  1. Sorry wise, I may need to be clearer with my sarcasm in future! There were big rumbles about us and Dangerfield last year. There was no way we weren't getting Brayshaw so we were defs keeping a top 3 pick. All the rumors suggest we put an offer on the table for Dangerfield. We know that Trengove for 12 was a done deal if he passed the medical. I think it is much more likely that we were looking to secure pick 12 to on trade for a player than looking to stock up on first round picks. Following on from lamashtu, perhaps we were willing to part with picks 2 and 3 for Dangerfield if we were able to get a kid in Lever?
  2. If Danger was any chance to come here we would have had to be looking to trade off a potential gun like Jack Trengove for a first round pick, say pick 12, so that we could satisfy the crows. Since we didn't try and do that trade its clear that Dangerfield wasn't interested in coming to Melbourne last year.
  3. On talent alone he is a potential A grader. Can accumulate, strong over head, kicks goals, good disposal. Do I expect him to all be able to be an A grade? Probably not.
  4. Given his trade was mooted as part of a larger trade that would have netted us Dangerfield I would hardly think they thought he was worth nothing. Pick 12 is better than a packet of twisties.
  5. If anything, I'd like Roos to sign for a4th year, as a "Director of Coaching" or "Youth Development Coach" or "Player Welfare Coach" or "Culture/Leadership Director" or similar and hang around to provide guidance, mentoring and keep supporting the leadership group but keeping out of Goodwins way, to further ease the transition.
  6. If we hand to Goodwin fully now and don't improve out of sight we will be hounded by the media. In 2017 when we are 4 and 8 at round 12 media pressure could result in a turnover of coaches again. Roos status as no.1 in 2016 takes all the pressure off Goodwin as he finds his feat. But more importantly, it gives the footy dept. an extra 12 months stability to turn over the list, develop the kids, rebuild the culture etc. before the preformed becomes Goodwins responsibility. If we ate a bit flat in 2016, Roos takes the heat plus we get to have a 4th list turn over under the same footy department before Goodwin gets a couple of years to build a premiership side. Replacing him earlier than planned just gets rid of all the time that we need to get better that we bought ourselves with the succession plan.
  7. While it is harsh it is true. It is clear that it takes 3-4 preseasons for a coach to make the list theirs. And if you have to prune as heavily as we have it takes time for the new players to gel and for it all to click. By the start of next preseason, Roos will have done that, and Godwin will be able to mould the list unencumbered with the past.
  8. I agree it may not be a good idea but if a politician makes a promise I reckon it is worthy of implementation. That being said, foxing the level crossings will benefit both labor and liberal electorates which is a good thing. Despite our ex-PMs views public transport is actual a bipartisan effort that benefits all so good to see it going ahead.
  9. Another promise he has kept. Are you saying that you don't think UFC should be allowed?
  10. Interstate viewers who are trekking across will come any day they please, public holiday or not. They will spend their money in the city on that Friday, public holiday or not.
  11. Can you still but the Mac with an age statement? I've jumped off it but there are sobe other amazing sherry finished around.
  12. This is a BS argument and the sarcastic jibes about 4 day weeks prove that you can't extract your head and consider a view other than your strongly held view which is possibly relevant to your particular circumstance but not necessarily relevant to all across the state. In all casual positions I've ever held (particularly in hospo) public holidays are the times when you get extra shifts. Employers don't get to choose of full time staff get the Friday off or not and if they need staff they will engage casuals. But anecdotes from my or your side mean SFA when discussing the merits of the holiday. I know not all businesses will open and I know this will cost some businesses money (especially consulting firms such as mine which have no way of recouping this money) but many hospo and tourism based businesses will open and will make more money than usual due to increased trade. And any smartly run business will factor this into prices when doing budget and business planning. Yep at short notice this might be difficult this year but it won't make a difference next year. Double pay for a single day increases your total annual staff cost by 0.38% (based on 260 working days for the year). 0.38% ! If staff costs are 70% of your business cost then your overall business cost increase is 0.27%!!!!!!! That's less than 1c on a coffee worth $3. To anyone complaining about this, stop whinging and run your business better. If you can't accommodate this your business model is wrong.
