Darcy Wilson / St Kilda - their first pick in 2023 drsft at pick 18.

We chose the Kolt ahead of him.

Yeah, still to this day the Kolt decision was rather odd, including trading up to get him.

Would love Jed Walter, but we’d be at the back of the queue one would suspect.

Why back of the queue?

I don’t think we are a club in a bad position like Richmond.

I’d argue right now the only thing we don’t have is a stable environment such as Caulfield.

If available the filth will be all over him like a rash. No doubt Richmond would throw their hat in the ring, so too Blues and probably Hawks, Essendon etc.

sadly we can’t compete with the big clubs.

@Demon Disciple yes we cannot throw big $$$ at others, especially when we have $700,000-850,000 a year being spent on a bloke for the next 5 years to play for the Giants.

I also think (not fully confirmed) that we are potentially still paying some of Angus Brayshaws contract and the Geelong football administration (sorry AFL) ruled we had to include it in our salary cap.

They’re going hard for Ben King but if he doesn’t leave then Jed Walter will be a target for sure.

It's not the right time to be targetting key player moves. It's going to take at least another 2 years to get a complete understanding of what this current list can do. From there we can see what pieces we need.

Some team’s going to look like an absolute genius or an absolute fool offering Jed Walter a million a season over six years because he could turn into an absolute star or an absolute bust, not sure if I want that to be us or not. Need an extended look at Jefferson and Kentfield before I make that call

Was waiting for someone to mention Walter. He would be my number one target.

If we've got enough to target Butters (not going to happen now, but we were trying), then we've got enough to target Walter, or others.

That’s a good point.

I do think though that it’s something we should gamble on, either a big key forward or nasty midfielder like a Butters.

Let’s say for example that out of our forwards, only Luker turns good (which I think he will be the only big that does go well), at least we have two big key forwards if we got Walter.

If we got Butters however unlikely, it would be him and Kozzie we make our list around.

If the stars aligned and we could have who we wanted, would you still pass up on a big name/player even though we may not know where our lists falls?

I wouldn’t.

- Cal provides his "destination club ladder" based on factors such as list profile, current ladder position, club size, cap space, and how active they are in the market

- Tier 1: Brisbane, Hawthorn

- Tier 2: Geelong, Sydney, Western Bulldogs

- Tier 3: Collingwood, Gold Coast

- Tier 4: Adelaide, Fremantle

- Tier 5: St Kilda, Melbourne, Richmond

- Tier 6: GWS, Port Adelaide, West Coast, North Melbourne, Essendon, Carlton

- The Gettable or Not Gettable gong returns

- Jed Walter is very Gettable amongst clubs like West Coast and Essendon

- Lachie Neale is expected to be chased by Adelaide, Victorian and West Australian clubs, and is likely out the door

- North Melbourne has started contract extension talks with Cooper Trembath

- Bodhi Uwland is set to sign a 4 year extension at Gold Coast to 2030

- Mitch Lewis is "still gettable" depending on what Hawthorn's forward line looks like the rest of the year

- Darcy Wilson is very Gettable, with a lot of Victorian clubs chasing him

- Hawthorn, Carlton, Melbourne and Collingwood will all chase Bailey Humphrey (GC) again this year

- Richmond is definitely not the only club that can go above $2mil for Zak Butters

- Reilley O'Brien (ADE) is definitely Gettable despite having 2 years left on his contract

- Victorian clubs will also be keen to chase Mitch Georgiades as well as the WA clubs, free agent next year

- Elijah Tsatas (ESS) and Alex Davies (GC), Tobie Travaglia (STK) are three more out of contract fringe players that are Gettable

- Beau McCreery (COL) is due for a big pay day next year, potentially around $1 mil a year

- Cody Walker (CAR F/S), Noah Williams, Kodah Edwards, Tanner Armstrong (RIC NGA), Wil Malady and Harry Van Hattum were the best for the Under 18s Australian side against North Melbourne VFL on the weekend

- Western Bulldogs NGA prospect Khaled El Souki has also shot into Top 20 calculations, however the Bulldogs may not have the picks to match a bid for him

Travalgia isn't OOC til 2027, has he been Ross Ball'd

Anyone know anything about Bailey McDonald from the Hawks?

Apparently a fridge defender struggling to break through onto their list.

Would certainly assist with our defensive struggles.

Sadly I don't think Jed Adams will be with us in 2027.

So we will definitely need another key defensive pillar, unless once the dust settles with the ruck and forward line, Petty can settle back there alongside Turner

Interesting that they are looking ar converting Onley, who is not small, so this could be forward planning.

Ricky Mentha just needs another pre season under his belt, same with Oscar Berry, interesting that they stripped 8kgs of him, AMW hopefully gets another year. Salem will still be there. X Taylor, the other X.

If we get the forward line clicking, Mihocek is an alternative next year.

Totally agree, but as we've seen with Steele we should still be targeting quality depth/coverage while the young kids come through. Thinking getting one more - the likes of George Hewitt, Alex Davies, Mitch Knevitt etc. in the mids, those that can protect but not be true in and unders like Steele/Viney are, we don't need a lot more, the high draft pick kids like Langford, Lindsay, Kolt and Windsor need to be continually exposed as well.

I think he is a gun, but unfortunately he has had too many concussions and injuries for that coin.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
