  1. That is what really annoys me. These decisions are to AFL discretion, and nothing should be left to the discretion of that mob. They are incompetent. We actually needed a PP last year, and we qualified under the old system. But now the AFL done away with that system, they now decide their own method, and they do so on the run. It is a joke. Carlton traded Jacob, Grigg, Betts, Garlett. Three of those players would be in their top 5 players if they were still on the list. They bungled the Lucas pick - in which they got for Fevola. If Carlton are malingering at the bottom, that is largely their own doing - mismanagement. Why reward that? Same as Brisbane. Brisbane have actually had QUALITY talent, Polec, Yeo, Longer, Crisp, yet the Lions didn't create an environment required to keep these players, so rewarding them with a PP is just a waste, they need to fix their environmnent, only then should they be rewarded with a PP. MFC should get a PP before those teams even now, because we have improved, we've improved our culture under Roos and the AFL should reward that if anything. Not that I think any team really needs a PP, but the AFL shouldn't reward mismanagement.
  2. He had a lot weaknesses in his game before this season. Viney only had one pace, I wouldn't knock anyone who raised doubts about JV prior to this year. In saying that, his ability to identify his weaknesses and work on them should be commended. He was rewarded by a top 2 finished in the B&F, that is a great effort.
  3. I'm not against up taking Melsham, just not for a second rounder. I have no idea what the club is prepared to give for him, but I think Essendon will ask for our second round pick. I wouldn't do that, there are some good kids in this draft around that point. If we could get Melksham for a 3rd round pick, sure, no harm in that. He is a big bodied kid, and he does have some upside.
  4. Nah, no hand outs to bottom sides, definitely not. Bottom teams need to build good cultures and create environments wherein top players want to reside. This is largely where Brisbane have failed, and failured miserably. They drafted Yeo, Polec, Crisp and Longer, all of who can seriously play. But Brisbane failed to create an enjoyable environment. These players up and left, now Brisbane want a PP. This issue is largely their own doing, and no amount of draft picks are going to fix that. Now they even have near veteran players leaving (Redden). The answer for bottom teams isn't a sliding scale, and it isn't draft picks. The answer is to create a place where individuals want to play. Look at Collingwood as a good example, they have the best facilities in the competition, they emphasize professionalism, and that pays off. Even in the face of a few off field issues, Collingwood is still a place where individuals want to play footy.
  5. Because free agency works for the top clubs. So the bottom clubs need PP's and compo more than ever. Getting rid of compo isn't practical.
  6. So long as we don't give away our second rounder for him, then no harm. I would hate to give away our second rounder only to miss out on Lovell. I think Essendon will ask for our second rounder, I just hope we aren't going to give it up for Melksham.
  7. On the AFL site it says we've put a 4 year deal in front of Melksham.
  8. Yeah, a lot of love here. I liked Salem ahead of him in the draft. But I'd offer Collingwood our second rounder pick for Freeman. He does have weaknesses, but so did Viney at this time last year. If we can fix VIney up - which we have - then I'd like to see what we could do with Freeman.
  9. He'll have good delivery too. At least while Sandilands is still around, I think they can get 2 more years out of him.
  10. We need to get Bernie to 100 games because he's probably got about 10 kids.
  11. Phil Read.
  12. Out of contract GWS player with genuine upside, close with Tyson apparently. What are peoples' thoughts about Tomlinson? And what do you think he'd cost? A starting point could be our second rounder, or a straight swap for Howe. Note - not out of contract.
  13. Howe would be asking for 600k, not 450k. We'd pay Howe 450k over 4, I would, I expect the club would do that without many dramas. I just get the feeling Howe is asking upwards of 600k, which is just not practical for MFC, but other clubs are probably offering him 550-600k. If that is the case, let him walk. That is just my estimation of where this is at, pure speculation, like everything else atm.
  14. It will. Definitely great news for MFC. West Coast are also stocked up on forwards. This is fantastic.
  15. Not a chance I'd offer up a first round pick, not for this kid. On talent he is probably with 3 consecutive first round picks. Bennell is trouble.
  16. Nothing could drive Leunberger's price into band 1 compo. No club will pay 600k for Leunberger. I think at the very most, and only if a side really wanted Leunberger, they'll offer 500k. But that is absolute maximum IMO, he just hasn't been on the park enough, hasn't always performed, and is injury prone. Kreuzer on the other hand, he has performed, has more upside, is more versatile (can play forward), but is probably even more injury prone than Leunberger. I think teams are running a big risk to trade for either player, I seriously doubt there will be a price war for them. I hope Carlton don't get pick 2, I would be extremely surprised if they did. And Leunberger is at best a band 2 compo prospect.
  17. Robin Williams is a totally different case to either. To my knowledge, Williams was into child support and alimony for a ridiculous amount - as happens in the US. Williams was often outspoken about this, I think he once said alimony/CS "rips your heart out through your wallet". I think there is very little doubt the cause of Williams death. He wasn't a rich man by any means, at least not in the end. I couldn't draw a comparison to Buddy, at least not with Williams. Franklin obviously has his issues, but many of us also have our issues, we just don't have them broadcasted in a public manner, and we aren't public property, and don't face the daily pressures that come with being an AFL footballer in the modern climate.
  18. Yeah I'd trade for him. I'd go as far as our second round selection. But I think Essendon would want more than that. Melksham can play, there is no doubt about that. But he is bland, that is why I wouldn't offer too much. I think a second rounder is nearly even overs. * But that isn't taking into account the WADA case coming up. So we'd need some guarantees off the AFL of compensation if this went pear shaped.
  19. Bennell has bigger problems than alcohol and weed. When Guy McKenna comes out and says that GC will derive the benefit of a pick 2 - with Bennell gone - that should tell everyone where its at. But, McKenna still has to take some responsibility, because GC did not do their homework. Bennell has been a naughty boy for quite some time.
  20. Yeah, and a bit high on himself. You can tell that Carlisle really rates himself. I'm not sure we need a guy like that.
  21. Burgoyne should be no where near that squad. It is laughable that he is even spoken of as as AA this year. He has looked completely shot at stages this year.
  22. Vince was stiff to miss out. But given the average bunch of selectors, I doubt Bernie will lose much sleep over it.
  23. Slow down on the grog champ.
  24. He could feel a weight off of his shoulders now this mental health issue is out in the public.
  25. Nothing pick wise. But probably around 500k a year. I could see us going to 550k if we had to, and didn't have anyone else lined up. That is overs, so it really is hard to say with Kreuzer, but speculation has him going at 500k, so realistically it would take another 50k to get him to MFC.