  13. Whether anyone likes the public holiday or not (and whether they like labor or not - personally I don't like the union driven politics but that doesn't matter here), the current Daniel Andrews led government is one of the few governments we've had recently that has followed through on its promises (rightly or wrongly) after an election. They are actually doing what they said they'd do. It makes for a nice change.
  14. Fixed your quote for you.
  15. Add to your list of benefits:Casual workers who get extra shifts because the full/part timers get the day off Kids/parents/families who potentially get another day together. Businesses who will benefit from increased staff production given an extra mental break. Your premise that the benefits go to people who don't need it or who are cross is false. It is just as easily argued that those put our most are the companies that run the businesss and make all the profits while all workers get paid a standard wage and therefore all workers who get extra time off are the winners (i.e. the massive majority of individuals).
  16. Yep, and so they can. Up to them.If you are running your business so close to the line that additional staff costs on a single public holiday are going to put you out of business then your business isn't viable and you should probably shut out down.
  17. Not entirely true either. Yes emergency services staff worked but all were compensated with additional leave (e.g. police get no public holidays but 9 weeks annual leave per year). Train drivers are a good one, I'm not sure what their deal was. Pubs, fast food, supermarkets etc. were all closed. If you employed more than 10 (I think) people you weren't allowed to open.
  18. If anyone is silly enough to complain about Easter Sunday public holiday then they surely should just shut their doors and miss out on business. Until about 5 years ago Easter Sunday was a "no trade" day. That meant no employee had to work it. When they allowed trading, they didn't also make it a public holiday. How ridiculous is that?
  19. Screenshot which was posted on Facebook. Could be a hoax but not sure to what end.
  20. As a first year player he would have no idea. There have been no substantiating rumors which means, if true, no one knows.
  21. Did you guys see what Petracca wrote back though? "Adelaide called. They want you back @patrickdangerfield " Amazing!
  22. Given he has been running for at least a month now I hope he is able to really ramp it up over summer and shake off the inactivity and the potential soft tissue injuries that may occur. He still has 7 months until go time next season. So surely there is no time pressure to get him right. Will be a handy addition if he can get back. Also the leadership award is an amazing recognition of the character of this bloke. If he can get back on the park and have a successful career those qualities will be very beneficial to our list.
  23. They may as well make FA after 5 years for all but give clubs the ability to trade without player approval. If it works both ways the system will be fairer.
  24. jnrmac in 100% with you on this. The best way i can see to fix this is: A) All teams in the bottom 6/8/10 get a priority pick at the start of the second round every year as standard (and get rid of all other pp's). This enables faster list regeneration for the bottom sides. Teams will get up quicker and sustained success will really be earnt. B) allow clubs to play below the minimum cap. Work another mechanism to ensure the players ask get their entitlements as per the CBA (collective pooling and distribution of the remaining money or similar). This will show lower clubs to actually target quality free agents with cash. C) In a pipe dream, even the fixture for exposure (won't happen because of $$$). I think the top two will go a long way to solving the problem.
  25. Here's the thing for me. We need to improve the list as efficiently as we can. If we can trade out our first pick for starting 22 player and get a pick within the top 20 back out is a no brainer. We effectively get two for one and we need more than two players to improve. Yes a top 10 talent has a better chance of making it than a top 20 talent but i reckon we are splitting hairs - I'd rather 2 AFL quality starting players than one. When it comes to Bennell, on field he is everything we need. If Roos backs us in to keep him straight, perfect. I think our culture has come along way in 2 years. The cub is stable, the players are stable. They are good character if not strong leaders, but we do have some strong leaders coming through.
