Peter Jackson isn't a board member. ..

Haha freak you just cheered me up even more!

There will be more players inside the circle than forming the circle during the song.

Watts shouldn't come under scrutiny after tonight's first half

A few things in our favour, a few against. A more settled team than most weeks, a good competitive effort last week, the "shackles" are off and Neil does seem to be giving the players some confidence. Week 2 with the new coach could be good a bit of shock factor has worn off. Against us is our injuries, and can't take a trick in this regard with key players missing. I hope, for the players sake more than my supporter satisfaction, that we can snatch a win and some confidence. I'd like to see Watts continue from where he left off last week and I'd like to see the Frawley generating drive. I hope Clisby, Kent and Terlich can continue their good form. I hope Fitz and Gawn hold their own, in what is arguably our weakest area other than "midfielders". I haven't watched the dogs much this year. Any thoughts on match ups? Griffen is the obvious one not sure who should go with him.

Depends which ones but I accept your point. I think there are differences that asada need to work through however. I also think that these other issues are reasons why this may take longer than otherwise. For the record, my take on it is that they should all be banned to the maximum extent and that Jobe should be stood down immediately based on his admission. I feel sorry for the players because I doubt they thought/knew they were getting an unfair advantage by using illegal substances. Yes they should have smelt something fishy but I still don't think they blatantly tried to cheat. Regardless, the rules are the four a reason and they should all get the maximum ban and the club should be fined.

There are a couple of factors that haven't been mentioned here. As far as I am aware there has never been a case Like this brought against a team, only individuals. While it shouldn't matter, and doesn't according to wada, football is a little different to other individual sports in that the players don't choose a personal coach and sports scientist, they are appointed. In this way the team effectively follows the direction of the coach. As far as I'm conned this doesn't absolve them but it makes it didn't in that the are no precedents. Also there has never been a successful prosecution of an S0 listed prohibited substance use. This is truly a test case for wada/asada. I believe the may be suspicions about other sports using similar programs. Other sports, like soccer, have significantly higher budgets than afl which is small time in some respects. If this is the case, wada will want to ensure that this case is perfect as it may form part of precedent.

Salary cap space is the one thing we have plenty of. We only have so many picks and players we can trade. I'm not saying mackay is/was the right target but I couldn't care less how much we offer players to bring them to Melbourne if they are going to play 20 games for us.* *per season

I don't like it that this has raised its head as an option in the weeks after the afl "takes over" our club. I imagine afl tasmania have played this card now on purpose. Also I don't trust any deals to play home games in tassy but keep 8 in Melbourne. Look what is happening to the "merged" Fitzroy team. 10 years on the deals started to fall apart, they don't care any more. About the Fitzroy heritage.

there are a few possible reasons for that: -poor skills (obvious but realistically all players got to afl level, they may not be elite but I don't believe they are all as bad as they collectively show) -poor fitness (higher stress on the body means lack of concentration and ability to execute skills) - poor fitness (don't run hard into space for team mates to kick to) -poor team cohesion (players don't trust others to be in the "hot spot", don't give the "I sensed he was there" pass, so they look to contests making skills look worse) -poor game plan / poor understanding of game plan / lack of trust in game plan / bad habits from old game plan Don't underestimate the lack of fitness as a cause of this, if you've ever had to exert yourself physically then while at high heat rate perform a task it can be difficult. Personally I think it is a combination of these things. What combination who knows.

I don't have a copy of the constitution. Can you confirm what it says about board appointments with regards to vacancies? Many incorporated associations will have in their rules a clause that says if there is a vacancy and someone nominates they are elected unless there are more nominations than positrons in which case the is a vote. If we have a board of 6 or 8 bit or constitution allows up to 12, can anyone stand and be automatically appointed without a vote?

"There's a strong argument," Gil McLachlan on a Priority Pick.
deanox replied to PartyTimeJohnny's topic in Melbourne Demons
Technically the afl signs off all trades to make sure they are fair and even and that nothing dodgy is going on ie buying players and if they aren't they stop then ala Tippett last year. If they gave us a pick to trade and stipulated it had to be traded for a player they would be able to ensure fair value. I agree with rpfc that GWS didn't Terry really hard but what they did get was good value for all their picks in return (ie top 3 picks). Mini draft pick + our second round pick (pick 20?) or a reasonable player (ie watts) should be worth a very good player. Our best chance is to have a player interested in leaving their club already - then the club will be keen to get the best deal they can get, which will probably be the mini draft pick. -
just you. Jamar got hurt from jumping and rucking. Macdonald broken toe from doing a dumbell on it. Viney hot spot as he is a young kid running lots
-
If the afl don't follow the asada recommendations would they be risking sponsorship, funding from government etc? They would be the only spring body in the world to ignore a wada direction.

Steven Milne is stood down based on police charges. Ben Cousins is deregistered based on behaviour not positive tests. Jobe Watson admits taking a banned substance. His registration should be suspended immediately.

If Spencer gets more weeks than Simpkin then.....
deanox replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the high to medium impact is the most likely. He was dazed but didn't look out cold. Combined with the other circumstances you described redleg, I hoe we do contest. I think they are running the game with decisions like this. It's a genuine accident in a contact sport. Spencer couldn't have done anything else. -

The only thing he cab argue at the tribunal is that it wasn't actually forceful front on contact but an accidental collision. I doubt common sense will prevail. -

That's a joke. He could not have possibly done anything else except led with his own head... The reason there are intentional, reckless and negligent for a reason. If the contact is accidental, or unavoidable those categories don't apply and there should be no report. I hour we challenge, but as usual we'll get pulled into line. Times like this make me wonder if the afl take over is worth it... -
Seller for pederson, or is there no role for either next week? Anyone know how many hogan has kicked this now? It would have to be around 30 at least. I can't remember the last player we had kick that many for our vfl affiliate...

I yelled at the umpires alot, does that count?
-
Without knowing anything other than that article, how can punching someone "because I thigh he was going to punch me" count as self defence?

Games together will help the boys. It seemed to me that today they played under a mantra of "keep possession". We copied it around and built up possession chains, they didn't always move us forward but ball in hand is important for our development. We need to get used to retaining possession and not kicking to contests til further up field. A lot of forward 50 entries were not kicked to our advantage. Tom Mc killed roo. Another quality mid would have made all the difference. We are pretty average, but with a bit of confidence aand an improvement in footskills through the midfield , we will show marked improvement. The boys seen to be a tenacious lot bit we're just crap.

watch it on slow motion, he tried to move past him. Regardless the player must have a duty of care to himself, and choosing to lead with the head disregards that. Watch the hodge v murphy(?) Collision from last week, both played collided but tried to protect themselves, that's what players should do.
-
I reckon a lot of the rot is gone, but it will now take time to develop the right culture with what is remaining.

Mcevoy put his head down and ran into Spencer. I know players have a duty of care to other players heads but players have to have a duty of care to themselves. Leading with the head was mcevoys choice, what were Spencers? Get out of his way and let him have the ball, lead with his head or stop. Should have been play on, if mcevoy won't look after himself why should Spencer gift him the ball? What actually happened to Dawes? Punch? I hope someone cleans up simpkin in the second half.
