  1. The AFL: over-complicating simple ideas since 1990.
  2. She is great for the club and is the highest profile Melbourne player in my living memory. All round superstar!
  3. Agreed. I think over the last couple of years our injury list (quantity wise) has been quite good. We've just had rotten luck with the quality of players that have been injured. (Gawn, Jones 2017 + Viney, McDonald, Lever 2018) And I too believe that Viney's 'bullet-proof' attitude to his injury in 2017 may have contributed to him returning too early. Viney was desperate to get back into the team in 2017, and we were praising him for his 'tough' 'hard-nosed' attitude. Sometimes you can play through the pain, other times you need to listen to what the body is telling you. Regarding Misson; I think he's done a good job. We're a young, strong and fit team that is playing and running out games with great intensity. He built the players for finals, and they stood up. Has been at the club for a long time and it's maybe time for some fresh ideas to come in and for him to find a new challenge.
  4. Something I've noticed often from Spargo in particular whilst watching highlights over the summer. He has a very, very good footy-brain.
  5. Has become a great pick-up for us! Looking forward to three more years of that lethal left foot.
  6. I interpreted everything Jones said as being the typical 'media modesty' that gets wheeled out every year. 'I'll put my hand up for the role... what's best for the club... everyone has to earn their spot... no one's an automatic selection for round one...etc." There's zero chance Viney takes the role as sole-captain after not being able to get on the park consistently since half-way through 2017 and not being able to undertake full training this pre-season. Whilst Jones isn't the player he used to be, he did have an excellent finish to the season - especially rounds 22 and 23 and also performed well in the finals (except of course for what happened on the 22/09/2018). One of the highlights of the build up to the finals was hearing the other players in the team talk about the high regards and respect they hold for Jones and his goal again Geelong to start the final term set the stadium alight. I have no doubt the players will want him as captain.
  7. Great news! How any professional athlete can have children is completely beyond me. I would have been forced into retirement after the first week.
  8. Is that John Nicholls on the far left of the photo... beast.
  9. Significantly more exciting and meaningful than AFLX.
  10. I thought the only certainty from the MFC to be picked was Nev Jetta...
  11. I agree that in previous years there has been much more detail in the reporting (Burgo's diaries, etc.). This year they seem to be pivoting more toward the social media content with Clarry, Viney and co. taking over the instagram account. Gives an interesting insight into the lives and routines of the players, but much less content and detail than in years gone by.
  12. My priority is not being filmed.
  13. Not sure if I’ve ever seen a less impressed look on someone’s face as that woman has in that video...
  14. I have no issues that Kent moved on to the Saints. For me, he wasn’t able to keep up with the current team and brand of football that we are playing. A change was needed for him and his re-signing wasn’t a priority for us. He’s an AFL standard player who would probably be peripheral of every team in the league’s best 18. If one of those teams is willing to offer 3 years- take it.
  15. That’s a great result for us. Hopefully May, Jetta and Trac report ‘general soreness’ on match-day and we can have a clean sweep!
  16. Whilst I understand the sentiment that it wasn't a 'classic' for Melbourne supporters, that night was the best individual performance I've ever seen by a player: Wayne Carey: 15 marks, 31 disposals, 11 goals 2 behinds... could play.
  17. I wouldn’t have thought that water skiing was a particularly ‘dangerous’ or ‘wreckless’ activity for someone to undertake. May be a case of Kane Cornes being Kane Cornes and over-dramatising things, big I too have read some angry Port supporters slamming Wines online. FWIW I was also surprised by many Melbourne supporters and even Paul Roos’ comments about Petracca’s ankle injury whilst playing backyard basketball...
  18. I always try not to sweat the small things in life or lose sleep over the things in this world out of my control, but for some reason AFLX makes me furious. It is purely an exploitative corporate bastardisation of our game from the kitsch format down to the tacky ‘Marvel’ superhero themed teams. Its genuinely worrying for the future of the game that the AFL wants to see this format succeed.
  19. Hogan was an exceptional player and I doubt that the move west will diminish his powers at all. However, if our structure can hold up and function as well as it did for the final two rounds of the H&A and the first two weeks of the Finals, then we’re onto a good thing.
  20. Very happy to see all the youngsters developing in the VFL this year. Will be watching Hore and Petty closely in the JLT and am excited by the prospect of Spargo with another pre-season under his belt and Baker finding a spot on the wing at some stage in 2019.
  21. That team would wallop the 2012-13 line-ups.
  22. Robbo kicked 73 in 2005. Nietz kicked 68 in 2006. TMac kicked 53 in 2018.
  23. Exactly. It’s ongoing management rather than a flare-up or recurrence.
  24. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-01-18/dancing-demons-ballet-helping-prevent-foot-injuries Refers to the video of him exercising his toe on the morning of Jack Viney's wedding.
