Farewell Jesse Hogan
Giving him a taste of the scrutiny and pressure of life in a two horse town.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I understand the sentiment and frustration but disagree. He has committed to the club when he signed his last contract extension, it would be manifestly unfair if he honoured that contract, yet we demanded an additional extension on top of the one he's already committed to. There are plenty of players on our list who are out of contract next year, yet we're no demanding an extension from them...

This is an excellent get! There’s a risk there with his medical history, but a potentially huge reward if he can get through it. Great value.

Yeah- he knows he’s gone. Jones demonstrates that he’s diplomatic, articulate, a leader and a decent human being in the way he spoke about Hogan.

It's not the specific pick, it's the access to the pool of players. The following 'superstars' were taken between 10 and 20 since 2010: Tom Lynch (11), Brodie Smith (14), Isaac Smith (19), Toby Greene (11), Sam Doherty (12), Devon Smith (14), Brodie Grundy (19), Patrick Cripps (12), Lachie Weller (13), Jake Lever (14), Charlie Curnow (12), Daniel Rioli (15), Tom Doedee (17) Jade Gresham(18), Ryan Burton (19). That just in the 10-20 range and there are plenty more All Australian/ BnF winners outside of that range. This of course doesn't include players that would easily be in our starting 18. Draft picks are generally overrated, but there is some genuine A Grade talent available at pick 10, and we're looking at have 2 picks between 6 and 10.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
When you’re trading for picks, 5 year minimum imho. You can’t judge a player by their output as a 20 year old. Plenty here have called for the heads of Brayshaw, Weideman, Harmes, McDonald x 2. Olivers and Hogans are the exception.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Exactly. You can only truly judge a trade 5-10 years after it’s happened. Regardless of the picks we get, it’s what we do with them that counts.

Whatever the compensation may be, it’s clear to me from Jones’ comments that Hogan is leaving. I have full trust in the club to maximise the compensation, but I hope we don’t cough-up too much for May. Any compensation pick we send to Fold Coast will hopefully net is May and KK at least.

Rate him! May + Kolo for pick 10 (should the Hogan trade eventuate)

Farewell Dean Kent
It's a shame that he hasn't fulfilled his early promise, but I've never been convinced that he'd be a consistent high level performer. Form and attitude have held him back, but in recent years it's been his body that's let him down. Maybe a new environment will see that luck change. We wont be getting a decent draft pick for him, 4th... maybe 3rd if we're very lucky. To tell you the truth, I would have done a straight swap for Goddard or Freeman, but they've been delisted so that's no help now. Billy Longer? Jack Lonie?

Lever was given a backline coaching/mentoring role. He was there in an official capacity.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
I simply cannot get my head around this one. I thought, in the limited times I've seen him play, that he has a lot of potential as a full time ruckman. This makes me wonder why he's not being hotly pursued by many clubs, why Nth is letting him slip away with Goldy in his twilight years, and why a ruck, who could be playing consistent AFL games next year, would come to a club where he is guaranteed to be second fiddle to the best ruck in the league... The only answer I can come up with is that I, and many other fans, have significantly overestimated his ability and potential output.

Interesting case Bernie. Didnt want to be traded, and definitely didn’t want to come to us, but as soon as he walked through our doors he embraced the club and played with genuine passion. His career was fading away in adelaide - to the extent that he was told they were going to cut him at the end of the next season if he didn’t leave. He then found a new level of intensity and consistency with us that he’d never had to that point. He and Daniel Cross were godsends in 2014.

I think Gawn referred to him as his favoured opposition player during the preseason... after he dumped TMac in AFLX: “My favourite opposition player against my least favourite teammate...”

Can hopefully now enjoy a few beers in the crowd as we go deep into the finals.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
It’s all getting a little bit silly now. The only reason the club would ever trade Hogan would be if we were offered something simply too good to pass up in return. Some arguments suggesting we trade home because he’s overrated or replaceable are fanciful. He would walk into the forward six of every team in the league- and they’d be very, very happy to have him. There was a similar thread in the first third of the year suggesting to trade Brayshaw for ‘whatever we could get for him’. Three weeks ago there was a thread to cut our losses and trade out Weideman (who’s suddenly replaced Hogan as our long term CHF). Jesse is a 23yo KPF who has only played 71 games. He hasn’t even scratched the surface. And... https://thewest.com.au/sport/melbourne-demons/jesse-hogan-isnt-going-anywhere-says-melbourne-coach-simon-goodwin-ng-b88942433z

Andrew Gaff
Exactly. With McGovern resigning WCE may not be in a position to match a huge offer. Darling, Kennedy, NicNat as well as signings like Redden and Jetta would all be taking up a lot of cap space. They’ll need him to re-sign for quite a bit less than market value as they’ll struggle to ‘match’ it.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I wouldn't shop Hogan around, but if he asked and that was the offer... we'd be mad not to take it.
