ok so who else can we see going this year? 6 gone, and given that valenti and aussie are good odds to be elevated to the senior list means we only have 4 picks atm. i can only assume that we will wont more than that. at least 4 in the national draft (1, 17, 19, 35 are all reasonable picks). we would want PSD pick 1, and there is a possibility that we will trade in a player ie robbie warnock. that means we need at least 2 more spots. can we leave say valenti on the rookie list until after the draft to see what comes up? has wheelan been re-signed yet? i dont think either he nor green haev signed yet. there positions may be shakey at this point. green could get us a decent pick in the draft...perhaps we will look at trading a pick on for a young player ie prismal, arther than drafting...

I thought I would send mr cox a note as well, lending my support for a predominately red jumper. if anyone would like to support the jumpee send an email to: [email protected] marked Attention: Martin Cox, Marketing Coordinator

whats wrong with using the old jumper i often see barras in, where the red yolk is actually just a little peak on the front and most of the back is red?

RE the game plan of not kicking to targets. the problem we have here is that we when do kick to targets we invariably lose possession. this is because a) we dont have genuine marking targets to kick too. and b ) because our skills are poor and we constantly kick the ball over their heads or to the wrong side of the contest. imo players further up the ground do not move enough too present themselves. and that is probably two slightly different plans being played, i'll discuss them in a moment. but of course you shouldnt kick to a contest defensive of the center circle if you can help it. you would be killed on the turnover everytime. game plan 1 'run and carry' or whatever you want to call it. summed up reasonably by skipper. now the key point i believe he missed is that we are trying to run as a group and allow the free man to kick into the forwards unpressured. this theorectically should result in better disposal quality to the forwards, negating problem a above. the issue we have here is that the plan is new and the players dont get it. often they dont run hard enough to link up (imagine them circling around providing an outside option, sort of like the ball moving across a rugby field), when they do, they often handball an extra player too many. most likely because they are not confident with how to execute the game plan. this extra handball often runs the last player into trouble, who then stuff the ball up either by hand or foot, or results in our attack being stifled, where we end up applying game plan 2. the players need to learn to read when they are the best option to kick, rather than just dishing off an extra handball because that was the game plan. they need to kick, unless the handball will put someone else in a better position to kick. game plan a results in the ball being turned over in the middle due to extra handballs, or the ball coming into the forward line, poorly. game plan b is what happens once the ball movement is slowed down. this means the forwards have all led out of position waiting for the pass that never came, the cycle then ensures that the mids with the ball now take even longer because they have no one to kick too. what we have been doing to counter this recently is trying to create free space. we havnt been doing a good job.

Our most important players for team success
deanox replied to The Red Fox's topic in Melbourne Demons
good analysis, now you should work out which combination of players gets the best winning percentage. if you want to start simply with combinations of two i wont mind, you have to work up to it. -
slcik handballs are what greg williams gave out of a pack. cameron bruce comes from the jeff white school of handball-to-a-stationary-player-about-to-get- tackled or sometimes puts his own slant on it: run-in-a-circle-until-i-nearly-get-caught-and-then-handball-back-to-a-player-under-pressure. his disposal is poor and lets himself down. i think he is probably struggling a little with the new game plan, and exactly what he has to do, like most of the older players.

i'll cop the example about his kick in. but out of interest, when do we ever kick in well? but once i read the next paragraph it is clear you have written him off and dont even watch any more. he is a great spoiler from behind. he actually tackles quite well. you are right about good skills and terrible execution. but then again, tell me which melbourne player has consistently executed his skills well this year? at least we know he can kick once he finds some form. bruce and jones are two perfect examples of players whose skills are worse than bells, and they are prolific. he is focused about maintaining touch with opponents, and i think this is specifically because a few times in his career he has lost players around packs during marking contests. he is playing on players who will slidea around and collect the loose ball, he needs to know where his man is. he started the year terribly, but has been playing reasonably well the past few weeks. he beats his man, and he provides some run out of defence. in a year when no one at the club could be satisfied with their seasons, especially a player who, when everyone is fit, is probably between 16-25 on our list maximum, i think he has done pretty well. he will never be a superstar, but will be serviceable for the next 5-10 years, and probably play most weeks (unless someone wants him and we trade him).

i'm with jaded, i mean Bell attacked the contest today, spoiled well. i thought his disposal was good and his run out of defence was positive. i am not sure what you could say he did wrong? 17 disposal, 3 inside 50's, i thought he was pretty solid, and i really think he has worked hard to turn his season around.

