The Casey boys are about to come out for their captain’s run but the above pic is of an umpire practicing umpiring. It’s like air-guitar only it’s umpiring. It’s the funniest thing I’ve seen at Gosch’s in a while. Dude is even blowing an imaginary whistle. 🤭

Bowser’s in great spirits. He said it feels so good to be in full training again. Looking at round 9. He’s the only one in a singlet and it’s really cold. He’s relishing being out there.

No, seriously umpiring an imaginary game. I kid you not. And he’s so good at it that I could kinda imagine the play unfolding before his (our) eyes.

It’s Nathan Williamson practicing paying free kicks against Melbourne

Edit post: You later said he was good at it. It’s definitely not Nathan Williamson then.

i hope yr giving it an occasional 'YOU'VE BEEN PAYING IT ALL DAY' and 'FREE KICK ESSENDON? WHAT WAS THAT FOR??!?' and then a big 'BBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL'

YAY! I just congratulated Reggie! The boys (Maxy in particular) loved seeing him smiling from ear to ear. I told Reg we’re all behind him and can’t wait to see him run out tomorrow.

Then Maxy told me Moose is on his way over and I need to hug him too. Max absolutely loves seeing his teammates get the love. I’ve noticed this over time.

I did indeed hug the big Moose, albeit around the hips, coz in the absence of a stepladder that’s about as high up as I can reach. 😂

Fritta was here for maybe 10 minutes. Didn’t put boots on nor training clothes. Looked downcast. Methinks a late late out might be in the offing

Is Cross out there and with which group? If he is right to play (which seems earlier than the injury list suggest) I would bring him in rather than another tall kin Kentfield or Henderson (who needs more exposed form).

Paddy was there with the Casey group. His bandaging has been reduced to just one bandage around his thumb. Hendo was also there but he came out with the second group. The groups overlapped though, so it’s not cut and dried.

And he got that imaginary free kick wrong.

And giving imaginary free kicks! Just like match day!

Big Moose… a 204cm walking tower of happiness, radiating pride and enthusiasm. So wholesome.

I asked him how often he gets asked “How’s the weather up there?” He said he gets it a lot. He said his usual answer is “It’s pretty cool knowing it’s raining before everyone else does.”

I like the cut of Moose’s jib.

Or they’re just managing his load through recovery

Perhaps. But from the outset they’ve said it’s a week-to-week thing and it’s sometimes not decided on until as late as gameday.

He went to pay a "Kicking in Danger" and ended up kicking himself in the ankle requiring a full reconstruction!

The entire group, incluidng emergencies present after the Casey boys. Just noted that the 6 defenders chatting together with Jared Rivers included Ed Langdon (maybe he gets a role on Zac Bailey). I am also worried about Fritta - maybe Cross or Hendo comes in for him (I reckon Cross has more tools than Hendo) - Kentfield would make us too tall (and not enough run for our game plan).

Noted that Fritsch started well against the Bombers but then faded - if he is playing through pain, maybe better to give him a week off - particularly going into a 5 day break. Noted that AJ is injured and will not be playing at Casey tomorrow.

Btw Picket, can you tell Jeffo to play mean and aggressively.

He needs to assert himself at some stage, to be a regular player.

Um not my job or volition, to be telling him anything!

I thought about that for awhile.

Makes you wonder if that’s what they’re doing during the games?

Some of the decisions surre don’t bear any resemblance to the actual game in progress

He was out there on his own. He was in his own world, totally immersed in the “match” and I don’t think he knew anyone was watching him. You could even tell when “play” was a distance away from him since he moved his head as if to see around players who were blocking his view. It was bizarre and I couldn’t look away 😅

He might’ve been handing it on to the other umpires down field.

Thanks Ghostwriter, Harvey Wallbanger all posters and special comments and of course the sole umpire playing out his role with his phantom teams. A lot of changes this week and Fritta still an unknown for tomorrow.

Certainly can’t get Bowser back soon enough. Sorely missed.

Interesting to see Paddy listed as injured, and in the full list as an emergency. If Frittata misses will it be him, or Luker (who seems unlikely given that 🫎 is named.

Wouldn't surprise if Kent comes in for Fritta.

The bloke's a natural forward with all the marking tricks and mostly a great set shot.

Aside from a pretty big question mark over his fitness I have him ahead of Jeffo at this point in terms of potential lethality at AFL level including defensive intensity.

In an ideal world the brains trust would want to get a few more miles under his belt at Casey but tough calls are often needed 'in-season' once the injuries hit home.
