  1. I'd agree, 3 of their goals were "lucky bounces", but they have been much better with uncontested disposal and work rate to retain the ball.
  2. We need to work hard an keep the ball. Uncontested possession chains are required and so far non existent.
  3. Why did hunt get a free kick?
  4. Byrnes gets our first. All goals have still been kicked by Geelong players.
  5. How stiff is that? Punch from the kick direct to Geelong hands
  6. 4 inside 50s without a score according to stats? Don't have it on tv yet.
  7. Apparently a Melbourne supporter all his life. He is a member and a foundation hero.
  8. If he and Buckley don't get on id be happy take him in free agency. teach our boys how to run. Would be a great addition to our midfield for 2 years. ps he is fa isn't he?
  9. there should be no problem with goal line reviews with everything moving that slowly.
  10. This is why I'd be happy to take him on for 2 or 3 with a mentee/understudy. Coaching in terms of tactics, plans, day to day motivation can be done by many people. He'll from all reports Neeld was great at plans and tactics. Anyone expecting a coach to win us a flag in the next couple of years is taking the [censored]. We might, but that won't be the measure of success. A sustained period of success, not crashing in a heap on field in a couple of years is what we should hoe for. Not many coaches have the ability to build a culture. I will settle for a coach who rebuilds our culture. Clubs with good culture are successful over a period of time and play finals continuously. The difference between success and ultimate success (a premiership) is an injury, a free kick a good day or a fixture, and winning a flag shouldn't be the message of success in the next phase of our development/revival, even though it is the ultimate aim. If we could get Roos for two years as senior coach then another 2 years as a fly in fly out club mentor/ culture overseer id be pumped.
  11. I was thinking assistant coach
  12. I wasn't. What was said?
  13. yep. The rule book is quite clear. If a player has had prior opportunity to dispose and is tackled, an attempt to correctly dispose must be successful ie if the first misses the handball it is holding the ball. If no prior opportunity, an attempt to dispose is acceptable. They are way too lenient on "prior opportunity".
  14. If roos is smart he'll make sure the afl pay to help him succeed ie draft picks, cash etc. He won't want to be hamstrung by only paying 95% of salary cap, he'll ask for picks to help propel us up and make his job easier. Every advantage in a dog eat dog world. That is, if he decided he wanted to come.
  15. Sites it concern anyone else that Viney is involved? What is his current role in relation to Craig as head coach?
  16. I really hope we get roos. But not only because of the footy (although that will be nice). From a purely academic point of view we actually have a chance to test sine of the seemingly outlandish "if we get x or membership will increase by $Z,000" claims that hear so often! We will learn for sure the impact of picking up the coach on membership.
  17. Nasher spot on. He'd need to play 20 games a year until he was 32 to get there though, unless he picks up an extra bunch of finals games it'll be a tough ask.
  18. DWA!DWA!
  19. I'm not sure who took down Lance but for all anyone cares, ASADA is WADA. WADA are the overarching body and ASADA are the Australian branch who acts in Australia on behalf of WADA. So the USA version of ASADA is on effect still WADA. That is my understanding anyway.
  20. He would be a terrible dancer?
  21. The problem is that it isn't enforced. The rules allow the ball to be knocked free by a bump bit there is never an allowance to drop it. If you haven't had prior opportunity to dispose of the ball and try to handball or kick then it is pay on. If you have had prior opportunity you must execute a correct kick or handball or it is holding the ball. They don't ping players enough for just dropping it. And if a tackle is already being applied then it can't be stopped mid way. The best rule they could bring from Rugby (union) is the advantage rule. Only blow the whistle when you want play to stop, otherwise call advantage. They could also look at the high tackle rule and consider changing it to dangerous tackle to remove the incidental contact or the slip to the shoulder contact which costs a team a goal but is accidental, incidental and no danger to anyone. But I doubt this will happen under the current head is sacred view, which is probably fair enough.
  22. Mark? Is that you?
  23. One of the worst is the player who has the ball, is tackled, drops the ball or just lets it go, and then gets a free for holding the man. They should take a lead out of the rugby book, if you are tackled with the ball it is unreasonable to expect the tackler to stop his tackle mid-tackle. He can't see the ball has spilled, and in his fraction of a second he can't change his actions or momentum. Why penalise what was a legal tackle and reward an illegal disposal?
  24. Create a new role! Neil Craig - assistant coach, player mentor
  25. I won't dispute the bad decisions or the not attacking the ball, however woke he did have a bad match a couple of weeks ago re turnovers this week his disposal was fine.
