have you thought about contacting the club? they might be able to organise a signed photo for you. it might cost a small fee (and why not, the club needs it), but with this much notice im sure it could be organised. i'm sure they used to do personalised bday cards like that...

can you explain to me why you don't want to pay out his contract? we will pay him the same amount next year whether he plays or not. the only extra money we'll pay is the cost of a draftee (what $35K?). and not only will we have further our cause of pushing forward with youth, but we will also have removed a player from our list who's poor behaviour and poor on and off field examples have continually demonstrated how poor his character really is. if you want to improve the culture of the mfc, getting rid of carroll is a great first move.

i think thats a fair assesment. and it should probably be noted that his preseasons have been limited by injury, so in effect this year was a continuation of his first (drawing a long bow? lol). hopefully he will have a chance to sit down with bails and outline a plan to work on over summer. and hopefully he stays injury free until this time next year, so we can see what improvement he makes...

he is out for next season. he is not currently in their best 22, and his selection each week depends on the availability of others. what i was referring to was the fact that he was already slightly on the outer and for him to press his claim to be part of the best team in the comp, he needed to be at full fitness and playing well every week, otherwise he is always the first dropped. a year out of the game means others will get the opportunities that have the last two years been presented to him. if someone else steps up he is then ranked further down the list.

they have had a handful of years of off field success amongst their overall mediocre history. they are a basketcase on the field, and have been since their beginings.
-
it is kinda funny, because i know that we are a rabble at the moment, but freo is a basket case of a club, with no history, they are considering changin their own colours jumper and theme song because they are crap, and they can't win a game of footy either, let alone a finals match. i spose kicking us atm makes them feel a little better. freo2008, what does shane richmond have to say about the whole robbie warnock thing?
-
i can only assume they allowed it on the back of hawthorns emergencies being allowed game time so they weren't just sitting in the stands, but it doesnt make any sense in terms of the vfl competition, the whole reason the rules are there is to stop players dropping back and playing below their level.
-
you mean miss the 2009 season i think? you wouldn't want to go offering too much for him, but he has to know his chances at geelong are now limited. out for probably 9 months, he will probably be able to come back towards the end of next season, but would have to regain fitness at vfl level and fight his way into an afl side, so next year is not a reality. his spot will probably be overtaken by others at geelong also, and he will have to fight back in. i would still be keen to trade for him, as long as we offer very little. i would not want to be offering a 2nd rounder for an injured player. do geelong want adem yze or jeff white? :D :D

it could be worse. he could be playing in sydney everyweek.

daniel kerr was one of the best number 3's ever, but cant cut it as number 1 this season... imo it is almost impossible to have 3 number 1s in any team, they cost alot, and the chances of unearthing them all at once are very low. imo brisbane did it, and it got them 3 flags. if mclean steps into the role of number 1 mid and is successful, NJ could have a very solid long career...
-
no i realise he isnt on anywhere near that. my point is, that it doesnt matter what HE is on. if we pay him out, the only costs incurred are the costs involved with getting a new draftee. whether chop earns 10k, 100k or 500k it makes no difference, we have to pay him anyway, and he isnt worth a spot atm.
-
no to NJ as a half back flanker. you guys deride bell enough for his disposal and his penchant for getting caught, NJ will ensure we have one of those on each side of the 50 arc! jonesy had a dissapointing year in stats, and probably in effectiveness on the ground, however he probably learnt more abut afl than he had in the previous 2-3 years. he was asked to be the clubs number 1 midfielder for big chunks (no pun intended) of the year and i thought for a player who only played his 50th in the last round, did the job with his head held high every week. put mclean, moloney and davey back into that side and jones will look a lot better when not having to shoulder all the load himself.

paying out carroll would cost next to nothing. imagine he is on a $500,000 a year contract (which he is not). we have two choices: -he stays on the list next year, gets $500,000 from us, and barely plays an afl game because he isnt as good as some of our other youth. or -we delist him and pay him out $500,000, we draft an extra player (say 3rd round) who gets paid $35-40,000, maybe plays a few games, but most important speeds up the devlopment of our young list. option b seems to be the best option for the footy club and only costs us the price of a 3rd round draft pick.

