested forward line but for whatever reason it was found not to be working and based on yesterday's game we seem to have gone back to the more front half territory type game we've played in recent years. Or at least a hybrid version of it. Perhaps not coincidentally the fall off in our performances over this time has been dramatic and it's going to take a reversal equally as dramatic to turn our season around. For what it's worth I think our finals aspirations are now toast but I hope I'm wrong. Trac, one of only three consistent performers this year alongside Max and Nibbler will likely be out for weeks.
  10. We had a lot of the ball but turnovers and inaccuracy killed us today, not the opposition. That was completely self inflicted.
  11. Fair play to Goody for opening up. He has every reason never to speak to the press.
  12. It's worked once already!
  13. Well done Kangas. Only Collingwood should ever go through a season winless.
  14. Loyalty is a rare thing in today's game so you have to admire him for that. Maybe we'll see him in red & blue four years from now when both his knees are shot.
  15. In what parallel universe are GWS averaging 24k a game?
  16. I don't believe that selling our home game to the NT is costing us wins. Yesterday's game would have been played at Marvel if it wasn't at Traeger. If Richmond and Collingwood can't get 11 home games at the MCG what makes anyone think we would? Yesterday we would have lost by 92 points at Docklands in front of 10,000 people. Instead the club made $800,000 in appearance fees.
  17. I agree with other posters that the loss could be season defining. Freo can be just a flakey as us and I though we could still turn it around in the second half if we wrestled back the initiative but the boys just gave up. I turned off midway through the 3rd.
  18. Has anyone ever changed their mission statement mid-season ? #DemonSpirit
  19. I reckon supporters of both sides will be wondering which version of their own team will turn up today. Or not turn up.
  20. In sporting terms it’s like hearing that the second cousin once removed of your neighbour up the road has died. The three people that followed them must be devastated.
  21. Yup. I watched Jim play up until the early nineties but never saw Jeff White either.
  22. We're so lucky to have Max. I lived overseas for 20 years and never saw Dean Cox play. The only other ruckman I'd rate alongside him is Simon Madden who was a far better forward.
  23. If the Saints are less than six goals up by the time we wake up half way through the second I'm confident we'll run them down.
  24. Annoying when you're looking forward to watching some football on a Friday night only to find out Collingwood are playing.
