  1. Do you have Kennedy in that list twice?
  2. Just think how far we have come. Seriously. When was the last season you saw a "best 22 for year" thread where we didn't include at least one unnamed draft pick? I.e. named pick 3 on the bench, or even better yet, named a potential draftee as if we already had picked them? I think we'd probably be going back at least 5 years. Our list must be improving.
  3. Awful pun off? You blokes aren't Lyon. But I'm not sure about Bugg. Someone needs to conVince me that we aren't just trying to keep up with the Jones'. I am happy with Melksham though; his added toughness will help keep Watts out of Harmes way.
  4. I think that is pretty balanced although I'd say we are stealing pick 49 which doesn't really need to be involved. If that is the case, from a list pov we effectively swap Howe for Melksham, and get Kennedy, picks 29 and 49 for Toumpas. Which is a win overall.
  5. It won't be rectified completely but it will a) increase competitiveness against other lesser midfielder in the short term possibly enabling us to win those Hanes against st kilda or essendon, and b) it will provide support to Brayshaw, Petracca et al as they develop.
  6. Weren't they suspended with pay while awaiting the outcome of the verdict?
  7. CB is right. Free Agenecy is a mechanism that only works if clubs own the contract in between and can trade players without their approval. At the moment the players can veto everything then leave when they want, which hamstrings clubs.
  8. We don't even look the same!
  9. And he lays exactly the same tackle on the second player who just doesn't happen to hit his head.
  10. Would this still get 3 weeks today? There is a definite second movement but Dangerfield kicking the ball is what caused the twisting.
  11. Happened to come across this thread when searching the interwebs for some information on beep tests, and thought the thread was worth a laugh for any of us who have been around here for a while. Importantly, I don't think Alex Stopp was ever drafted, however he did play at Norwood (along with a fine list of players for SANFL that year with lots getting a go at the big league http://www.safooty.net/norwoodredlegs/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4993)
  12. One of the reasons his committment and his quotes mean so much to me - as a supporter - is that it shows that our playing list is turning the corner. Despite the hell we've been through, the players who are still with us are players who want to turn it around, who love the club and want the success. With all due respect to Frawley, who suffered as a defender in a poor team, he got out of there when he could. That sort of attitude would have hung around like a miasma, the idea that "I need to chase success elsewhere" as opposed to the drive to achieve success at Melbourne. As we look to improve players number 15-30 on our list through trades this year (Melksham, Kennedy, et al) we will become more competitive as we will run a bit deeper, and that drive will build towards success. This sort of commitment from a senior player is a big thing for Melbourne. Potentially an external turning point for the club.
  13. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-10-07/colin-garland-contract Show's that you can't read much into "body language" on field. After reading that I am ecstatic he has signed on. Exactly the type of person we need around the club as we build forward.
  14. In his defence he has been running for a few weeks.
  15. Did you make the part about the reliable source up????
  16. I think any second forward needs to be ruck capable. Weideman may be, I don't know, but for that reason I would be trying to fill the spot with a player who is a genuine ruck forward.
  17. I dialect to some extent we are stalling to see what we can get for him and if no decent trade offers come up, we'll meet the market value contact. No point agreeing on contract details now only to ask him to be traded in a fortnight.
  18. Alai is there anything stopping Dangerfield signing with Geelong on a 1 year, 2 million contract to avoid the "matching" by adelaide then shortly after resigning for 5 years at a lesser value?
  19. Agreed. My point is that he may not be flexible in where he goes now. But if Adelaide match the offer and Geelong won't come to the party with a trade he may suddenly become a bit more flexible (i.e. "lots of money is a acceptable second choice")
  20. IF we are actively chasing Dangerfield and he is considering there are two outcomes. A) he doesn't care about money, only wants to go to Geelong but Feeling won't offer a realistic trade, we are offering more (to Adelaide), Dangerfield isn't willing to go into the draft and call Adelaide bluff so he accepts Melbourne offer, knowing that at least he gets lots of money. Or B) He is willing to consider melbournes offer at the outset, decides it is an attractive offer and nominates Melbourne - Adelaide may not be able to match. Question, if Adelaide matched our offer and we refused to trade for him, does he have to sign for Adelaide or can he go draft? IF he can go draft, then any club who matches an RFA offer risks losing the compensation they would have got.
  21. There is talk that we can't spend big cap space on a "big fish" because we need to keep the money for Hogan, but given that Hogan is contacted for the next two years I reckon one of the best ways to get him to sign that extension is to land a big fish midfielder who will deliver to him up forward.
  22. I agree but only in respect to trade price. Salary cap space? Meh.
  23. I'd consider putting it on the table or at least dangling it (or similar) to the media. Even if just to make it hard for Geelong.
  24. 100%. If Pick 6 equals either a gun kid who may or not be a player OR Hamish Hartlett who will impact for 6 years from round 1 then i know what I'd choose.
  25. But I'm sure his current employer was quite happy with his new resource. What an odd thing to say?
