MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey has indicated the club's new batch of players drafted via the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft and NAB AFL Rookie Draft on Tuesday have the ability to push for senior selection in 2008.

Its exciting the range of players we chose from. A 204cm ruckman, forward, defender and crummer. Time will tell. me thinks that if any will ever be a 10 year player it will only be one of them as stats are strongly against the rookie draft. Good luck boys

This last rookie/PS draft was the last REAL news we've had from MFC, and the last we can expect for a while. I understand the idea of getting their profiles out there, and it's important that it gets done, but there's never ANYTHING interesting in it... Every season it's the same stuff, and nothing ever really happens differently on the field. The thing I hate is that they never fill us in on who's on restricted programs. We have to go to training and do write-ups ourselves.

This is actually when we rely on the cleverness, creativity and good grammar of demonland posters. It's their opinions, but more importantly how they express their opinions that makes demonland and 'ology a cut above the rest.

I think much of the comment from Bailey regarding "they can step up " refers as much ( if not primarily) to a mind set. In the past we as a club , or more patently as supporters have been given the impression that any kids will come on later rather than sooner. it was a very very stifling and conservative standpoint. Our new Coach doesnt share that outlook. All comers can make a effort towards their destinies. Players wil lbe accorded opportunites on merit not a timetable. Its in this light that Dean offers the notion that they can step up in 08. They can , if they are good enough and if they ARE good enough why wouldnt you let them.

All things in their own time, whether that be 5 weeks or 5 months..or a couple of seasons
