Last time I was in Norwood it didn't look like bush to me

He has had one year /12 games in the SANFL which is a pretty ordinary competition if you have ever seen it. It a good gap from even VFL standard. The kid's green and we should grant the reasonable right to develop within the AFL competition and not rush him.

Based on your reasoning, another lightweight by the name of Danyle Pearce would still be rotting away in the SANFL.

You're completely wrong.

There is limitation to how many light body players you can have in an AFL side. At MFC, Pearce and Davey would be potentially fighting it out for one spot. Are you saying Aussie is as good as Pearce? Big call indeed.

If Aussie is realistically going to survive in AFL he needs to be as good (even better) than Davey or improve his build to survive the rigours of AFL.

Never expecting too much, or even expecting the worst, I guess you'll never be dissapointed, safe system. Anything better is a bonus.

Obviously the kid will need to develop, don't they all? But FCS, I'm a realist and watching the videos of his play and his attitude have me pretty confident there's a place for this kid at AFL level.

Watching Aaron run onto the field in the WankCup, scoop up the ball and kick a ripper made everyone go "ooooooooo", he's now a household name.

His brother.

Danyle Pearce and Nathan Krakouer... there's a growing need for these quick pocket types that apply defensive preasure, the indigenous boys usually bring that x-factor with them as well.

You should enjoy the ride, rather than try to knock everyone down a peg or two all the time.

Davey and Pearce fighting out a spot?? wtf! Pearce is more of a midfield then a forward. silky skills on both side of his body and blistering pace.. wins alot of the ball and uses it well. teams would cream to have Davey and Pearce in the one team outrunning everyone.

Aussie has the build thats for sure, so i dont know what ur on about. look at andrew krackour managed to play 100 games plus with his slight skinny frame. to me aussie has the attitude that he wants to achieve his goal and become and good AFL player.

Who mentioned anything about rushing him in? I didn't and it's irrelevant to my query.

Are you seriously saying that playing for Norwood is the equivalent to being plucked from the 'bush'?

I'd be way more concerned about uprooting a somewhat naive Tiwi islander and plonking him in a professional Melbourne sporting environment for starters.

Sure he went to Norwood but that's Adelaide. A home away from home.

File under 'special project' but good luck to him and I hope he makes it.

How many sub 80kg players can you feasibly play in an AFL team?

BTW, both Davey and Pearce are exciting players on their day but their lack of body size limits their capabilities. If Aussie is as good as Pearce then he might challenge for Davey's role. But there are many aspects of his game that need to be developed. I think some posters may be premature on his selection in the 2008 pre season competition especially given that there are another 10 new faces on the club list and many others with AFL experience needing to prove themselves after poor and injury ravaged seasons.

Its a pretty ordinary competition in SANFL and if he has only played 12 games its hardly pedigree.

He's kid, he's raw. I would suggest he is a project player that needs development.

Are you old enough to remember the majestic Maurice Rioli? Tiwi Islander played for St Mary's in Darwin went to WAFL for a season then to Richmond in 1982. 118 games of pure beauty.

Add Michael Long to the list.

Whilst he is from the islands, I am not sure he has spent that much time there over the last few years, spending most of his time playing footy in Darwin and Adeldide. A friend of mine spoke to him today and he is wraped to be joining the MFC.

There are a few Tiwi Islanders I would love to see in the red and blue (none more so than Ephram Tipungwuti) but know they would never adapt to the riggers of AFL. I am not nearly as concerened about Aussie in this regard.

This is one of the worst statements I have ever seen or heard!!!

I am a passionate Victorian and will be until the day I die.... I now live in Adelaide and cannot believe your ignorance!

The SANFL is by far and away the strongest state based competition in the country! After attending years of VFL matches and now 2 years of SANFL I am totally convinced that the SANFL is better! I would be willing to bet my left [censored] on this! Nah.... Actually make it the whole damn meat and potatoes!!

A good gap from even VFL standards?!?!?!?! Ha Ha Ha!

Not only are you lacking excitement/positivity in your life, you are also obviously having trouble with your eyes/brain....

I tend to agree...

But it's still in Adelaide, and therefore irrelevant

I have lots of rellies in Adelaide and I can't stand the ill-informed, anti-Victorian generalisations that some of them come up with (and truly believe)!! Besides, I bet that Rivers and Belly would have something to say about that.

So let's not get into generalisations here (except about the pies, of course....... .

I agree KJ, his assessment of Norwood and the SANFL is bewildering, especially considering that he makes out that he's an expert on all things footy.

Sampi is 178 cm and 94 kgs

Aussie is 182 cm and 78kgs

Same body shape??? Go figure.

Fwiw, I thought Sampi was ~95kgs now, not when he was playing.

If so, the comparison may be valid, considering that Sampi would have no doubt weight significantly less in his playing days.

Don't have much on the kid - but having a look at the Norwood website there a few Port players on their list, so hopefully Dean knows what he's doing. Might be one of the gems you get each year in the pres-season draft. He looks like he has some poise though!

well said demoneddy

you sound like you know a bit about the kid..... do u think he is capabale of steeping it up over the next 12 months...

and how would he and flash compliment eachother up forward??

i think we have a spot for him.. especially as yze is getting old, and it would be nice to push flash up the ground 2

the beauty of the pre season comp is it affords clubs the luxury of trying untried players. this keeps everyone happy. players ready to step up will be indentified. young players tend to burn out before seasons end, but this doesn`t mean that they are not playing senior footy until they do. other players constantly on fringe should be trying harder than normal. this waiting is killing me , unleash season 2008 and let the MIGHTY DEES unleash hell on 15 other clubs

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