well we did come last.

i think the problem with the red jumper is that the a couple of the teams we 'clash' with have red. essendon, sydney fremantle and apparently st kilda. (carlton we clash with but dont have red). by increasing the red we could make the clash worse. HOWEVER, imo by adding white, we clash worse with st kilda and sydney.

when watching the game, i actually noticed that richmond would consistently line up with only 4 or 5 players in their forward line leaving us with spare defenders back there. i am not sure to what extent we did it as well, but richmond definitely put numbers back.

why do they have to total 100? and it cant be too hard to make a program that will factor the values out to a total of 100 anyway.

haha sorry if im suggesting too much, but i think most people would rather a system that follows some sort of set rules than a random allocation of weightings. when you consider how many different combinations of tips everyone submits each week, it makes sense that the weightings should follow an equation or formula, rather than being a personal opinion of the 'tipping master'. and as you said, weights would also change throughout the week as injuries, tribunal and other information is made. i agree with high tower, either make up a formula for the weightings or use the initial head to head offered by sportsbet. or if your software can handle it, link the weightings to a constant up date from sportsbet so that voters get the weightings in real time. although i dont think that is worth the effort! lol i like the idea, and i think demonlanders in general would be happy to beta test it for you, i know i would.

carrol is contracted for next year. i think delisting is a good move however. and could explain the elevation for one last game. he was bog in the ruck last week. he certainly wont play in the ruck at afl, unless they intend on trialling him there to see if he can make up for his lack of height with g and d once the ball comes to ground.
-
RE the weights, what if you made the weights based on the ladder positioning and perhaps add a home ground factor? it might not be the fairest weighting but it would give you a consistent spread across the round and the season, and take out the effect of tribunal, injuries etc, allow you to get it up sunday night, and ensure that it is not arbitrary based on your decision. perhaps you could rank the 16 teams as 16-1 then make the ranking a factor of the points difference between the teams. if it involves a team playing at home at a advantageous venue (ie geelong in geelong, WC in perth) that teams points value could be say doubled (or perhaps increased by a constant ie 5, to ensure that geelong on top isnt worth 32, compared to geelong on bottom worth 2). melbourne teams at home to interstate sides could get the same advantage.

not how it works at all. running technique is a massive factor in speed. i assume he will also work with any physical preparation manager to provide specific exercises and routines to increase speed. 'speed coach' also sounds like a part time position as opposed to the full time physical preparation manager. FWIW i think speed coach is a better description of what BB is. I thought he came from a sprint coaching background, and perhaps should be in this role, rather than the overseer of all physical preps.

looks good. perhaps the picking page could be a bit more detailed ie game venue/date/time...

quite possible...

yeah i understand what you are saying, but that indicates that carlton 'own' the traditional monogram of xfc. most of the old clubs have used it at some point, for something, so the fact that a 7 year old doesnt understand that doesnt bother me too much. in fact i see it as an opportunity to teach the tacker. show him the carlton monogram and show him how the letters cfc fit together. show him the melbourne one too.
-
what would he think if you showed him a fitzroy jumper?
-
martin out. we have have frawley, garland, warnock, and carroll named on the ground. yes frawley can play medium but we have wheatly, gren and bell playing that role, and wheeland as a small. a plethora of tall backs there. newton to stay because the forward line is short. grimes, morton, holland, wheatly on the bench for mine, however it wouldn't surprise me if someone from the field comes out and newton plays as a tall forward. i think there is a chance that holland will ruck, as white cant do it by himself anymore.

i did a paint job but it is a horrible job, and im not sure how to put it up here anyway lol it could look alright. might need some tuning...
-
ok, what if you used the jumper that yuo have suggested BUT continued the v line (the bottom part of the demon) up to the shoulders of the jumper, then inverted the red and white colours in that region. so it was a white jumper with a red yolk, a white demon face in the red yolk and the blue mfc monogram. any chance you can do that so we can have a look?
-
i have no problem getting career mfc players just over the line for a milestone game before they retire. if we were aiming for finals it wouldnt have happened, but it is a good thing to do. if we show loyalty to players we're in a position to demand it back.

but i suppose that it might not be an accurate figure either, considering it was the total debt plus this years 'expected loss'. if we had a great second half to the year, the loss would not be as great, a particularly poor second half would be even worse...
