  1. He's give Schwarz a nice whack. Onya Jesse, keep it up.
  2. Trengove actually looks like a footballer thesedays, he is chiseled muscle. His junior form surpassed anyone on our list, he was exceptional, I remember watching him thinking he'd be something very special. If he can get on top of this injury, then I see no reason why Trengove cannot reach his potential. This is our Robbie Gray type player, had some injuries, has plenty of talent, hopefully he gets a decent run at it now.
  3. Hogan should only change his run up if it is not working for him. More often than not, he has dobbed goals using the same run up. I'd say that up until now it has been a successful run up. The only thing with the weekend is that he was dropping marks, was clearly frustrated, and it probably impacted his ability to do things he would otherwise do naturally.
  4. Hopefully they remain ordinary and we poach Josh Kelly.
  5. I agree. Pretty easy decision. Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney, Oliver and Salem, are as promising as any young midfield in the game. That is a relentless, tough and classy midfield. After this year, I expect Gawn will also be a top 3 ruckman in the league. Whereas Sandilands is on borrowed time.
  6. It is pointless playing him in the two's when he is one of our better players in the one's (at least he was today). Pick players on form. He doesn't deserve to be dropped back to the reserves, that wouldn't be a good precedent to set, we should be rewarded our young players when they have good games - as we did with Brayshaw last year.
  7. I thought Young had his hands free. If he did have his hands free, and Oliver got fined, he can consider himself very stiff. Nevertheless, the game is shifting in the area of non contact. I think it is inevitable.
  8. Just get the ball in the hands of J.Watts. Play Watts as a high half forward (flank or centre-half), and he will hit up Jesse with ease. If you wanted a more radical alternative, send Gawn to FF when he is resting, Hogan to CHF, and Watts to the back line as a lose man or sweeper. Either would work. But an even easier solution would be allowing Salem to have more midfield time, and also the addition of B.Vince.
  9. Things I noticed: Watts played really well. Viney looks an elite midfielder. Gawn dominates. Oliver looks likely (and looks quite tall, has a great build, real goer). Kent can sell candy with the best of them. Jetta looks polished, looked classy. Salem - see Jetta. Hogan looks massive, 100kg plus, beast, will be hard to stop, even dominates the ruck (in forward line) when he wants. Kennedy was typical Kennedy, exceptional. Good game all round.
  10. They were probably a bit surprised it was such a talking point - so early (the media has been on it for a while). I think its best to put it to bed early in the season, because there will be speculation around guys coming out of contract at the end of the year. That conversation should take centre stage now, and Hogan should get a relatively easy run (media wise), at least till the end of the year. MFC have time, and would be assuming Hogan is going to sign, so we treat him accordingly, and protect him from the media. I think it is the best course of action to come out and declare Jesse will be waiting till the end of the year. Then the media can turn to more immediate players coming out of contract. I don't think it is something we'd do if Jesse was entering his last year of his contract. But in this instance, we need to protect him.
  11. Teams at the bottom are going to have to adapt or die. Even the top side like Hawthorn is always looking for new ways to improve, they are relentless innovators, and they drag the game with them. The bottom teams are always in a position where it pays to think outside of the box. I think Roos has done that brilliantly - Salem/Tyson trade, Vince trade, Vandenberg. If anything, it just goes to show what a good coach can do. MFC will be on the up this year. Bottom sides can rise up the ladder, they just need the right coach, and a bit of luck in drafting.
  12. I agree. There is no need for the media to do a lot of things. In this instance I don't mind it though, because if Hogan is going to sign, he will. If he isn't going to sign, then he will have to squirm for the whole of 2017, and I wouldn't pity him. But in saying that, I think he will sign. We have the best young list in the competition, and Fremantle will be struggling by 2018. No Pavlich, Sandilands, Barlow, Mundy (most likely), McPharlin, Johnson. Fremantle are in for a whole world of pain, and they will have to fight hard to keep Weller. Bennell is no certainty to be there, and as good as Fyfe is, he is injury prone. I don't see Fremantle being a top 8 side, and I see us being a top 4 side, so I doubt Hogan leaves. Footballers want success. I bet Buddy is kicking himself missing out on the last couple of flags at Hawthorn.
  13. It is actually good for MFC that the media are heaping pressure on. I want to see players have to squirm when they say that they are putting contract talks off until the end of the year. Players should just come out and say they are leaving. The current system incentivizes them to lie, that surely cannot be a good thing. If I were a player I would be straight up with everyone and say, no, I am leaving. McCarthy did it, only thing is, he wasn't out of contract, and then pulled the 'golden ticket' (mental health card).
  14. I won't be watching it this year. If 360 want to support drug cheats then that is their choice, but I won't be watching the show. Heppell is currently serving a ban, it is not like he has even served his time, and got himself in a position to even warrant a second chance. Each to their own on this one, but I was already leaning towards not watching the show prior to Heppell's appointment.
  15. No they didn't, especially Plowman.
  16. GWS had 11 picks in the first round of the 2011 draft. It was a very substandard draft (if you go look at it, not many have fired a shot, very weak draft). But, to rub salt into the wounds, GWS on-traded two of their better selections (Adams and Tyson). Unfortunately for GWS they followed up the next year by taking O'rourke and Plowman ahead of Stringer, Wines, McRae. Both drafts weren't strong at all, but to on-trade two of your better picks, and to overlook some quality kids the next year. It isn't good drafting.
  17. I know, it is disgraceful. The AFL shouldn't incentivize drug cheating the way they do. I expect they will do away with WADA soon. First the AFL reward Essendon (as a club) with inclusion in the upcoming draft, and then they reward the players financially. If the AFL get their way (and do away with WADA), then the next time this type of thing happens, they will just cover it up - like they cover everything else up.
  18. Because Viney would've been worth bidding on. We still would've did the Hogan trade IMO. It is only speculation to suggest there was some sort of deal with GWS not to bid on Viney.
  19. I always thought GWS should've bidded on Jack Viney. We landed him at a bargain pick in the 20's, he was always going to be a top 3 player of that draft.
  20. We have the opposite problem in regards to Viney. If he goes in too hard, we won't have him at all (rubbed out). I would like to see Oliver just run straight through Parish when we play them.
  21. I only watch the NAB cup for supercoach purposes. But even then, I probably put too much weight into NAB Cup performances.
  22. For a start, not everyone supports women's football.
  23. Nah, separate sections is good, keeps the politics out of the main forum. For those only interested in footy (and not gender politics), then the separate sections will be appreciated (from my perspective anyway).
  24. Wouldn't read too much into it. There appears to be a push to get people to stop eating meat (full stop).
  25. Roos is a proud bloke, I don't think he'll take off before we see inroads. He won't want to sit among the media and listen to them take pot shots at him over MFC. If Roos can manage to get this club back on course, his standing among the media will be sky high. I don't think he'll take off over 2016. I think he will stay on for another couple of years after this year.
