But . .. but . . . he got in a fight!
-
Agree with most of what is said on here, however; Bartram - dropped two absolute sitters of marks (uncontested) that directly cost us two goals. Not ****ing good enough. Would have been a decent game if not for these howlers. Howe - this kid is looking good, but he is a TERRIBLE set shot at goal. Davey - missed a very vital set shot at goal early in the game (when it wasn't raining); trying to do some smartass snap round the corner. Not good enough from a senior player. Our best: McKenzie, Jamar, Jones, Garland, McDonald Our worst: Watts & Trengove. Who woulda thunk it? I also thought Bate was great at making space but was refused the ball by his teammates far too often.

I heard Mitch Clark is out there? Can anyone confirm?
-
I want to see beer and lots of it.
-
Good: Mitch Clark (until injury), Nathan Jones, Brent Moloney, Aaron Davey believing in himself again. Bad: Frawley looking dangerous whilst not actually being dangerous. Bartram who did a terrible job on Dalhaus in the first half (and somehow escapes criticism here again!). Ugly: Morton, MacDonald and McDonald all made disgusting decisions and turnovers repeatedly. I don't know what people see in TMac, he has a knack for never doing the right thing. Back to Casey for the time being.

It's well known that his style at APS-level was quite different to his current role at Hawthorn. HFC developed him perfectly into the gamebreaker he is today.

Our team is 80% senior players in this match. Experienced players are so much more important that we knew.
-
Our kit was much better back then.

Why the heck did we recruit Brian Royal back!?

I miss when Brett Ratten was our midfield coach! -
No more comments from players .....please

The backline put in a 4 quarter effort yesterday. To have 35-less inside 50s and 160 less disposals and only lose by 10 goals is a testament to the quality of our backline, as strange as that may sound. The thing that was worst yesterday was our manning up. Noticeably appalling, none of our midfield were looking after their opponents. This is Football 101, not difficult stuff. Another issue is our deadweight players who don't contribute over the course of the game: (this year) Martin, McKenzie, Bartram, Bail, Bate, Jamar (around the ground). Morton, Sellar and McDonald are also never going to turn games. That's 9 out of 22! Hard times ahead. -
Joel Selwood is tougher than our entire list put together. Nearly broke his jaw and then just got up and got on with it! I get more joy out of watching Geelong's gutsy performances than I do watching the Dees these days. Sigh

Have we really got only 8 players over the age of 25? Compared to Hawthorn's 19? That is the most staggering statistic. When you have very few older players, and they aren't much good, and neither are the younger players (one factor of this being aforementioned lousy senior players), you have a diabolically bad football list.

In these situations with pyramid-scheme type ventures one co-founder is usually as insane as the other. The MFC has run from this crowd, and if you are reading this, don't touch them with a twenty foot pole.
-
Never in doubt. What a start to a season.
-
Spot on. I suggest everyone gets gets off Demonland and BigFooty, stops reading the sport section, and spends some quality time with the fam this weekend. All this hysteria over the MFC can be easily avoided. http://keepmeout.com/en/

Jon Ralph went through our first round picks this morning from 2001 onwards and I felt like slitting my wrists. Some people (Rudeboy mentioned it) will point to the shabby development of players at this club for the past 10 years but in truth it's a combination of rubbish development and recruiting. The one that kills me is Jack Darling. More than any other. 'He's not a nice boy, he can't come here'. Makes me feel ill. Whatever Neeld does, he will be an absolute tactical genius if he can get us winning more games than we lose.

No Nonsense Neeld ... Let the Fallout Begin.

If average teams like Essendon and Port can put in effort every week, I expect us to do the same. God knows our list might be worse than those two clubs. -
We are completely useless interstate and have been for 10 years and this is unlikely to change come Saturday. Eagles by 67 points, with us winning the last quarter.
-
Deck chairs. Titanic.

Craig Cameron and Barry Prendergast ... What have you done!
Geddy Lee replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
As I said last week, it ain't looking good. -
Well I hope this is true, because God help us if everything is A-OK and we still play like we did yesterday.
-
Not surprised at the typical Demonland meltdown - it's nearly as bad now as when we lost to West Coast last year. Agree with BRFE's sentiments. It's not all doom and gloom. Our backline is solid and a forward line that could potentially have Jurrah, Petterd, Howe, Watts, Clark and Martin playing together is a real weapon. However Jamar, Davey, Green are not cutting it, and our midfield is truly god-awful. If your midfield's this bad, it makes your entire team look woeful. Not very excited about Bate, Blease, Bartram, McKenzie and MacDonald being in the one team. That's a lot of one-trick ponies (although I'm not sure of Bate's trick yet).

Round 6 1994: Jimmy and the boys (Dees v Wobbles)
Geddy Lee replied to Robbie57's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hate to say it but I watched that game and it was absolute garbage. It was basically kick to kick, early 90s footy was a completely different sport to what AFL is now. This game in particular was a very poor standard. Nostalgia does funny things to our brains. -
Our midfield will be as slow as treacle no matter what combination we go for. I'd rather we have bigger bodies in there.
