Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 12
JackVineyForPresident replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
This game is really winnable, they rely on fast movement and we can definitely stop that. They are not as good as Collingwood at breaking lines so we should be okay stopping their line breaking. I am thinking key matchups also. Cross-Zaharakis.. Zaka is in a rich vein of form and Crossy would do a fantastic job of limiting his input. Vince- Heppell.. He is capable of playing head-to-head with Heppell and i have full faith he'll hurt him offensively. Jones-Hocking.. it's probably inevitable Hopefully Tyson gets to run loose abit, he could be a real game changer in this match. I am pumped about this one, no Jobe, full of distractions.. Let's get up and kill them defensively. Play "boring", i dont care. It's not boring for me anyway. Got you might demons -
I hope he fails. He did not repay the faith in our club and re-sign, we got Vince. I hope he does absolutely nothing!

Can i ask why? He has categorically been better than Selwood this year? He has been as good as Rockliff and Prestia.. The only reason people wouldnt have him in their team is off his previous years not being at AA level. I am the first person to say that when you're not at that level you dont deserve to be in AA, but he is at that level and deserves to be in the team.

Our first pick and a deal that sees Frawley go as a trade? Would they consider that you reckon?

Jesse Hogan Injury Update?
JackVineyForPresident replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I might go down to training on Friday just to see him run haha. Want to make sure it's actually real. -
I am not interested in him. We have Kent, Evans, JKH who are all ahead of him in my opinion. Not to mention Jayden Hunt who hasnt played and is most likely even quicker.

Source? Source? Source? I would pay a mil for the kid if necessary. He is a rare breed. One of my favourite players to watch.
-
I would not have Brodie Smith, as he has had an average month. Other than that, that's a great team
-
It's simple for me.. I'd give JKH one more chance.. Out: Salem In: Kent Pretty similar positions, give Salem a 2 week rest.. he'll be back

Jamar subbed off, Good or bad move?
JackVineyForPresident replied to Bobby McKenzie's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was surprised, thought that we should've taken Salem off. I guess Roosy made the decision and i'll trust that it was right. -
Tommy Mac, the elusive footballer.

I really like the kid, i love how he is very solid for someone so young. I love how he (when not corked can run with Riewoldt) has elite endurance. But his skills are scary and give me heart palpitations. The sooner the kid learns how to kick, the sooner i'll be stable with him. Just because he is a defender, it doesnt mean he should have rubbish skills and decision making -
What are we missing?
JackVineyForPresident replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dom, Jones, Viney, Toumpas, Hogan, Frawley, Mcdonald, Salem and Vince are players who need to have elite skills -
The constant criticism of our new game-plan is attracting a lot of negative attention, and i am loving it. We are playing a defensive game that i remember Sydney playing and also attracting a lot of negative attention. Our ruthless defence will pay dividends in a manner that i can finally see making us a really top team. Amongst this, we have an identity. We have an identity that invites a contest, rather than a goal-fest. One of my main criticisms of both the Bailey and Neeld game-plans was other teams ability to destroy us on their offence. I am loving the criticism and i look forward to more "boring" games that finally result in Melbourne getting the 4 points. Bring on the bombers and north.

3 goals at elite level very poor
JackVineyForPresident replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
You're failing to mention Collingwood's score here. They scored 61, for an incredibly aggressive team that's very low. This time next year our attack and offensive football will be in order and i expect to be scoring around 65-80+ per game. -
JKH out Kent In Salem starting as sub

The defensive pressure was excellent. Eventually we will learn to attack. Be optimistic!!!!! -

Mark Basics [edit: resurrected from 2013]

I dont like how when we get a free kick forward of centre, we always go backwards, never just pump it to the hotspot. It's really weird -
It is pretty obvious to say that both Collingwood and Sydney are premiership contenders and really solid football sides, but something impressed me about both matches that really make me happy to see. Whilst yes, we scored incredibly low in both games, i understand it. Roos is instilling a game-plan that finally matches it defensively with those top teams. It is not the matches against Carlton or Richmond that i am overly happy with defensively, it's the matches against the top teams where they havent scored over 70 that i am happy with. Collingwood is an aggressive and fast moving team, so for them to score so low is a huge bonus. Once we learn how to attack effectively we will legitimately have an opportunity to win against those top 4 teams. Last year we might have scored 65 points, but they would have scored 130. We are closing the gap. I would absolutely love to switch Gawn with Hogan and have Hogan in the goal square, because he probably would've taken a few today. Bring on the top 4 sides, i want to see relentless defensive pressure. Eventually we'll crack them
