GOODBYE MITCH CLARK
Bang Bang Bang replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd be very surprised if he went to another club. There are no quotes that say his comeback won't be with Melbourne, just that he's in good shape and likely to attempt a comeback. My guess is that Barrett is trying to drum up interest in the story by saying it won't be with Melbourne. He may be proven right of course, but it wouldn't make much sense at all. -
What's 1 draft pick we have nailed in the past 10 years?
Bang Bang Bang replied to The Stigga's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't care if he's leaving, we clearly nailed the Frawley pick in 2006. At the time I was filthy we didn't take James Sellar, who went to the Crows two picks later. Just sayin... -
GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Bang Bang Bang replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought the same thing about Geelong when Rivers went there but here we are 2 years on and they're still winning and comfortably making finals. I put it down to a winning culture and easily the best fixture-deal of any club. MASSIVE home ground advantage at Kardinia Park, and not much of a disadvantage (in terms of support) when playing in Melbourne. -
So what? What the Bulldogs decide to do should take nothing away from Cross. It's no different to what Chapman's done at the Bombers. Do you think Essendon fans will call patronise and refer to him as a "Geelong reject" when he finishes Top 5 in their B&F?

Oh dear...

It was a season of two halves. The first half: B+ The second half: F If we swapped the two halves around, and had finished the season with wins over Adelaide, Richmond and Essendon, then we'd be a lot more optimistic going into 2015. Unfortunately for us, the game is 22 games and any good work we did early in the year was completely rubbed out by our horrible final stretch. It's a D- overall for me.
-
Both of them would be walk-up starts in our side. Let's not kid ourselves. The only concern here would be Robinson's off-field problems.

At the start of the year I was very much in the 'Clisby over Terlich' camp when we were debating best 22. Clearly the coaches thought differently and we never really got to see what he was made of. Nicholson, well his lack of skill was always going to cut his career short, but he showed plenty of early promise (including a fantastic game in a win over Richmond in 2011. Oh, those were the days!) and always gave his all. Not surprised with either delisting but good luck to them both.

GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Bang Bang Bang replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree that his body language has been appalling. But I would hate to see the AFL go down the Rugby League path of players announcing their departure before the season is out. Just don't think it would work, and there would be far too much pressure on the coaches to not select that player. Imagine if Frawley had announced he was leaving in Rd 11? How would the club and the fans react? We wouldn't want him to be picked in the ones, but is it fair on Frawley to have to play in the VFL when he's clearly an AFL-standard player? Anyway I echo the thoughts of those that a) believe he is going and b) don't begrudge him for it. -
If anyone thinks re-signing Riley was....
Bang Bang Bang replied to Leoncelli_36's topic in Melbourne Demons
He works hard and is ferocious. He can also get the footy. These attributes aren't that easy to find and for that I think he deserves a spot on the list in 2015. But he clearly has no idea what to do with it when he gets it. And his kicking skills are below A-grade amateur level. 2015 will make or break him. I personally agreed with Tony Shaw when he said, you kick like Riley and you won't play much AFL. -
I should also mention that Michie looks really good. He has a cool head on his shoulders. And that stands out like a beacon in this side. He will be a regular next year, I reckon.

Beaten comfortably against North's B-team. A team that was in self-preservation mode and couldn't be bothered celebrating their goals. Carved up by no-names Ben Brown, Mason Wood and Kane Turner. There were some good signs but we are so far off the pace it ain't funny. And there is no evidence of it getting better any time soon. No amount of pre-season spin will get me excited for 2015. Will just wait and let the results speak for themselves. Some positives - Dean Kent could be a genuine star with more consistency. And I'd argue Dom Tyson is mighty close to already being one. Bring on the cricket.
-
I hate North too, but surely you must support them against Essendrug next week.
-
Bail: Good call, definitely deserves an extension. You don't go from playing virtually every game one minute to getting the arse the next. Riley: Was on a one-year contract, and has done enough to earn another year on the list. I'll be disappointed if it's more than that though. Terlich: Not sure about this one. Don't think he's up to it.
-
He was involved in two successful regimes (Sydney and St.Kilda) before he came here. So, one would assume he didn't suddenly lose his knowledge overnight. I don't think it's his fault the players are mentally fragile and used to losing (which effects running out games). I also think we've had a pretty good run with soft tissue injuries in recent times. Misson's not the problem.
-
What's all the fuss about with this kid? All I can see with him is that he was once pick 12 and shown very little in two years. If you could get him cheap, sure, go for it. But if talking about early round picks then wouldn't you be better served trying your luck on another tall in this draft?
-
Bontempelli didn't have that much hype in his U/18 year. I seem to remember the journos who follow the draft (the Emma Quayle, Jay Clark types) thinking pick 4 was a reach. Wines was a similar story the year before. Anyway, I guess my point is that even in this day and age top 10 picks are still a complete lottery. As for Salem, I would have thought he's the least of our worries. Strange thread.

It's also a worrying sign that a diehard like myself was totally non-plussed at being unable to see the game. I'm sure there are countless other diehards in the same boat, completely disinterested. How are we going to get members next year? Last off-season we had Paul Roos giving us hope. What do we have this time?
-
I didn't see the game, I normally stream the game overseas but my internet was down yesterday. Anyway, I first checked the score when it was 24-0, rolled my eyes, and didn't bother checking again until the end. Rolled my eyes again. I saw a tweet that our percentage this year is actually worse than under Neeld in 2012. One really has to wonder when the pain will end, if ever.

Who was the last successful coach to be plucked from the media? Can think of a lot of failures and a couple of "[censored]-teasers" (G.Lyon and now Ling) only.
-
What's wrong with it being on the table? Dom Tyson has been one of our best trade week signings ever, and is only going to improve. Why not test the waters again?

Roos' Post game press conference
Bang Bang Bang replied to champagne football's topic in Melbourne Demons
Matt Jones has 2 years remaining on his contract. I kid you not. -
Would love to know what has gone wrong since the Port game in Alice Springs. We looked like knocking off the best team in the competition at the time and had already knocked up 3 gutsy wins. It was at that point you got the feeling that the penny had finally dropped and this side was going to match it with anyone. Barely 2 months on and now this? All the good work done earlier in season has been undone with today's travesty putting a bit fat exclamation mark on it.
-
We can often be a bit melodramatic in the immediate aftermath of a bad loss, but let's make no mistake here. The club is on life support.

The fans who are there today after 8 straight years of this crap deserve a medal. I don't blame them for booing. Not when the same losers keep serving up the same tripe week after week. Enough is enough.
