I think it may be a good idea, because it does look a bit silly when we play interstate teams and only 16 thousand people are sitting sparingly around the MCG.

For people who have been there what is the ground and facilities like?

Its about 40-45 mins from the CBD...not really that far.

I'd imagine they would have to build a few stands to fit 20,000 in there.

Its an hour and a half drive up and back from the CBD...this brings Biodiesel companies into play as potential sponsors.

I think 20000 is too small. 25g at a pinch . then we have something.

The nature of footy is going to go through another change as the 17th and 18th teams come on line.

These teams will themselves in all likely hood play at grounds of around 25 thou capacity.

Points to consider..

*Growth corridors into the near future. The Casey..( pakenham.,berwick..etc etc etc ) areas have seen huge growth..and esp pak looking forward will evolve enormously.

*We need new blood

*we need bums on seats

* we're looking at some sort of tie into area anyways

* preference of Eastern people to Dome or Closer ground ?

* look at the smarter other clubs..look at hawks cultivation of Tassie etc.

Persoanlly Id rather travel to Casey than to Telstra !!

I dunno... needs more delving into...but theres a certain upside to all this !!

Its not abandoning our roots... just spreading them possibly ....interesting

Im not sure public transport would be ideal at Casey Fields, that train line you speak of hasn't been used for years and the current Cranbourne station is some distance away from the ground.

You obviously know the area better than me Dalrot (what does that mean?) I was looking at a map. But it looks like there is some sort of line. Maybe the AFL would support it better than they did Waverley.

There is an old disused line right next to the ground, I'd imagine if they ground did turn into something larger than the government would electrify and fix the line up to be suitable for train services.

There is a lot of speculation, about different possibilities.

A boutique stadium would complement a permanent move, but not a summer training base. Imagine a permanent move, and then getting games (small crowd games – eg against Freo, Western Sydney, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast) back at a “home ground”.

Small 20,000-30,000 seat stadiums can work better financially (eg York Park in Launceston, Blue Tongue Stadium in Gosford or Skilled stadium in Geelong) than opening the MCG for small crowd games.

You should have caught the bus. It leaves Cranbourne Station after every train arrives, and takes you to within 700 metres of Casey Fields.

Is that the only reason?

I suggest you don't "avoid it" rather than have no reason to go there.

If you had the potential to promote football (not just MFC) into one of the biggest growth areas in Aust, and had the means to get there, wouldn't you go?

Im pretty sure that track has been 'promised' by the state government to reopen all the way back to Leongatha so I'd imagine an AFL ground at Casey Fields would not only attract people from the growing SE suburbs, it could quite possibly get people coming from South Gippsland as well.

Of course all this is far out of the MFC's power, but if there was enough money and planning out there from the government and local councils it could work.

Should have done something like this years ago.

It would suit me perfectly living on the Mornington Peninsula