my point is that i am not sure who would want him. obviosuly id love to trade him for a pick in the top 20 or 15, not that i have anything against green, but because i see that as the way forward for the mfc. but you would assume the only teams chasing a 27 yo would be teams in the window within a year or two. so i think we can fairly write off all teams outside the top 8. the exception is carlton, because i think they believe they are going up, and they probably want to make the most of fevolas last few years as well. so the 9 clubs that might be interested are: geelong- i cant see why they would want to ship in a non key (ie not a KPP or a star midfield) player, who they would have to pay well, and who would only contribute for 2-3 years, given that their list is already good, balanced, they will have to start paying extra for players soon anyway, and they already have younger players starved of opportunity. unless the deal involved say prismal for green, in which case it is probably a win for both clubs. hawthorn - similar to geelong i cant see them bringing in an outsider into their mix of young home grown players. also as other players stocks rise so will their contracts. however he could be a good replacement as an experienced player for shane crawford who is surely almost gone. hawthorn have a key part of their list in the 25-26 year old bracket, and they will want to make the most of that before dew croad, bateman, jacobs, guerra, campbell, and osburn all retire. on the other side, they may want to hold onto their draft picks to develop younger players who will play wth buddy/roughead in years to come. western bulldogs- after watching them on friday night i cannot see them chasing after another mid sized player, who can play forward back or midfield. the dogs need genuine KPPs, up front and back, and it wouldn;t surprise me if they chased some. they went after welsh last year, but he is a 2nd or 3rd tall, and they could use a genuine tall prospect. st kilda- ageing list, in terms of where their experience lies, and it might come down to how far they get this finals series. should they reach a prelim or the GF, expect them to top up through trading for another roll of the dice next year. if they get knocked out in straight sets, they may decide to go with youth to bolster their list for the next 5 years, which will be the last parts of reiwoldts career. adelaide- after being knocked out today, i cant imagine the crows are thinking premierships next year. and brad green wont make the difference to that side. they will also hold pick 9 which is higher than green is worth, and their next pick, 27, is probably lower than we would be hoping for. north melbourne- will have picks in the 10-12 mark, which again is probably slightly too high. but like a couple of other clubs, their experience is getting older (25 and above), unlike the hawthorn and geelongs. that might mean north are keen to top up. last year, north traded later picks for players, including sam power, whos age fits in with the older bracket. perhaps they will be keen to secure another player in that group, especially if they win a couple of finals? green could be utilised to replace shannon grant around the forward line. they might not be keen to lose pick 10, but if they make the prelim and have pick 13 or 14 it might be a chance. but i would expect that picks 28-32, their second round picks, would be to low for the dees. sydney- similar to north, how long do the swans have left with the current grounp? if they get knocked out early it might be time to pull the plug on a few careers and start rebuilding, but if they win a couple paul roos will be keen to have another crack with this group, because his time will only last so long. as above, if they win a final or two they could have pick 13 or 14 which is a possibility only if they think green will add to their structure. i think sydney probably lack a couple of tall players, but green fits their current mold of mid range height. and he is willing to back into a pack for the team. collingwod- always after a player, is brad green a big enough name? i can see brad working for collingwood, and believe they would probably have the right draft picks to trade. they wont want to trade any players away to get him, and they might be keen to draft for kids to supplement their current young talent. however, if they want to make the most of burns, presti, obree, lockyer, johnson and davis, green might be a good pick up to help get them there next year. carlton - as i said above, carlton have a pretty young list, however nick stevens and fevola, two key players for the blues, only have 3 years left. as the murphy, and gibbs brigade get better the blues believe they have a real shot in maybe 2 years. brad green would be perfect for that. the issues here are money, how could they possibly afford him while paying judd and fev (although it is carlton, and we know they have a way around these things. and would they prefer to go youth, to support the young brigade. do they really believe they have a shot with fev and stevens? or will they sacrifice this window for a bigger one that could open in 4-5 years?
-
green would be a handy addition to a team that believes they are challanging in the next two years. he will go in hard, and can play in almost any position, making him great cover for a whole range of players. i am not sure if he fits carltons window, but imo he would be a cheaper pick up than kerr for them, and probably have just as much effect. i think he is too short for the dogs, and hawthorn and geelong wont want him. so that being said, who is left for green? st kilda? i thought this would be their last roll, but maybe. collingwood? likely the best option for green, coming into a window with a good group of young kids...adelaide? im not really sure about the state of their list, but i think they are perhaps on the down not up.

don't you think that alot of the current nicknames for afl teams have been born out of history, rather than made up for comercial reasons? we are the melbourne football club. as are the carlton football club, etc. the 'demons' nickname is a monika that stemmed out of history, like the redlegs, the fushias and the invisible whites before that. i say let the GCFC grow their own nickname, so that it means something when it eventually sticks.
-
i swear it adds more than that. congestion as a result of road works is a lot worse. once the new lane is finished it will be a lot better. but really, it should have been done when they built the thing.
-
i think it the afl making us bend over for them. we cant kick up a fuss because they will pull funding. i think it is worth us, as members, letting the club know where we stand on the issue. if there is a astrong enough voice it might have some credence with the afl. i am sure the mfc is listening. but there is nothing to say that they dont have marketing advice, supporter surveys and other details that indicate white is the way to go for any number of reasons. and in all honesty, while we are all getting behind the red jumper now (and i think the red with the blue monogram looks substantially better), didnt a lot of people complain about the red with the blue m a few years ago as well?
-
when and whom did you email? i sent it to the info@ address and marked it attention martin cox. this was earlier in the week. out of interest, did your email address a particular jumper or the general issue of using red instead of white? because mine addressed using red, and supported any jumper that used red and no white.
-
out of interest i got an email back from martin cox today letting me know that my opinion would be considered. great to hear the club is responding to this stuff, and i hope we end up with a good result.

do you not think it sounds like we've lost an extra million on top of everything we thought we'd lose?
-
red white blue and yellow just seems to invite clashes with everyone. mfc, nmfc, wb, wc, st kilda, freo, swans, could all potentially clash with that colour combination. the more colours the more clashes too, because the jumpers get blurry. why not make them 'orange and blue, then they'd ony clash with WC. or green and black, they'd clash with no one. or yellow and purple. or yellow and red. the list goes on. why use a combination thaqt already exists? fwiw im prety happy with the GC FC thing. thats what all the afl clubs were originally, and the nickname slowly caught on for some reason or another. let them be the gold coast, and somewhere along the line they will pick up an appropriate nomiker. at least it will have more meaning than the 'pirates' or the 'marlins', plastic imposed nicknames that i believe would be hard for anyone to support.

exactly right. sensationalist journalism. the 4.7 mil debt already included an expected 2 mil loss this year didnt it? if we only lost 1 mil we are up. if she is trying to say we actually lost 3, she did a very poor job of reporting it.
-
hey pates, it'd be good to see bot mclean and moloney come back into that midfield. those two can take it in turns joining jones as the boys trying to get the ball, while the other is free to join cale as a reciever. mcleans boot is overrated when he is fit...

garland didnt get a vote because he played as a defender. pure and simple.
