6 Valenti - tried all day. 16 touches 2 goals 1. 5 bruce - went in hard, got a bit of it. 4 martin - fought admirably in defence. i know lonergan kicked goals on him, but everyone kicked goals today, and i thought he did nice things with the ball, and generally read it well. 3 wheelan - attacked it hard as usual. kept stokes quiet for 3 quarters. 2 maric - encouragment votes. did nothing wrong, but i didnt think he really did enough with it. then again, when he got it, we didnt really have options in front of him did he? 1 bartram - thought he did a solid job on ablett all day even though ablett is stronger and faster. apologies to mcdonald and PJ. but i dont think either did enough consistently. a few times i saw mcdonald not go in for the player or the tackle, i thought he couldve chased, and PJ didnt do quite enough around the stoppages for me.

ok so im not making excuses. we were terrible, but i think this is worth noting. last year we had a horrible run with injuries, and while we acknowledge that we have had a few this year, and that we have been terrible it wasn't until tonight that i realised just how bad the list was. it certainly hasn't been reported on the official lists in this way. key backs: rivers (possibly our most important defender) garland (arguably our best this year) mids: mclean (our best) davey (our only real pace, and a player who can break games) moloney (showed he had a key spot in our midfield earlier this year) key forwards: neitz (retired, but due to injury) robertson (leading our goal kicking up until 2-3 rounds ago even though he played only about the first 7 games) miller (leading our goal kicking) there are a couple of other names on the list this week such as bell and jamar. and other players have spent most of the year on the list such as grimes, petterd, wheelan and newton. it could be argued that jamar should be considered in the top list, as one of our most important players, especially after watching jeff white imitate his former self tonight (jeff your great, but the game has passed you by). the point is that 8, maybe 9, of arguably our 10 most important players were missing tonight. and it is likely that at least 7 of those players will form the nucleus of our team going forward. and the players aren't flankers and pockets, but KPP's, and key mids. take geelongs best 8 out, and put ours in, and im not saying we'd beat them, but i think we'd give them a far better shake.

any senior player asking more than about average pay at this point in time is kidding themselves. we are on the bottom of the lader, they are not the key to our success. they are going to take us to a flag. they are hanging around and playing footy until the next group is ready. that being said, if he is made captain next year, he should be payed what a captain is worth.

High Tower. I think Rhinos point is that yuo dont need to repost everything that has been discussed before. bring those threads up. read them from start to finish, and if you think that something hasnt been said, post onj the end. this is a waste of a thread. oh and his other point is that you dont need to post so freakin much. its about quality not quantity, and as much as you may enjoy this site, posting every second post in a thread is a waste of time. replying to your own posts are a waste of time. slow down a bit, and make you post worthwhile.

its gutless becauswe instead of trying to use his skill and pace to beat green, he decided to take a soft cheap option and try and win a free kick from an umpire. the rules werent written to win free kicks. the rules were written to protect players. gutless, cheap, and not in the spirit of the game. you're welcome to go back to bomberblitz if you dont like it.

that is actually how i read it as well. i thought i heard that because he was an unproven CEO in terms of footy etc (dont kid yourself, aus open ran for 2 weeks of the year), and because of how we were burnt with the pay out of harris, that the board did not put him on a contract. ie you are working for this much per week etc for no fixed term. i could be wrong, but thats how i read it.

green had no choice. it should have been called played on. they were running at full pace and monfries dropped under him. green would have taken him sideways but he fell over the top. umpire should have called play on for staging. replay clearly showed that monfries stopped running and dropped his knees.

isnt he an accountant? lol so you'd hope not. but you get my point. $4.7 mil in debt, any decision to throw away money is not a good decision.

probably not great. but, and i feel sorry for the vfl clubs, unfortunately, if the victorian afl clubs are to go forward, this needs to happen. victorian teams need to be allowed to develop their players in the positions they want to, at the grade the want to, at the pace they need too. if this means the afl needs to put up the cash to create a reserves comp in the afl so be it. 10 victorian teams, play every twice gives you an 18 week competition. if the afl expands to 24 weeks plus 2 byes and 4 weeks of finals, that is 30 weeks. you could play 10 teams, play everyone 3 times, have 1 bye, and have two weeks of finals in a top four scenario... or perhaps instead of increasing the pay for the top players with salary caps, the afl could invest in a national reserves competition. not financially a money winner, but would be very good for the quality of the game...

maybe part of the reason we're in debt... and it would be ironic if we were to pay out carrol given that he is basically the man who replaced Nicholson, consigning him to the delist bin.
-
interesting. BRB's sandy report wasnt quite as glowing...

the game starts at 705, so hopefully the coverage will start before 710pm...

yep fantastic idea for this club. everyone kicks and screams about sacking the ceo (who didnt get a payout, was only paid for what he worked) but you suggest we delist andpay out contracts of players? do you not think there are a myriad of other players we could delist/retire without the need to pay out someone else?

casey whispers. if the mfc/casey allignment was to take place, do you see the casey side playingfor caseytrying to win matches, or do you see the casey side acting as a development side for the mfc, while trying to win matches. ie if the mfc had a young player that we wanted to train in a specific position, would he be allowed to learn that at casey, or would casey expect to play him where he plays best in order to win the match?

Andy would have spat his cornflakes everywhere when he read that. :D :D actually WJ that is an issue I have as well. No credit card or paypal account. is there another option for those of us who would want to get on board (in september of course)?

now newton is really doomed... -
strange wonna isnt up there too...how many first year/rookies are leading their club goal kicking after 17 rounds or whatever it is? with miller out he might just win it... unfortuantely it is all about your 'name'. palmer will get it over morton (although palmer has been getting more of it). rioli will always be voted ahead of wonna. even though imo it is probably not justified based n performance... (for those interested: wonna 15 games, averaging 11.5 possies and 1.5 goals per game. cyril 18 games, averaging 13.5 possies and .8 goals per game. and morton 15 games, 17.5 possies and .7 goals. palmer 16 games, 22.9 possies and .4 goals) something i didnt realise is that palmer is 11 months older than morton. and fwiw morton and palmer are listed at very similar weights but morton is 10cm taller.

i agree with you. and it is interesting to note that he is only year and a half younger than newton, and has played more games (17 all up). it amazing the number of people willing to write off young KPP when we have no other prospects. everyone expects them to dominate straight away.

NORTHERN BULLANTS v SANDRINGHAM at MC Labour Park

any more updates guys? keep em coming. -
i thought i heard hamstring, but nothing to back that up...
-
i agree. jamars follow up efforts after the tap to sheppard and make space for our mids was fantastic today. he made second third and forth efforts both on the ball and at clearing space. one of his best games for the club IMO

which is the perfect reason to keep him on. he was young and immature when he was drafted. he is slowly developing but has many traits that could make him a good long term prospect. allow him time to develop. he was always a speculative pick and never expected to step in and dominate. -

i thought they couldnt be traded at all in the first year of their contract? because they have to agree to it any time you try and trade them...(thus ferguson said no). i can't understand why everyone hates juice. he is a young key forward who kicks a few goals and needs more time to develop. we are giving him more time. he has played 14 games. give him a chance.
