Your story reminded me of when I was a kid back home and one summer we had the Gordon Highlander regiment (which doesn't exist any more) practicing manoeuvres in our town before being deployed in Northern Ireland at the height of the troubles. I remember one of them hiding behind a hedge in our front garden in full gear with a rifle. Nowadays army manoeuvres in Dandenong would be good practice for deployment in Afghanistan.

I wonder if the ground he was being filmed at was Shepley Oval, home of the old Dandenong Redlegs. Interesting how places like Dandenong and Rowville are considered to be Vic Country for representative footy. Maybe the boundary is based on the first edition of the Melways.
