  1. As Jimmy's speech is on the Herald Sun site and can be viewed here, I will only post the video of Mark Neeld's speech at the 2011 Best & Fairest Awards Night. Here it is. Excuse the poor quality and sound of knives and forks and all the waiters running around. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubc4Tk5XTPs

  2. The funniest "I wish I hadn't said that" line tonight goes to Nathan Jones who on accepting his award said.. "And thanks to my girlfriend for putting up with a little [censored] for a lot of the year."

  3. The Eagles are travelling to Los Pollos Hermanos before the game tonight to get a 'winning edge'; must be something in the chicken.

  5. hehe there's some great material on that white maggott website, i like this one too "In a public relations coup for the largely irrelevant organisation, the North Melbourne Football Club was named Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation at the annual SHUNPROFIT awards overnight. The Kangaroos beat home The Smith Family, MS Australia, World Vision and a raft of community-based West African NGO’s to take out the coveted prize. Club president James Brayshaw said the award recognised North Melbourne’s steadfast commitment to maintaining a steadily increasing and unsustainable defecit for the past thirty years. “No other club could’ve operated under these conditions” Brayshaw said as stared at the black hole which doubles as the club’s balance sheet. “And I’m not speaking out of pride… we haven’t been a going concern since 1997… legally, no other club could’ve operated under these conditions… we’ve just somehow slipped through the cracks.” Brayshaw, who earlier this year was investigated by ASIC after he attempted to treat the “shinboner spirit” as an intangible asset for the purposes of the club’s financial reports, then took the opporunity to launch the Kangaroos’ innovative 2012 funding campaign. “I’m proud to announce that from 2012 the North Melbourne Football Club will be treated as a charity for the purposes of the Income Tax Assessment Act” Brayshaw said. “It’s only fair given we’ve fed, clothed and sheltered Nathan Grima and Scott Thompson all these years.”

  6. Can't accept that with possibly a few clubs in the mix.

  7. Interesting to hear about Lyon and McLardy hitting the desk a few times... I would have been the same - "Mark, these boys need a effing coach (smash desk) not a mate. Your first meeting should be a short introduction and then a explanation of what horrors will await them if they don't harden up (smash desk). I don't care what Mike Sheahan thinks of us so fark the media (smash desk), I care that young Demons don't want to go to with their dads to the footy because we have been so [censored] embarrassing (smash desk)."

  8. Yes, it was great to see real old fashioned footy! Man on man contests, ball moving freely, great spoils, not the far too often seen footy basketball. Good DIRECT stuff. Hawks were stiff but that's Collingwood's ability to lift. I was so passionate wanting Collingwood to lose that I almost sweated on the Hawks to win like I do my beloved Dees! ALMOST I said! No, Hawthorn is not one of my favourite teams, it was just WHO they were playing.

  9. Very interesting opening speech. Thanks Andy for your input. Very much appreciated. Sorry for cold dinner. Felt warmth and sincerety from him, seems the club will fully back him, especially in the area of football department. Now the investment in 8 full time coaches, we can see the full development of our players. Now it is up to them. Go Dees.

  10. The SME finished 8th - an incredible effort for a career that was on the brink of death at the start of the season. Well done Stef. It seems no "most improved" was awarded but he'd have been a monty for it for mine.

  11. Okay, so we don't have a ripping coach.

  12. I suppose the Pies did finish a bit stronger but the umpires didn't miss a thing their way in the last 5 minutes.....what happened to the old "put the whistle away" late in the last quarter of a tight final ? Bateman's repetitive errors made sure of it !

  14. Chris Dawes is exactly the player that we need. He presented all night, crashed every pack, tackled ferociously, and threw his body at the ball and player at every opportunity...and kicked three goals. He is exactly the player that we need. We should be doing everything in our power to get him.

  15. Yeah - He was terrible He just kicked 3 in The Preliminary & crashed the pack open nearly every time the ball went forward for The Filth tonight. Why would we need him?

  16. I had lost faith in this guy living till today and there he is suiting up giving a speech. Im unaware of anyone tougher, in any realm you could name. I have said goodbye to a close few who have died of cancer and I didnt believe in the power of sheer will power. But I do now. Maybe prayers help too. Go Jimmy.

  17. Does the presence of a 'like' button and most people's natural desire to be liked result in a greater degree of groupthink?

  18. Amazing - he wasn't so outraged when the same thing happened last year to Matthew Knights - oh of course, because Matthew Knights replaced HIM ! the guy's a dick ..

  19. I really don't understand all the love on this site for Dawes. Sure, he's a serviceable key forward in one of the most dominant sides of recent times but is by no means a superstar and definitely not worth a first round pick. He's kicked 50 goals aggregate in the last 2 years with the Pies midfield and Cloke taking the best back. Would much prefer we trade a first round pick for an established young mid (like Josh Kennedy) or a gun 17yo (Jaeger O'Meara) than risk it on a plodder who is currently at his absolute peak trade value in the marketplace. He will never be more expensive.
