I think promo said he would be in the studio. Hope so as he was a team mate of Tim Watson & so may get some personal insights.

What time? was any given?

No time was stated but likely to be b/w 7.00 and 9.00. They usually have people in the studio middle of the later 2 hrs

Typically guests/coaches are in between 7.30-8am.

Don't expect much though. By the time they have the 7.30 news, ads, and mindless vaudaville crap, you'll get about 3 minutes of actual footy discussion. Thankfully Bailey isn't president of the coach's association unlike the former incumbent. You'd be lucky if you got 2 minutes about the Dees.

DB was very solid on SEN and covered the interview process and as commented on other posts "with a new coach and footy dept all the players will be selected on merit & need to earn selection."

Highlights included:

Steve Harris's wife's home baked date muffins were best part of first interview at Harris' house

In response to a call from MFC supporter said some very positive things about Yze's contribution during pre-season training (very encouraging).

Bill Brownless who had not met DB before was very impressed and observed that he knows the game backwards and will be a players coach.

DB said that he wont just use an Essendon or PT Adelaide game plan and that you have to put in place a game plan that suits the players you have (Sensational!). Noted that MFC players are very skilful!!

Conclusion - going back to a game style which utilises those skills!!!

Again everything DB has done so far is very encouraging

That's exactly what we got!

What I found more interesting was what Billy Brownless had to say about Russell Robertson earlier in the program. Apparently Robbo went around to Garry Lyon's place for some advice, after receiving a 3 year deal from the Bulldogs. Garry told him a few home truths of what he thought of him as a player and clubman, which led Robbo to accept the 2 year deal offered by us.

I had no idea that DB was going to be on SEN this morning. When I got into the car, I heard some guy, whose voice I knew that I knew, going on about the virtues of biomechanics and how all of the clubs were doing it and then describing how it was done at his club. I was impressed with the knowledge that the guy had about the subject and assumed that he was a biomechanist from some club. I got somewhat of a surprise when I realised that it was DB. I heard the first caller, but somehow missed the second, I heard what Billy said and was hoping he would be on after the news, but alas no.

What he said about the biomechanics was that all players had been examined and had their kicking, and I suppose, handballing, actions examined. The players where given videos of their kicking from both sides and behind and had them gone over with a view to discovering any biomechanical flaws. The players are the given one or two things to work on; they are able to get feedback from the biomechanist at any time. The inference was that, once the current problems were fixed, they would move on to the next couple and continue that process until completion, which may take some time. He stressed that it had to be kept simple saying that you can't give a player a hundred things to work on, just one or two at a time.

DB can certainly talk the talk, I can't wait for him to walk the walk.

Bodes well for a better Cameron Bruce, Nathan Jones and Clint Bartram.

I listened to most of it. It seriously reminded me of the scene in Wayne's World 2 when Wayne and Garth visit Handsome Dan for a radio interview about Waynestock.

It's 5 minutes past the big hour.

Right, Mr Scream?

Mr Scream: "haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ha haaa!!!!!"

his comments about how skills fail under pressure reminded me of round 1 last year - the ridiculous handballs to stationery targets, putting people under pressure and not being able to hit the side of a barn with a handful of rice...

it is easy to hit targets under no pressure - it is the skills under pressure that have to be up to it and unfortunately melbourne have failed miserably... to see someone stream out of defence but kick it over robbo's head, kick it to the feet of the leading full forward, etc, etc...

if this is hwere our improvement is to come, we should expect a good brand of footy... aggressive and skilful but at times a brand that has to be played....

His commitment would appear unquestionable, his hunger for the game and its history, and furthermore for the Melbourne Football Club....

also nathan thompson also talking up how good chris connolly was as a coach, a motivator and getting the best out of people....

it is exciting times ahead for the Melbourne Footy Club - yes, it is all talk but if we cant get excited now, well...

Its not just the pressure that is placed on MFC players but also the capacity of MFC players to exert sustained pressure on the opposition when we dont have possession.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
