Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

well this latest incident will have done no favours with West Coast and their culture. No doubt it would have had some effect on the Cotchin family, whether that be enough to influence West Coast to not draft this kid, i highly doubt it.

Still, one can dream

Fact of the matter is that the AFL might well see fit to dock the Eagles their #3 pick in the national Draft just to diffuse the situation with respect to Trent Cotchin. If they don't have the pick they can't draft him and that's as good a way as any to prevent any further controversy over the issue.

even if the afl choose to penalize WCE with draft penalties (1 in a million chance of that happening imo) then they will penalize westcoat's first round pick- pick 13.

they cannot penalize picks gained via the trade of players.

so best case scenario for us is that WestCoast lose pick 13, upgrading our pick14 to 13, which will hopefully ensire that Cyril Rioli or Alex Rance might still be available.

i still would not be surprised in westCoast went for local talent in Masten with pick 3, leaving Cotchin to 4.

but people should remember, that these predictions of players abilities do not difinitively suggest that one player is better that the other.

id love Cotchin, but there not really much evidence to suggest he will be a better midfielder than other equaly highly rated midfielder like Masten or Palmer.

picks 3,4 and 5 have often proved to be better players than pick1....what does that mean to us?...well it means that all the top picks are very highly rated, and until they are in the afl system there is no knowing who will turn out better

If they penalise WCE, I agree it will be pick 13.

But if the AFL had the balls they would slug them pick 3. What rule would stop the AFL acting in that way?

They are like most other sporting bodies in the world.

Don't have the balls to make the tough calls.

Nothing will happen to WCE, other than the delisting of Cousins.

Enough is enough. Surely the AFL must now step in. De-register Cousins and hit the WCE with a massive penalty. We know that money is no object for them. The only way to make them bled is to take draft picks away. I don't see why 3 should be off limits either. You lose Chris Judd for next to nothing, that is what happens when you allow players to get away with criminal activity without intervening. That is what you get for bringing this game into disrepute.

We copped Cousins pre-season, mid-season and now we are copping him post-season. When does it end?

Send a message to the competition and the football public that drugs and criminal activity will not be tolerated. Teach the youth of Australia that if you do the wrong thing you lose your dream of playing AFL football, and hand pick 3 to the MFC while your at it!

If we had the chance to pick up either Morton or Palmer, who would we prefer???

We need a quick mid-fielder, one that provides flair and is a match-winner. Something Palmer is in spades.

For me it's Palmer. If Cotchin is gone by pick 4 (no doubt he will be), then maybe the footy gods might shine on us, and let Rance slip though to pick 14.

If criminality is alleged then i do doubt whether WCE can be punished without an admission of guilt or an order of the Court. This means without an admission WCE could not be penalised picks until the 2008 draft if the Court were to make an adverse finding.

IMO if the worst happens then the AFL would have no option but to cancel picks as a lesson to clubs to ensure they know what is happening in their player groups and weed out problem players ASAP to ensure the ongoing safety of the kids coming thru. Surely these issues are far worse than salary CAP breaches for which a few clubs including ours have been dacked badly by the AFL in the past.

As much as I love to get pick 3, it's not going to happen.

First of all, West Coast can claim that they are absolutely not to blame in this incident. After all, it is the off season, Ben is not playing, and the club has no control of when he drives and what drugs he possesses with him at the time.

The AFL will find it very hard to lay the blame on West Coast, especially if/when the club sacks him. The fact that they've already cut Chick (the biggest evil cancer of them all IMO), will help their cause as well.

Secondly, with only a few weeks until the draft, I doubt very much that any decision will be made on time. If anything, the Eagles will be stripped of their picks for next year's draft.

However, there is a very good chance that, given the latest disgrace faced by the Eagles, that Cotchin and his family will speak to West Coast and declare in no uncertain terms that Trent refuses to play for them. Sure, that's draft tampering, but the Eagles won't dare say a thing given how much trouble they are already facing.

ICC. By far.

No way.

The last thing West Coast or the AFL needs is the parent of a future star making public claims that he does not want his child to be playing for the Eagles.

It's bad for the game, bad for the drafting system and a poor reflection of the club.

If Cotchin really doesn't want to go West, and you can completely understand why he wouldn't, I don't see how the AFL will let him go there against his will only to have another Judd story all over again.

If West Coast take a young WA boy as requested by the AFL, everyone is happy and the AFL gets to bury its head in the sand some more.

At this point, West Coast need to do exactly what they are told by the AFL. If they rock the boat any longer they'll fall in the water and be left to drown.

Kreuzer will go at 1, Cotchin at 2. Full stop

Surely Richmond would select Cale Morton at 2 considering they have successfully lured Mitch from WCE. We are still an outside chance for Cotchin but it remains unlikely. No doubt we will still pick up a good player.

Can a young player refuse to go to a particular club should they feel it will negatively affect their life in some way?

The thing thing that goes against the eagles is that they pushed very, very hard to have Cousins back playing, and alot of people were saying it was too soon.

Regardless it's definitely a worst case scenario for the AFL and it will be very interesting to see how they respond.

WCE and the AFL are very culpable in this whole tragic saga. WCE have played Cousins last year and this year knowing he was not right. There was no way he was rehabbed properly when he returned last year and WCE brought him back for their own ends.

I believe they will have no option but to cut Cousins. Chick is neither here nor there regarding Cousins. Chick's delisting cannot be tagged to the recent charges. If it is then WCE are going to have more blood on their hands in that they know about Cousins.

Given the seriousness of this situation WCE would not be so stupid and open themselves to further ridicule by blithely claiming it was the off season. They have a zero tolerance on this. As he has been charged then he has brought the game into disrepute.

The AFL will not strip picks off WCE this year or next if they cut Cousins. The AFL does not want to stir this up any further and taking draft picks only keeps the stench in the air from the AFL view.

I would also like to see the AFL/ WCE publicly accuse the Cotchin family of draft tampering and its impact on any family with a budding 16yo champion. Ludicrious suggestion at best.

I would suggest that the WCE and the AFL are deep in this. Its not been just a case of the WCE defying the AFL. The AFL will stage manage this with the result that Cousins is finally gone.

Such is life!

Surely if he is just the accused at this stage they wouldn't sack him. Isn't one innocent until proven guilty in Australia

I would suggest that even though he may not be proven guilty, that West Coast would of had enough of him getting himself into these sticky situations and dragging them through the mud with him. I think that, whatever the outcome of the charge, that he is gone.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
