Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Bang Bang Bang replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm really hoping ASADA has enough evidence and the players get suspended. If they don't, the smugness of that football club will be too much to handle. Take Slobbo's tweet from a few days back as a reference. "Perfect storm for ASADA and AFL if case falls over, as expected, and Hird wins fed court appeal declaring investigation unlawful #uhoh" Multiply this smugness by a million if the Bombers actually get off. -
Luke Ablett on what faces the new draftees
Bang Bang Bang replied to Elusive Tunbridge's topic in Melbourne Demons
AFL footballers have it better than 99% of the world's population. Ablett can use any amount of fancy words and spin that he likes, but it's hard to have any sympathy for them what-so-ever. -
Strauss, Blease, Tapscott: End of an era
Bang Bang Bang replied to bing181's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure about that. Strauss was considered a reach at 19 (was expected to go in the 30s). Tapscott was in the first round of most media (and BigFooty) phantom drafts, and was considered a steal if anything. I'm not sure where the 'real' recruiters rated them, but not many people do. -
I reckon Jon Ralph trawls Demonland as virtually all of his questions have been discussed on here, ad nauseam, this year. There may have been a negative tone to the questions but what do you expect when the club has consistently poor. Some nice responses from Roos too. I cringed a bit when I saw the title (heard it all before) but that was a good interview.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ANGUS BRAYSHAW
Bang Bang Bang replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
Steady on. Joel Selwood is already one of the best players of the decade, one of the truly elite players running around and his career is only at the halfway point. Brayshaw looks very good but so have most early picks once upon a time. Temper those expectations! -

That smother was epic! Imagine him doing something like that in front of the members. Tackles with intent too. Going to be a fan favourite pretty quickly I reckon. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I bet you're a happy camper tonight! Time will tell how good Petracca becomes but if he is anywhere near the Wines/D.Martin hybrid like he's pumped up to be, I CANNOT WAIT to see him in action. -
Interesting as we would have been able to get him with #12 had Trengove not failed his medical. Suddenly that story looks a lot more believable than the Dangerfield one!

I'm a huge cricket fan and am heartbroken by this news. Even if you're not a cricket fan, this is one of the most tragic stories in Australian sporting history. A young, fit and healthy man taken from us way too soon. I can't begin to think how his family, teammates and opponents would be feeling, particularly those that were at the ground. RIP Phil.
-
Can someone please tell me what time it starts? As in, what time St.Kilda will read out pick 1?
-
Come on guys, Roos is not implying anything about GWS with the Petracca comment. He has tongue-in-cheek declared that if Petracca isn't picked up by the Saints, we will. Gladly. If you can't read between the lines there then get a new hobby! He also mentions that Petracca, Brayshaw and McCartin are the best 3 players in the draft "at the moment", and that we'll be picking a combination of those two.

I don't agree with it. Dustin Martin would probably have trouble spelling his own name, yet is one of the best players in the league. He is just one example. I feel like recruiters are trying a bit too hard these days. Could we make their jobs a lot easier by raising the draft age to 20? -
-
Not many players get to 200 games. Dunn is well on his way to achieving that. He may not have set the world on fire in his early years but to suggest he has not given value as a (late) first round pick is unfair.

Bang Bang Bang replied to The Devil Inside's topic in Melbourne Demons
We've been saying that for 6 years. Watts isn't going to get any bigger now, he's reached his genetic potential. And to be fair, he's a lot bigger now than he was when drafted. -
They could potentially be the new Scullgove, though. Let's hope it turns out a little bit better than that...

Bang Bang Bang replied to The Devil Inside's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for the report saty. Interesting to read the bit about Toumpas. From memory he was looking the goods last pre-season too, even snagged a bag in the intra-club match, but then was out of the side by round 3 after a couple of so-so performances. Would love to see him make a good fist of it next year. Probably more so than any other player. A great kid who has been unfairly maligned so early in his career. -
LOL There will undoubtedly be busts, there are every year. And it may even be a draft that doesn't produce any outright superstars. But it sounds like you're being different for the sake of being different!

Can we change thread title to 'Michael Evans delisted'? Good luck to him in his future endeavours, but clearly wasn't up to it for the most part despite giving his all. Had a contract so deserves full pay out. Not his fault the guy who signed him had no idea how to manage a list.
-
Just saw on Jon Ralph's twitter! Wow...
-
Correct. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-06-06/evans-signs-new-deal-with-dees
-
What's wrong with Jay Clark? He had some pretty good mail during trade week and almost always catches wind of the top picks in the weeks leading up to the draft.
-
We could have easily signed him and gone to the draft with pick 40 (and even pick 52 as well) with better list management.
-
Roos knows what he is doing. I'm not sure the guy who signed up Evans and McKenzie for 3 years each did. I have little doubt if either were OOC they'd be out the door.
-
That's not too good. It means the two picks we got out of the Frost trade won't be used. I was excited about those picks. We found JKH and Kent in the 40s. Matt Jones too has been servicable, and was found in the 50s. Poor list management.
